Jerry Jones on Hardy victim photos: “We have given Greg a second chance”

AP

The Cowboys have spoken, and the short version is, they’re sticking with Greg Hardy.

In the wake of today’s publication of photos of the injuries suffered by Hardy’s ex-girlfriend, the Cowboys put out a statement tonight offering their support of the defensive end.

“While we did not have access to the photos that became public today, we were and are aware of the serious nature of this incident,” owner Jerry Jones said in a statement. “We as an organization take very this seriously. We do not condone domestic violence. We entered into the agreement with Greg fully understanding that there would be scrutiny and criticism.

“We have given Greg a second chance. He is a member of our team and someone who is grateful for the opportunity he has been given to move forward with his life and his career.”

That chance comes because Hardy is good at sacking quarterbacks. The Cowboys knew that, as well as they knew about the domestic violence charges that led to his being placed on the commissioner’s exempt list last year and suspended for 10 games this year (which was shortened to four).

And they didn’t need to see the photos that were released today to know what they must have looked like.

  1. The only reason you gave him a ‘second’ chance is that he can rush the passer. Jerry domestic abuse is way more important than sacks. You and any Cowboy fans that support this are pathetic.

  2. And look no further than his interaction with the special teams coach and Dez Bryant to verify the sincere appreciation he feels for his “second chance” opportunity.
Hey, Jeruh…after he punches out one of you coaches/players, the word you want to use is “oooops!”

  3. Did anyone think the pictures were going to be any better?

Not sure why the sudden outrage, given the way this guy has acted after, and now on the team. He’s a nut job.

Shame on the NFL, but maybe moreso the NFLPA for appealing.

  4. They knew he was a piece of garbage when they signed him. They basically have said they don’t care, and they don’t care what you think of it. Roger only slapped him with 10 games, and then their cronie arbitrator (who had seen the pictures) knocked it back to 4. The NFL doesn’t give a single care about women, domestic violence, violence in general, or anything else, as long as the checks from advertisers and networks keep coming. But hey, remember! Only 11 more months until all gear is pink again! That means they care about women! Ignore the trail of broken bones, and murdered wives/girlfriends in their wake.

  5. Pathetic. Even the most die hard Cowboys fans should be embarrassed and appalled. Only Jerry Jones would stoop this low, but it seems very probable that his collection of miscreants will implode and cripple the organization.

  6. Photos or it didn’t happen is a phrase said in jest Jerry.

Maybe you should give a crap about women. If this victim was your daughter or granddaughter Hardy would be erased from the NFL history books.

Scum. So is the woman beater you signed.

  7. He served a suspension, and wasn’t convicted of a crime (because of the settlement)

Sorry but what else are the cowboys to do? release him? No one can resign him because of this? NFL career over while not even being convicted?

Athletes aren’t role models, get over it.

If all the stories of every major league athlete got out there would be no one left to play!

If he does it again, get rid of him, but JJ is right about the second chance.

Social justice warriors unite! Get the pitch forks!

  8. What an absolute disgrace. The least he could do is be honest and say they’re not ditching Hardy just because he’s good. They’d dump Hardy in two seconds of he was a marginal player. Who is he kidding with this second chance garbage? This is not that kind of situation. He bought off his victim after almost killing her. He should be in jail, not on the field and certainly not being paid millions of dollars. It takes a disgusting coward to hit a woman. Let’s hope he gets sorted out by opposing players on the field

  9. This is a good enough answer. Most of you will have to live with it whether he is right or wrong.

Patsies will have to grasp with the reality that this really has nothing to do with Goodell, which may prove even more difficult.

  10. Jerry doesnt get it, this isnt about second chances, by saying Greg Hardy is a member of your team, you’re saying you condone acts of violence against women. In the real world companies usually distance themselves from employee who gets a D.U.I .. in Jerry world, the Cowboys emphatically embrace employees who kill their fellow teammates or beat women. Its not like Hardy is a QB.. How many games has Hardy won for them, even the best DEs arent worth an average QB.. Cowboys losing on and off the field.

  11. Translation ? “We care about winning, not about how our players may act out violently against women”

What is jerry going to say when Greg Hardy kills his next girlfriend? “We are waiting until Greg gets out of prison, and if he can still play, we will be giving him a third chance”.

If the NFL knew the severity of the violence, why did they let Hardy back in the league? Between Hardy and Peterson, there is a trend. If you can play at high level, you can get away with anything. Fine example.

  12. There are 2nd chances, then there is giving an unremorseful man the opportunities of your community, and privilege to continue his sick lifestyle uncontested

  13. Well when your an old man feeling up young girls in a public bathroom (where there is also photo evidence) you might tend to take lightly other people’s demons.

  14. Fearless leader Roger Goodell could have appealed the ruling that knocked Hardys suspension from 10 to four games. Instead he stacks the deck against Brady, spends millions in court, loses badly and appeals that decision spending millions more. Guess he figures domestic violence isn’t that big of an issue.

  15. Jerry jones you are a bum with no scruples

Too bad you can’t set a positive example for your team and fans.
Children have better sense than you

  16. Those photos were pretty bad, but can she explain why she took the money instead of getting him prosecuted. It just doesn’t make sense.

  17. It’s time for Jerry Jones to sign Ray Rice, do the Randy Moss fake mooning at lambeu move, and let us watch PC taking heads like Joe Buck explode like the Fembots in Austin Powers.

  18. Jerry would rather win football games than stand up against woman beaters. I feel sorry for the nice guys who play for the Cowboys, but I hope they go down in flames.

  19. At this point, Jerry Jones reminds me of the rich corrupt guy from the movie Roadhouse.

And Roger Goodell is the fat stupid bouncer. Ha ha.

I’m waiting for Patrick Swayze to start kicking some butt!

  20. You think Jerry would still have signed Hardy if this was done to his daughter? Jerry would sell his soul to the Devil to win 1 Super Bowl that wasn’t tied to Jimmy Johnson. How bout them Cowboys!

