Bengals want Burfict to apologize for camera incident

The Bengals have the weekend off, but the team has a task for linebacker Vontaze Burfict to handle Friday.

Apologize for grabbing a camera and throwing it to the ground during Thursday night’s win over the Browns.

Friday, Bengals coach Marvin Lewis told reporters that the team wants Burfict to reach out to the camera operator whose camera and support took a tumble after Burfict chased a play to the sideline. Burfict grabbed the camera and pushed it to the ground.

A 2013 Pro Bowler, Burfict went undrafted in 2012 due to concerns about Burfict’s temper and off-field activities. He’s generally stayed out of the headlines and returned last week for the first time in more than a year after knee issues.

Burfict limped off in the second quarter and had his surgically repaired left knee examined on the sidelined, but he returned to the game.

  1. The Bengals should demand an apology since they are, you know, his employer. If he was a mature, sane adult he would apologize on this own. He’s none of the above.

  2. NO big deal, for one he’s football player so that means he’s a A hole, 2 I don’t blame players in any sport for kicking over crap that’s in the way on the sidelines, seen to many players get hurt because of the clutter on the sidelines….

  3. He shouldn’t have knocked it over but Reggie Nelson almost ran into it so I guess he was making a statement that it shouldn’t be there. I guess everytime Burfict bumps into someone on the street we will hear about it now. All because of a LEGAL hit on Bell.

  4. I could understand if it was an accident, but it was clearly an intent to shove the camera down. The camera guy was hit in the face by the camera also.

These NFL guys know they make so much money because the camera guys are part of the machine that keeps the public interested in them, right?

Burfict is an Ahole. It’s well known. Apologies aren’t going to change the man.

  5. So every player that runs into a camera man on the sidelines and knocks them/the camera down has to apologize to them now?

The hit was legal………the reaction afterwards was ridiculous. Did you even hear his response to the media when they asked him why he was celebrating? He said that he was not celebrating but was horrified to hear Bell’s knee “pop” so he ran away but did not know Bell was hurt. Punk.

He heard a pop. He didn’t know it was Bell’s knee. He just came back from major knee surgery. He probably ran on it to see if it was okay. I hear no outrage about Mike Mitchelle’s celebation over Marvin Jones or telling AJ Green “You’re next.”

  8. “So every player that runs into a camera man on the sidelines and knocks them/the camera down has to apologize to them now?”

He didn’t just run into someone as the random result of a play. He intentionally reached out and trashed the camera.

So yes, he should apologize. And in the world of Roger Goodell’s NFL and its reliance on TV money expect at least a 50k fine.

  9. “Burfict, do what the Pats haters would do. Repeatedly make things up and act like they’re fact”

There, fixed your statement for you.

  10. Watched this idiot lose games while he was at ASU due to all his personal fouls… allowed teams to just march down the field as he continually would hit guys out of bounds.
    #cheapshotartist

  11. I’m laughing at everyone trashing him. You keep pretending that your team doesn’t have a couple of guys a lot like him… only not nearly as good.

  12. Went undrafted but wasn’t in the Limelight….
    BECAUSE HE WASN’T Playing!
THIS is a perfect reason the NFL needs an Eligibility
Clause that automatically keeps people with Criminal records OUT of it!
But then, once certain group of People, with 86% of the NFL Arrests, Suspension for Drugs and Domestic Violence, would call it Racist!
But my Son just might a real hero in Sports again
    Black OR White!

  13. Yes he should apologize and then some. Vontaze is a child and definitely needs to be contained. But he’s a wild animal on the field with an incredible football IQ and given a choice between him or some turd like Hardy I’ll take him every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Good player but this guy is a punk.
    _____________
Yes and no. Considering that concerns about his attitude dropped a top ten talent completely out of the draft, I feel like he’s been keeping himself under control pretty well over the last couple years. He may be a punk, but considering what a punk he was expected to be, it seems like he’s done a good job keeping himself in check. Props on that. Always good to see a player at least try to rehabilitate himself.

Not at all a Bengals fan by the way, just someone who watched the game.

  15. Geesh! The cameramen get run over on the sidelines ALL the time! The only reason this situation is a big deal is because it’s Burfict!!! If they wanna be there to get the really good pics of the players and the game they should be considered part of the game! Also, can we please stop commenting on the Burfict hit that Bell was injured on?! It was a legal hit and he did not celebrate after the fact!!! The only thing I saw on CBS after that hit was Bell being attended to! I recorded that game so I went back and watched it…twice! Also, Mitchell did not celebrate the hit he laid on Marvin Jones…he was fired up about a good hard LEGAL hit! People…get over it and let’s move on!!!

Oh, he was making a statement, that’s what he was doing. Well then never mind. Most of us viewed that as an example of the loose cannon Delta Bravo behavior that he so often indulged in while he was at ASU that kept him from being drafted. Thanks for clearing that up

  17. you know what’s hilarious, how certain media sites love to stir up this kind of unimportant stuff but completely disregard a threat of merder- guess it’s all who you play for.

  18. Dumb move by Burfict; dumber move by Lewis. Handle this stuff internally. Tell Burfict to apologize and then do not mention it to reporters unless he complains to them. What Lewis did is try to shame Burfict in the media. Weak.

A loser supporting a loser how quaint.

  20. Real time I thought he intentionally pushed it over last night. That slowed down replay shows as much.

Not cool but I also thought, why is the camera so close to the end zone? The lenses and zoom with technology today there is no need for him to be positioned right there.

  21. Oh my gosh, all that crying over that. He knocked over the camera what a meanie!
That is also slowed down footage. At real speed the contact with the camera looked a lot more accidental.
And all you Pittsburgh fans…. Boo Hoo! I am shocked any of you are crying about Burfict’s hits. Have you watched your own team play defense in the past 2 decades?

  22. My view on this was “way to go”. Camera was too close; I just thought he used the energy to move the camera before it “moved” him.

  23. Now, if he’ll just beat up his wife/girlfriend like Hardy with the Cowgirls did, he’ll be the leader of the Bengals.

  24. Hollywood already did this script – The Fortune Cookie, with Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon way back in 1966. Much better story line, the football player was actually likable…

  25. I think it’s pretty hard to defend his behavior. Dude has anger control issues, at the very least.

  26. C’mon, it was a camera. Not like it was anything you wouldn’t expect to get broken, like a punter’s jaw!

  27. Some of you people need to lay off the booze or get glasses. He clearly pushed the camera over intentionally after his momentum had already stopped.

  28. bigbenschancre, not just punters, don’t forget what Ward did to LB Rivers. I guess if you mess with the bull …

  29. As a Bengals fan, I love the way he plays. I saw this happen live last night and couldn’t understand it. He’s young, and the Bengals have been pretty good the last few years at getting troubled player’s heads right.