  21. Well worded statement. I know most people want everyone banned from the NFL for life for all their wrongdoings.

I have zero problems with Jerrys statement or letting Hardy play. Football is a violent game. These players arent angels.

  22. This man should be in prison. If he deserves a second chance, it’s only after he’d been released.

    What a joke.

  23. What a sickening owner. All in the name of winning. If the NFL doesn’t come down hard on Jones and Hardy, than they are as culpable as both these cretins in Dallas. The NFL is on the brink.

  24. His second chance was being allowed to remain a member of free society.

You’re just enabling him and giving him millions of dollars on top of it.

    $&#@ you Jerry.

  25. But Joseph Randle hasn’t been investigated yet but they’ll release him because “it’s in the best interest of the Cowboys.”

Get real Jerry. He’s on your team because you’re desperate to find some sort of way to keep your team in the race. If you had any shred of dignity, you’d cut him as fast as you did Randle. You’re pathetic.

  26. Whatever a***hole. As long as he’s on your roster, as far as I’m concern you’re directly funding domestic abuse

  27. The only second chance Hardy is getting is to make more money before he beats up his next girlfriend.

  28. Wow. I have lost all respect for the Dallas organization. Miami fired a pro bowl guard ..Incognito for being mean to a 300 pound football player. Hardy beat the snot out of a woman and they are keeping him. Every woman in Dallas should boycott home games until he is no longer a Cowboy. Shame on you Jerry Jones.

  29. I’m sure you told Mr. Goodell and the NFL fans fronting your stadiums at the expense of social programs that. We’re all glad you’re willing to use public funds to provide millions to perps in the form of your second chances.

  30. “We have given Greg a second chance” loosely translates to “I’ll endure public outcry, this guy’s attitude, and all the PR issues that follow ‘cuz that man can tackle”

  31. Weak Jerry Very Weak !!! That’s Someone’s Daughter Who Was Beaten Like That !!! U R Showing Absolutely No Regard 4 The Victim Just As Greg Hardy Has Shown No Remorse For The Beating He Gave 2 Someone’s Daughter !!! Well Done Jerry Well Done !!!

  32. Spoken like a true billionaire. Never having to admit you were wrong. This is pure greed and desperation in its worst form. Other than his O line he knows he’s got 1 more year w/Romo, 2 at best and after that it’s rebuild time. I guess I’d hate to have billionaire problems…yah right!

  33. no super bowl in 20 years, not even an appearance in a conference championship game. as a cowboys fan since a 9-year-old in 1975, i’m really getting tired of the jones regime. the time for new ownership is way overdue.

  34. Why shouldnt people get a second chance? Our society is built on second chances. People had no problem with Don King promoting fights and i think he was convicted of murder.

  35. Look. I’ve dated a couple violent girls, girls who hit me when intoxicated coming from the club. Like, full on closed fist. I’m a tall, pretty athletic guy. Never have I once even considered hitting a woman back. And this is in context of direct retribution to physical violence and domestic abuse(which does go Female to Male as well BTW). I could have easily overpowered them and kicked their butts, but I didn’t. Because I am a real man.

This kindergarten equality movement is pure nonsense. Some people are much, much better than others. For example, myself, and likely everyone who reads this message is much, much better at being a human being than Greg Hardy.

    That dude is the worst.

  36. This isn’t the perfect answer but it is good enough. I think this will pass eventually.
What will be much more difficult for Pats fans is grappling with the reality that this really isn’t about Goodell and he didn’t do any thing wrong here.

  37. Not sure if Jerry has a daughter, but if he did and Hardy did that to her, would be still be so inclined to give him a second chance?

    I think not.

  39. I guess you’re likely very much like those you surround yourself with right Jerry? Does that make you hmmm strong? or a creep?

  40. who cares? hardy is paid to sack the qb, what he does in his private life is nobody’s business. I’m sick and tired of these morality police white people trying to assasinate the character of young blacks, especially young blacks with money. I’m not a perfect person but I don’t pretend to be holier than thou like all these ESPN aka BSPN racist white media hacks. boom.

  42. The NFL is not the National Fighter League, it’s also not a therapy or reintegration program… it’s entertainment and a job. Clearly a person who so obviously and visibly represents this franchise has no business doing his “rehab” getting money to do it! That comes later or never!

    _______

This has nothing to do with the Patriots… that said, you’re right that Goodell actually went through (close to) proper procedures with Hardy. The arbitrator in this case reduced the suspension. The Brady case should have been dropped before it ever got to the suspension stage. If the NFL handled it properly, they would have saved a lot of money and embarrassment.

Also the Patriots are not ones to hold onto bad apples.

  44. I bet the Cowboy players love having this POS on their team. They probably would not say anything against him for fear of what the lunatic might do!

  45. Why not the outrage prior to the pictures? Everyone knew what he did. You needed pictures to be outraged? So if someone murders someone you need pictures to blow your lid?

  46. Jones only cares about winning. Too bad Romo or Whitten don’t speak up. Maybe Jerry would listen. Don’t know how those guys look their mothers, wives and daughters in the eye

  47. If you’re a Cowboys fan that’s fine and good but there’s no way you can be proud of that owner if you have a shred of decency. How emberrassing to have that low life as the face of your favorite team.

  48. Despicable. All of those women cowboys fans out there should trash their jerseys and t-shirts. Clearly, Jerry Jones doesn’t care about women and values a guy who beats women to the point that they fear for their lives more.

His mom and every female in his family should be embarrassed. He’s a turd.

    America’s Turd

  49. Sounds like when we burned witches at the stake up in here! I’ve been beat up worse than that, wouldn’t want anyone to be barred from employment for life as a result!

  50. First of all, thank you to everyone who has written a post showing how utterly pathetic Jerry is for saying what he did. A man who lost his job and robs a store and takes only money, or is behind on his bills is someone who deserves a second chance. Assault and/or attempted murder normally lands a man in jail–and should. I never thought I’d hate the dirty Dallas team more than I did this morning. After this statement by Jerry, I see that it is possible.

    ——————————————————————————–

True. I know there’ll be some who’d be somewhat surprised if Jerry actually comes out and says that the Cowboys, as an organization, are keeping Hardy on the team because of what he brings onto the field and, obviously, despite of his off the field issues. But, and, at this point, he himself have to realize people aren’t dumb and already know how he operates.

  52. Hardy was found not guilty. The victim refused to testify. The DA can use the victims past testimony at the appeal hearing but they decided not to because in her 2 statements and testimony at trial she was
inconsistent. In other words she wasn’t credible enough. So Hardy
    is legally innocent.
People also need to know that within a couple of weeks of the alleged incident Hardy and the victim were at a club….she was using Coke and drinking with a friend and got loud and out of hand …Hardy tried to leave. The victim pulled her car behind Hardy’s car ..got out of car
and began to kick his door. Only after security was called did she leave.
They both are responsible. She decided to put the incident behind her and accept a civil settlement. She could have testified and still sought and most likely would have received a settlement. But she did
not choose to testify at the criminal trial. Perhaps she was worried about her inconsistent statements and past behavior.
She has moved on…why can’t Hardy move on. He was not convicted.
He sat out a year then was suspended …..he lost a lot of money.
    Why can’t he move on.
In my experience everyone wants mandatory sentencing …severe
punishment for convicted persons…until it’s their son…nephew etc.
People don’t get it Hardy was not convicted.
If he does something like this again I believe if he is convicted he should be banned for life. But until he has been convicted whether you like it or not…he must be treated as if he has no record.

  53. If Goodell spent as much time worrying about ridding the league of scumbags like this as he does trying to save face in the Deflategate fiasco, the NFL would be significantly improved.

  54. Hardy must be very sorry and held himself accountable for his actions for the great, all knowing, and powerful Jerrah to give him a second chance.

    Hardy earned it, right?

  55. It is a shame but Hardy is bi-polar ( see his combine coverage and his q&a with 31 of the 32 teams). They all knew he had problems…see Dexter McCluster and his greg Hardy incident. This guy is a time bomb and he will go off.

    ———————————————————————————-

Don’t really care for Jerry and his organization nor his view on domestic violence but I do give a damn about social issues especially those that affect women’s safety. And yes, football is a violent game and, as far as I know, none of us on this earth, are worthy to be considered angels. But, unlike Mr. Hardy, majority of football players leave the violence on the football field and don’t take it home.

  57. Jerry Jones is good at making money. If he thought this kind of publicity would hurt him financially, he’d cut Hardy in a second. But Jerry’s business is in the State of Texas. Texans have a different view of the world than most people on this earth, and they’re darn proud of it. I mean, c’mon guys, it was just a woman.

  58. The real source of all your angst: you don’t like the Cowboys.

Where was the outrage when the Steelers welcomed back Big Ben after his suspension for allegedly RAPING women? Him and Mike Vick get 2nd chances but Hardy doesn’t?

America’s Team, peasants. Most valuable sports franchise in the WORLD.

Bow down and kiss each every one of our 5 rings. Just know that your crappy, irrelevant, POS team will NEVER be on our level.

  59. Ha ha, NFL just spent a month and a fortune catering to women and the Cowboys kill it all in one swoop by not only signing him in the first place, calling him a leader, and finally not dropping him immediately once these pictures surfaced. Um, by the way, nobody has to give anybody a second chance. You reap what you sow.

  60. The real source of all your angst: you don’t like the Cowboys.

  61. “We do not condone domestic violence “….
REALLY? You made this statement as part of
your announcement ? As opposed to you condone
domestic violence? I mean, you had to say
you don’t condone it? Wow, impressive organization.
I hope you lose 100 straight games

  62. I don’t have to care, or try to buy into (or swallow) this “he said he was sorry, he won’t do it again” kind of BS I’m sure Jerry accepted from Hardy and now seeks to impress the rest of us with. No, not me; not that gullible nor so desperate, Jerry. Its the other, real men in that locker room that you are telling they have to deal with it. And their coaches. And former players whose names will forever be associated with the team. And the fans…and their wives, and mothers and girlfriends. Think about that, Jerry. What you do in the next few days can not be undone, nor just swept under the rug and forgotten.

  63. Lets see if ANY of the Players or Coaches have any Moral Integrity and will make a stand……..betting none will say anything…..no ballls!

  64. Who cares what they do on their personal lives. I come from Kazakhstan. Those pictures are memories of what I saw every day. Those were good days. Let’s take a step back and enjoy the game, hardy is a great player and fun to watch. Go Cowboys

  65. What Greg did still isn’t as bad as what Ray Lewis did.. And he’s most likely going to the hall of fame. Long story short, it doesn’t matter what you do. As long as you’re good at football you will always get a second chance. Don’t like it? Don’t watch. There’s nothing you can do about it and your opinions don’t matter. I will continue to watch because football is great.

  66. United Way, Red Cross, Wal Mart , etc etc in American business’ employ CONVICTED felons of assult. So if Cowboys are “condoning” the act by employing him as a player does this mean so does any other business in America?

  67. I’m not aware of all the intricate details of this case, but I did notice the mass hysteria today, and the avalanche of white knights claiming justice for the damsel in distress. It made me wonder why this woman had raken up with Hardy in the first place. I think we’ve all seen enough to know there is something amiss with him. I am wondering why she hitched her wagon to him in the first place. I have seen too many times a woman make a claim like this knowing full well the backlash against the accused, and support for her, would be automatic and unquestioned. I have even seen women injure themselves to bolster their claims. I don’t claim to know what goes on inside the head of a person that does that. Regardless, I also heard that he was on the phone with 911 claiming she was assaulting HIM, and there was another witness there. Granted, I get that he is much bigger than her yada yada yada, but it’s an equalist society we live in and you can’t have it both ways. I’m not saying he is innocent or she is guilty. I’m just open to another angle on this based on what I have seen in the past. The idea that you don’t ever question a woman’s claims is dangerous, regardless of what the feminazi’s say. Having said all that I think Hardy is an absolute moron perfectly capable of doing what they say he did. I question HER moral character for not testifying and taking cash, which leads me to believe that may have been part of her motivation to be involved in the first place.

    ———————–
Because after all the hassle she’d have had to endure, he’d have got a light sentence, possibly just some anti-abuse program in return for a suspended sentence, and he would still get a job with Jerrah! Whereas she’d have had further, probably unwanted, public attention, possible threats & media circus. At least she gets a quick-out and something out of it by taking the cash. Doesn’t help the next victim though.

Perhaps the next house that Jerrah builds can be a huge shelter for abuse victims. Dallas will certainly need it.

  69. Rae Carruth had the prison warden send a tape from the yard in to Jerry weeks ago when Dez went down but even a man like Jerry has to draw the line somewhere.

One word to describe the Cowboys and their fans: classless

    ———————————————

I’m sure the majority of Cowboy fans and their players are disgusted by Greg Hardy. Jerry Jones is to be blamed for this.

  71. Where’s that asterisk douche nozzle who think Brady’s “crime” (which never happened) was worse than Greg Hardy. Someone needs to out an asterisk next to your entire life, punk!

  72. Here’s the problem, Jerry.

What you know about Hardy? What you have seen and heard so far?

Probably the tip of the iceberg.

Violent men, especially those who have been violent to women, don’t suddenly start this behavior one day out of the blue. This incident, these pictures? They are just the first that has been discovered.

There’s more, much more. There always is in these cases.

And when more victims come out of the woodwork, what then?

The Cowboys just passed on their one good chance to get themselves out of this mess.

Mark my words, they will live to regret their decisions this day.

  73. If the NFL saw this they should have let this out when it was there not wait for someone else to do it. Look there are questionable guys on every team I mean not going to say guys like Adam Jones and Burfict are perfect angels but people that hit women have no place in this league. Hardy obviously showed he hasn’t learned anything when he had that outburst at Dez and a Dallas coach. Dude is a meathead. I will give the Ravens credit at least they acted when the Ray Rice saga went down.

  74. It’s crazy how a lot of us will throw criticism to certain people because of their skin color and or he organization that Hardy plays for like this example before our eyes. First off, domestic violence is bad whether it’s a man or woman whom is getting abused in the situation. It’s funny though how Jonny Manziel’s situation is not being broadcast how Ray Rice or Greg Hardy’s domestic violence cases are being broadcast. Why’s that? Is it because we haven’t seen video or pictures? I’ve reporters to analyst to reading columns saying the Cowboys didn’t need photos to know what Hardy did. So why is nobody saying that about Manziel? Race plays a big part in why Hardy is getting all the hate whether people are want to believe it or not instead of the hate coming from him putting his hands on a woman. Who he plays for being the Dallas Cowboys and Jerry Jones is second behind his race instead of him putting his hands on a woman. But this is the question that everybody in America to everybody who has anything negative to say about Greg Hardy…… Why is Greg Hardy playing for the Cowboys instead of wearing a orange jail suit right now? If you don’t know that answer then it’s clearly something wrong with you. MONEY!!!!!! Greg Hardy plays for the Cowboys because Jerry Jones is a business man for one and he wants a Super Bowl really bad but before y’all keep knocking Jerry Jones for what he did in signing Hardy take a deep look at Hardy’s ex-girlfriend. She took the money that they offered her to not cooperate with case. Meaning she could’ve easily testified and had Hardy locked up for a very long time ending his football career. Ask yourself why didn’t she do that……. Ding ding ding……. MONEY!!!!!

  75. I am waiting for Daz Bryant and great party you get in a blowout fight on the sidelines

  76. That’s it… I’ve had enough of the National Felons League… I cannot in good conscience watch these pieces of human refuse and, at the same time, look at my wife and kids with a straight face. Enough is enough.

  77. Jones is a phony little weasel. He’d sign Charles Manson if Manson could help him win football games.
Let’s not forget the Cowboys have had a history of bad guys since Jones bought the team.

  78. Get out your feelings people. Y’all boycotting Michael Irvin for nearly killing Everett Mckiver? It’s not pretty but how many teams are loaded with saints?

  79. As a father of two daughters aged 8,4, and husband to a woman who’s dad used to do this to her, I can’t tell you how angry this makes me.

  80. Jerry is an ego maniac who is desperate to step out of Jimmy Johnson’s shadow. Current and former Cowboy greats along with sponsors such as AT&T, Pepsi and American Airlines should speak up.

  82. He gave the guy a second chance period. He’s not going to go back on his word. If Hardy gets in trouble again, he will cut him like he did Pac Man jones.

  83. Or, Jones knew this stuff already, and now you (us) readers are finally seeing it.

Do you really think that US, the FANS, really are seeing these photos before Jerry Jones?

Jones knows all about this already. Its called being prepared before the outcome.

Stop the whole, “OMG, Jones exploited,” propaganda. Just understand that this is much more important than air deflated out of a football…..

  84. Good for Jerry not giving into the witch hunt the media created. . This is the same media that has left Ray Rice unemployed after creating the same witch hunt mob mentality. Look here I don’t condone DV at all but it seems like the media & public care more about the abuse than the actual victim.. If she’s not pursuing it (remember folks she chose to get paid!!!) Then move the hell on.. There’s nothing to see here! The courts & the NFL have already made their decision along with the young woman who went for the cash grab! If you wanna get pissed at something get pissed at the female along with Hardy whose moral standards of herself arent pretty high to allow a man to disrespect her & abuse her without seeing this coward behind bars.. But nope she excuses all DV as long as she got paid. No class or standards or value of self worth. She’s just at fault here as Hardy but we won’t point our fingers at her & say how low she is for taking the money.. That’s America for you lol.

  85. Jerry Jones must prove to the world that he can win a Super Bowl all by himself without Jimmy Johnston holding his hand. This is eating him up! The Cowboys will never win the Super Bowl as long as Jerry is their owner. He is a bum.

  86. Say what you want about the patriots….

the Patriots cut ties with their beast TE. Done. Over.

Jerry, you listening, or are you really this tone deaf.

  87. The so-called “bruising” in these photos is barely visible. She has one legitimate bruise under her chin, which could have come from anywhere. The rest of the marks on her, particularly the ones on her back, are abrasions consistent with someone being restrained from attacking another person, which is what Hardy and Curtis claim happened. If Hardy had done what this woman actually claimed he did, the bruising would have been horrific.

All the brain-dead self-righteous asshats ripping Hardy on this forum need to ask themselves why the DA refused to prosecute the case. It’s because HE KNEW SHE WAS LYING (duh…). Read this gem from her interview with Detective Faye Strother:

Strother: Did you report any of the past ?

    Holder: No mam… no mam.

    Strother: Why not?

    Holder: He terrifies me.

HA! He “terrifies” her… until he opens his wallet, his fly, or both, and which is why she spent months in a relationship with him. What complete and utter bullsh!t. This woman is Anita Hill 2.0.

If Hardy was actually guilty of beating the tar out of this woman, why did the judge in the bench trial, who has a long track record of women’s rights activism, just give him a slap-on-the-wrist sentence of 60 days probation? And why would Hardy then appeal such a light sentence if he was truly guilty of DV? A genuinely guilty person would have breathed a sigh of relief and been done with it. Instead, Hardy risks a much more severe sentence by having the case tried de novo before a jury (which could quite possibly include persons almost as stupid as the majority of the posters on this thread…). Why? BECAUSE HE’S INNOCENT AND WANTS TO CLEAR HIS NAME.

For those of you thinking that Hardy paid her off to escape justice, why didn’t he do so before the bench trial?

Also, why did now-former L.A. Kings hockey player Slava Voynov spent 90 days in the L.A. County Jail last summer for DV, notwithstanding the fact that the victim in the case, his wife, refused to testify against him even when threatened with contempt by the judge? And how in the world was Aaron Hernandez ever convicted of murder without any witnesses? It’s because THE EVIDENCE was sufficient to convict both of them. And THE EVIDENCE in the Hardy case DOES NOT support Nicole Holder’s story, which is why the DA, the police and pretty much everyone in law enforcement in Charlotte correctly viewed this case for what it was: a SHAKEDOWN by Holder.

  88. You had an out and didn’t take it. Never cease to disappoint me, Jerry.

    Sheesh…

If Greg Hardy had shown any remorse whatsoever like Ray Rice has, maybe this is mote palatable. Greg Hardy got paid to not play last year and got another contract that he’ll earn via incentives and barely suffered through any consequences.

  89. Ok, Jerrah, are you going to call Ray Rice and give him a 2nd chance too. Hypocrite!!!!!! Cowboys USA to be a class organization, now they are a low and shameful bunch. Hope they lose the next 5 in a row.

  90. Let’s hear from him, and we will see how many execs with the Cowboys want to stand up and be counted. NONE….Including the perp. He’ll go quiet like a lamb…..classical.

  91. Americas team or nightmare! This team replaces mine as the most dysfunctional NFL team. After the Rice incident the NFL still can’t get it right! Smashing a woman into a bathtub and throwing her over a table full of assault rifles! This guy is a time bomb waiting to blow.

  92. I’m just curious why no media outlet ever really focused on Junior Gallette. How come nobody is hounding Snyder? Wasn’t he involved in TWO assault cases against women? One of which was even on video. He’s a Washington Redskin and would be on the field every week if he didn’t get hurt. What about that signing? Hardy is a scumbag but I’m 100% certain there are people that each one of you work with who has been in a similar situation. This is the NFL. These are not all good people and they’re not all bad people. I’m sure each team has it’s “troubled” players but this is the hot story since it involves Dalllas.

  93. As an employee of American Airlines, I’m ashamed to have my company name associated with the Dallas Cowboys. I hope my company stops its sponsorship of a pathetic organization run by skeletor.

  94. I’m proud to see that the Cowboys/Goodell/Jones and most Dallas fans think Tom Brady is an awful role model and Hardy is a good one

That pretty much sums up the state of the NFL

  95. Kobe Bryant, Ben Roethlisberger, Ray Lewis? Only difference is no eye witnesses. Hell, throw Michael Jackson in there. And then there’s Aaron Hernandez and Subway Jared.

This isn’t unique to the Cowboys or the NFL.

  96. You get a second chance AFTER you serve time in a jail. What this a**h*le got was a get out of jail card then some money from a despicable guy like Jerry Jones. PATHETIC organization and even a worse owner making excuses!

  97. Complete SCUM! Hardy should be out of this league with his buddy Ray Rice. This really sets a great example for the children who watch this game. PATHETIC!!!

  98. Hardy is such a scumbag that no one will pick him up in my fantasy league with IDP’s, and that was before the pictures came out. Jones and Hardy deserve each other, I just wish it was in a prison cell instead of the NFL.

  99. “We as an organization take very this seriously.”

I actually am not sure if this is a typo on the writers part, or if Jerry is actually so incompetent, that he can’t form sentences correctly.

  100. If that was Jerry Jones daughter in those pictures would the Cowboys be giving him a second chance?

  101. The owners and league office do not care. Nothing will change.

The NFL is spending millions upon millions of dollars over a false claim of altering air pressure in footballs. Fining players for honoring loved ones during cancer awareness month. Yet they know a guy beat up another woman and try to hide it all once again, because he is talented on the field. The people in charge of the NFL are just bad, greedy people.

  102. Translation: “I’m a dirtbag, and I have no problem with having dirtbags on my team and no crime is so bad as long as I think he can help my team” This is the reason why no other team would stoop low enough to sign Hardy but when your talking about Jerry there isn’t ever low enough

  103. The fact that Jerry Jones is morally bankrupt should surprise no one. The fact that the Cowboys are having a terrible season shoudn’t surprise anyone who knows anything about football. I can’t say its a fact that the two are related but I certainly can’t rule it out either.

  104. Wonder how the other “decent law abiding” guys in the locker room treat him. I bet they’re wives have a strong opinion!

  105. The 2nd chance is NOT going off to jail, Jerry.
Everyone can see thru Jerry’s “reasoning”.
Makes me wonder if any teammates or opponents will have a “reaction” to these photos…. the PR fallout this weekend should be interesting.

  106. I don’t understand why Hardy is not getting the Ray Rice treatment from the NFL. Did you see the photos? He didn’t just punch a woman once, he beat the crap out of her! With all those marks on her, he must have been tossing her around like a rag doll. Real men don’t do that, ever. Neither guy deserves a 2nd chance but if you had to pick 1 of these 2 guys to give a 2nd chance, it surely wouldn’t be Hardy.

  107. Second chances may be extended to people who make mistakes, show contrition, make amends and show the desire to make positive changes in their lives. Hardy has been completely unrepentant about this incident, arrogantly acting as just a criminal who got away with it (which is exactly what he is).

Jones needs to understand the difference between giving people a second chance, and enabling. Hardy’s a ticking bomb, and the next one is on the Cowboy’s organization, and Jones in particular.

And shame on the NFL for having allowed Hardy back after having access to this material. A lifetime ban is what he should have received. If he sued back, any money spent on those legal proceedings would have been FAR better spent, morally and PR-wise, than the wasted millions on the Deflategate witch hunt. It just shows where the NFL’s priorities are.

  108. They are 2-5 with the woman beater. They would be 2-5 without the woman beater. Jerry prefers to be 2-5 with the woman beater.

  109. I’m here to post my fake moral outrage. Yeah, Hardy is a jerk. The woman in the photos didn’t testify against him. Most posters on here DESPISE Roger and the mods of this site don’t like him either. So what did you think was gonna happen? Earth to PFT posters, Hardy is not the only guy in the history of the league to beat women. If Jerrah didn’t hire him someone else would have.

  110. Jerry,Jerry, Jerry, your a snake in the grass. It’s all about you isn’t it?
You don’t care about Greg Hardy or the Cowboy fans, it’s Jerry’s world that you care about.

  111. His statement does not end this problem. I’m waiting to see what he does when the women groups come after him and the sponsors stop paying, that happened in Minn. and it will happen here.

  112. This (the Dallas Cowboys) used to be my second favorite team since I was in the second grade-Don Meredith, Bob Hayes, Bob Lily, Don Perkins, Dan Reeves, Jethro Pugh, Mel Renfro, Walt Garrison, John Niland, Lee Roy Jordan, Ralph Neely, Les Shy (wow I remember Les Shy) etc, etc ,etc-I still remember those names like it was yesterday and I will until the day I die. But ever since Jerry Jones owned the team the “ONLY” thing he’s done right is hire Jimmy Jones. Even the last Super Bowl won by the Cowboys belongs to Jimmy Jones, not Barry Switzer or Jerry Jones hell I could’ve coached that team to a Super Bowl win. Jerry Jones is proof positive you can be filthy rich and still be a complete idiot……….

  113. Money is the only thing that will move the needle. Billionaires like Jones will react only if there is less money to be counted on Monday morning.

What a great opportunity for Cowboy fans to make a statement and not show up for the prime time game on Sunday night.

Yes, Jones has already cashed the cheques for the tickets, but lost revenue from parking and concessions would be significant.

  114. blackball407 – Webster’s defines “jerk” as “a contemptibly obnoxious person.”

I believe the term you are searching for is “criminal”. Jerk applies to posters like you.

  115. Cowboy fans it’s time to show your disgust or that you’re a Jerry, what’s it gonna be? Boycott the home games, protest and otherwise make your voices heard and Jerry will be forced to cut the POS….otherwise you’re no better than Jerry himself.

  116. The delusional ramblings of an extreme egomaniac that needs desperately to win a title without Jimmy Johnson. What Jones is ignoring is that Hardy’s teammates have wives, sisters, girlfriends and mothers. How will they look at their teammate now that they they can see what a monster he is? And if just a handful of teammates don’t want him on the roster, welcome to a divided locker room.

  117. So Greg Hardy. got a 4 game suspension for this and the league wanted to give Tom Brady 4 games for his part in letting air out of a football ? Something is wrong with the NFL’s system of discipline . Yes, people should have a chance at redemption., but I don’t think that Greg Hardy should be playing football.

  118. I was bitching about this months ago when they signed the bum. What difference does the pictures make now. Along with using his money to subvert the legal system. This guy should be in prison!!

  119. Jerry says, “We gave Hardy a second chance.” So, with that second chance Hardy makes creepy comments about another player’s wife and assaults one of your coaches. Then you call him one of the team’s “real leaders”.

“We do not condone domestic violence.”

    YES YOU DO.

    (face palm)

  120. Oh, and saying you didn’t have access to the photos is a bald-faced lie. The NFL did.

  121. Several feelings here:

    Re. Jerry Jones:
    A) Do you REALLY think we believe you when you say you didn’t see those photos before you signed Hardy?

    B) The fact that you have NOW seen those photos and still haven’t cut Hardy, along with your “give him a second chance” line, prove to the world that you don’t give a crap what kind of player you put on the field, it’s all about WINNING. And you obviously don’t give a crap about women’s abuse.

    Re. Hardy:
You’re a piece of crap who beat a woman badly, showed no remorse, was CONVICTED of this once, and show no remorse NOW.

I don’t care how much of a beast you are on the field, you’re a piece of human garbage who should be locked up next to Aaron Hernandez.

    Re. Roger Gooddell:
If you have shown the world one thing, it’s that you have no set plain on handling players who violate the law in abusing/assaulting women and children. You hold different standards for players, depending on their team, and the amount of evidence against them …. you step up your punishment when confronted with video proof.

You should immediately come out with a one-strike policy: Assault a woman or a child, and you are DONE. Doesn’t matter who you are, how good you are, or whether there is video or not.

    DONE.

You let people like Hardy back in the game, yet you persecute a football legend like Tom Brady all the way to Federal court, over a few wisps of air that your $5 million investigation can’t even say happened.

You’re a hypocrite of the highest level, and an inconsistent one at that!!!

  122. By the way, as much as I abhor violence against women, it’s hard to feel compassion for a woman who took the payout, instead of prosecuting this piece of garbage and putting him where he belongs: behind bars.

If Hardy feels no remorse, it’s partly because the money mattered more to her.

  123. Bet Jerry wouldn’t be saying that if Hardy did that to his daughter! What a POS! I guess he belongs with Jerry. Birds of a feather, flock together!!

  124. It is a myth that “what goes around, comes around”. Karma is a nice thought and so is heaven but I have faith in neither. That said, it has been a tough year for some prominent sniveling connivers like Goodell, Irsay and Grigson, John Harbaugh and Jerry Jones (so maybe I should be agnostic instead of an atheist).

You don’t have to be a fan of an unbeaten team to want to see the winning continue. Don Shula, Mercury Morris, and the rest of the “perfect” Dolphins, the definition of a poor winners, will be soiling their Depends if all of these unbeaten teams keep winning.

  125. P.S. What is it with you clowns trying to make this a black and white issue-obviously he didn’t date your sister. Hardy got away with it because there’s someone out there as stupid and desperate enough as Jerry Jones to put a loser on the team like Greg Hardy. This is about Jerry Jones stupidity not Greg Hardy being a loser…………….

  126. Owners get too much credit when teams win and not enough blame when they lose, and not nearly enough for the culture of the team. I’m a Patriots fan and we have had dirt bags on the team we root for as well. If it wasn’t for Myra Kraft, Bob Kraft’s wife, Christian Peter would never have been cut. He was cut before training camp opened after being drafted by the Patriots in 1996 in the 5th round (well before the Belichick head coaching era).

The background on Peter was disgusting. While at Nebraska, Peter had eight run-ins with the law for various offenses such as threatening a parking attendant while his vehicle was being towed, trespassing, public urination, refusing to comply with police, minor in possession of alcohol, failure to appear in court, and allegedly grabbing a woman by the throat. He was convicted four times. He was alleged to have raped a freshman girl; two times in two days—the second with two of his teammates keeping watch.

Peter went on to play for the Giants, Colts and Bears.

  127. Oh, I love the guy who says the Pats don’t hold onto bad apples.

Yes, they do. They sign them with glee. I can think of several they signed.

The only reason they cut Aaron Hernandez was that they were going to lose him anyway due to jail time.

He served a suspension, and wasn’t convicted of a crime (because of the settlement)
    ===

Wrong. He was convicted at trial. The conviction was thrown out on appeal.

If you going to support psychopaths, at least have your facts straight.

  129. I hope The Eagles are ready for all the extra fans they picked up this week as all fans from every team are rooting for them to destroy Jerry and his boys! Go get em Eagles!

  130. I have more respect for the Dallas Cowboys fans than to put up with this. Either Greg Hardy or Jerry Jones (preferably both) have got to go!

  131. Love the guy who said it’s not a black-and-white issue. So, are you saying there’s mitigating circumstances for what he did?

    From Bananas (1971):

Rebel Leader: You are accused of killing over a thousand people in your term of office… of torturing hundreds of women and children. How do you plead?

    Diaz: Guilty… with an explanation.

Those photos were pretty bad, but can she explain why she took the money instead of getting him prosecuted. It just doesn’t make sense.

    Ever been broke and desperate?

Sorry but what else are the cowboys to do? release him? No one can resign him because of this? NFL career over while not even being convicted?

Athletes aren’t role models, get over it.

If all the stories of every major league athlete got out there would be no one left to play!

If he does it again, get rid of him, but JJ is right about the second chance.

Social justice warriors unite! Get the pitch forks!

He WAS convicted. Then he paid the witness off not to show up to testify at appeal which is the only reason he “got off.”

who cares? hardy is paid to sack the qb, what he does in his private life is nobody’s business. I’m sick and tired of these morality police white people trying to assasinate the character of young blacks, especially young blacks with money. I’m not a perfect person but I don’t pretend to be holier than thou like all these ESPN aka BSPN racist white media hacks. m.
    ————————————————————————–

This has to be the single most moronic comment I have ever read on here. Quite an achievement, actually.

  135. They have courts, judges and police to take care of these issues. It’s not up to Jerry Jones or the NFL to put people in jail.

If they aren’t in jail, then there’s no reason they can’t play NFL football. If it was my team, I’d let anyone play whether they’re out on bail, parole or whatever.

  136. Ray Rice is blackballed. Why? By whom? Double standard. I don’t care if Greg Hardy or Ray Rice play football, just be consistent with your morality scale…NFL really needs to step back from the police business.

  137. Yes. Other players have done it and worse and have gotten off scott free. That does not make it right. Different place, different time. This is going to be a s&*t storm for Jerry and Dallas. 2nd chances are for people who want and deserve them. Don’t think Hardy cares what we think. But he will and soon.
Prediction. I think there will be a locker room rebellion.

  138. Apparently the price for one’s soul is ownership of the Dallas Cowboys. There’s a special place in hell for those who sell. And to all you dopes saying his private life doesn’t matter, let him play? Ya’ll joining Jerry when it’s all said and done.

  139. When does the other league owners insist on a “make up call’? Clearly an injustice has been done to the integrity of the shield. It is now confirmed that the league is filled with hypocrites and faux outrage.

  140. Jerry – Time to do the right thing. No sack is worth ignoring Domestic Violence. This is simply deplorable. Hardy belongs in prison. Not on the front four of your team. You are wrong this time. #SACKHARDYNOW

  141. Everyone who is all upset at Jerry Jones, The Cowboys, Greg Hardy, and the NFL should just go watch the social work channel. Oh wait, there isn’t one, probably because it would be too exciting to stand.

  142. 143. Jerry, if you believe in second chances, why didn’t you sign Ray Rice after your running backs got injured? He has at least acted remorseful since his incident. The reason is because Rice is on the downside of his career. Let’s face the facts Jerry, you signed Hardy because you are a greedy bastard that has no heart or spine. Hardy is a disgusting human being and you praise him for being a leader on your team. Jerry, you really should hire a GM & a PR department. You just don’t get it.

  144. By responding the way he did he took away any criticism that suddenly the situation is different because of the photos, when it was already obvious what Hardy did.

However, the downside is Hardy hasn’t changed at all. This is unlikely to be the end of episodes with him, and now Jones will take 100% blame if something happens.

I find it entertaining how the media is jumping all over this but will still have Jim Brown on their shows.
    ================================
I find it totally remarkable that you can even compare Hardy to Brown. Other than being a menace, has Hardy contributed anything to his community?

  146. OK Mr. Jones. If the woman in those pictures was your daughter, would you still give Mr. Hardy a second chance? I think not. It is shame that some women are not strong enough to do the right thing and testify against their abuser and take them off the streets. I guess money can buy you freedom.
Mr. Hardy shows not shown any remorse. He will beat a another woman, it is just a matter of time.

  147. The release of the deadspin photos only proves how a mob mentality of political correctness NOW wants some other punishment for Greg Hardy. Lets stone him to death in a town square like they do in some backwards barbaric countries. You are all worthless and weak, part of a modern lynch mob that seeks to undermine in favor of what the public mob wants.

Here’s what I know….I don’t know Greg Hardy and neither do any of you. I don’t know if he will ever repeat his actions and neither do any of you holier than thou types. I know this guy can ball and has the right to earn a living doing so as long as he stays out of trouble PROSPECTIVELY. I know many of you along with Deadspin want to judge him RETROSPECTIVELY over and over again.

What a sad bunch of characters.

  148. Once the corporate sponsors start pulling out(and I hope they do)Jerry Jones will change his tune very quickly I’m sure, because with people like him if you’re not able to make him any money he’s got no use for you.

  149. It’s funny people are jumping on Jerry now, this is how he has always played it. All the great Cowboys teams of the past had some extreme characters on them. Difference is, back then, there was nowhere as much scrutiny. No twitter, facebook, less media coverage etc. Basically, you couldn’t broadcast your opinion past your own circle. Today, we know that has all changed.

    —-
IMO, you live with the law, for better or worse. Sentence given, arbitrated and served. That said, something seems odd here and I hope Hardy doesn’t give anyone more reason to think badly of him as a person. Not saying anyone deserves anything, just saying. If the Holder is dishonest for or against Hardy she does a disservice to all true victims and if Hardy repeats it’s on her too. I get that she may be scared but if he’s that bad a line needs to be drawn. Sad when you can trust no one.

  151. Jerry is so desperate to win he would sell his soul to the devil! If your a villain and can help us winning then the Cowboys franchise is place the for you! If you have a rap sheet then they have a contract for you!

  152. You are the only team who wanted this guy. It’s not about giving Hardy a chance, it’s about giving yourself a chance. Liar.

  153. It isn’t about wether he is innocent or not, it’s public perception. A lot of women watch football, buy football related items, and enjoy the game just as much as men. Taking him on threatens to piss off women, and any man can tell you that is never a good idea. What may or may not translate into wins on the field will probably mean lost revenue from merchandise sales and lower tv ratings. It also makes you look like a flaming douche. Why bother?

  154. Privately, JJ will tell you he is a HUGE fan of the JR character from Dallas. As I recall, JR treated women like chattel. Good role model JJ!

  155. Why is there no link in here to the Deadspin article? This is disgusting. The NFL discipline/appeals process has to be fixed. Rich, entitled guys saying hey, let me rub it in your face just a little bit more.

  156. Meanwhile, up until now they’ve been spreading the narrative that maybe he was innocent after all.

  157. @jesterx7769
He served a suspension, and wasn’t convicted of a crime (because of the settlement)

Ray Rice served a suspension too and he was never charged with a crime.

Sorry but what else are the cowboys to do? release him? No one can resign him because of this? NFL career over while not even being convicted?

Ray Rice, after the video was released, was cut and no one else has re-signed him or is willing to sign him and his NFL career is over (as it should be and I’m a Ravens fan, but Ray Rice deserved what he got)

Athletes aren’t role models, get over it.

You are not correct that Athletes aren’t role models. It is a privilege to play a sport for a living (not a right or entitlement). With that privilege comes the expectation that you will be a role model for those who want to emulate you and be like you when they grow up. If you can’t be a good role model on and off the field you shouldn’t play the game.

If all the stories of every major league athlete got out there would be no one left to play!

I understand players make mistakes and things happen, but this goes beyond that. If a player gets a DUI, ok, you say you make a mistake and you move on, you beat someone so bad you leave the marks shown in the photos, you should be done.

If he does it again, get rid of him, but JJ is right about the second chance.

So what you are saying here is that it is ok to hit a woman once and you should get a pass but if you hit her again then you should be punished? Hmm….hope you aren’t married.

  158. Makes you wonder if Hernandez was able to just pay off everyone involved and the families, have his record expunged, how quickly would an NFL owner give him a second chance?

It’s ridiculous that his money bought his freedom. Everyone should then be able to offer a financial settlement instead of jail. Why have courts and laws ,when we all really would rather just have money. Very sad place we have landed.

  159. With his record having been expunged, it’s likely he’ll avoid jail next time there’s an incident. Hardy may have more chances in the future.

  160. “Second chances” are for those that are remorseful and responsible. Greg Hardy is neither of those things. He is defiant and entitled….he is just another example of an NFL player who has no respect.
