Kaepernick doesn’t understand Tomsula’s “breathe” comment

AP

San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick and coach Jim Tomsula aren’t on the same page about Tomsula’s decision to bench Kaepernick this week.

Tomsula explained that he made the decision to sit Kaepernick down in favor of Blaine Gabbert because he thinks Kaepernick needs to “step back and breathe.” But Kaepernick thinks that explanation rings hollow.

“I’m not out of breath, so I don’t understand that reference,” Kaepernick told reporters on Friday.

If Kaepernick doesn’t understand why Tomsula benched him, that doesn’t speak well for Tomsula’s ability to communicate with his players. Tomsula should be able to explain to Kaepernick exactly why he made the decision to go to Gabbert.

But Kaepernick should also understand that when your play declines the way Kaepernick’s has, a benching is in order. Kaepernick’s passer rating has declined from 98.3 in 2012 to 91.6 in 2013 to 86.4 in 2014 to 78.8 this year. Those numbers are worthy of a benching, whether Kaepernick understands Tomsula’s comments or not.

  1. “I’m not out of breath, so I don’t understand that reference,” Kaepernick told reporters on Friday.

There it is right there, he really doesn’t get it, he doesn’t get anything at all.

  2. For some reason, I don’t think it’s because they aren’t on the same page… I think Kaep’s comments kind of show some of his true colors… It shows that he is either dense and doesn’t know how to interpret an analogy, or it shows that he is arrogant. Tomsula isn’t saying that he is out of breathe, Tomsula is saying that he wants him to be able to relax and see things from a different perspective for a couple of weeks (i.e. the bench). You can tell that he is trying to do too much on the field: taking too long to make the perfect decision every snap and not trusting his athletic ability.

  3. Tomsula is not smart enough to be an NFL head coach. This is the same type of hiring as Mike Singletary. All emotion and no brains. Guy down in Miami is the same type. They will have a momentary improvement from the emotion but these types don’t have what it takes to do it long term.

  4. “I’m not out of breath, so I don’t understand that reference,” Kaepernick told reporters on Friday.

Then maybe he needs to try understanding the first part of the message and “step back.” By any objective assessment the benching was deserved.

  5. Let’s all try and dumb it down for Kaep. It’s not because you are out of breath. It’s because you S-U-C-K.

    Happier now?

  6. Wow. This dude is more literal than my 4 year old child. Did you see the common core question where they ask you to show your work. Kaepernick has a picture of him breathing… This is not good for Niners.

  7. Kap, it’s a politically correct way of saying ur terrible and u need to sit down… Blaine Gabbert is starting in ur place, FYI, that’s not good.

  8. Couldn’t it possibly be that he was joking, but he is at the point now where everything he says and does will twisted to be cast in a negative light? I’m going with that one because the alternative is simply mind boggling.

  9. I think what Tomsula is doing is giving Kaepernick more time to catch up on retweeting “all da haterzz” on Twitter. A lot more of them lately….

  10. When Kapernickus says that he’s not out of breath he’s not speaking literally either.

He understands the metaphor and he’s answering in kind.

He’s saying: “I’m playing just fine. If we’re not successful then it’s somebody else’s fault.”

THAT is why the locker room is falling apart. Unfortunately, Kapersnatch isn’t the kind of guy to whom you can trust your football team.

Guys like Tom Brady–inferior physical skills but better leadership skills–are better for your team.

  11. He can’t understand the terminology on this or read a defense. Prime example of the issues.

Not a 49er fan but thought this guy would be a superstar. Maybe he matches up with a new organization and is able to have a successful career. If you can’t throw downfield you will not win!

A guy like Cordelle Stewart went to multiple AFC championships but limitations exist if you can’t read defenses and never won a SB.

  12. Nothing is going to get through to Kaepernick that will change that disgusting throwing motion and spindly leg set he’s got looking absolutely horrendous when he throws

  13. His comment tells you everything you need to know. I hope Gabbert lights it up! Kap and RG3 would make a great talk show duo discussing how great they are and how the NFL ruined them with no fault of their own.

  14. If poor play is the reason then why is Andrew Suck still playing? Funny how players like Suck and Crapford can stink up the joint for years but Kaep or RG struggle for a few games and people act like they should be out the league. Makes you say hmmmmmm.

  15. Kaepernick was set up for failure by a horridly-inept 49’ers management team. Some have compared his stats to Cam Newton (and yes, they’re close) but the one that jumps off the page is Cam being sacked 13 times, while Kaep has gone down 28 times. Remember Eli Manning in 2013? This year he’s lighting up the skies, but in 2013 he had 18 TD’s and 27 INT’s because he was sacked 39 times (Kaep is on a HIGHER pace by far this year). No QB of any talent level can succeed from his back. All these haters have no clue when they jump down Kaepernick’s throat. Personally, I can’t wait until he’s traded and can show people what he’s got. Just like Jim Harbaugh was let go for being a bad coach. RIGHT, 49’ers management. RIGHT.

  16. Just like I thought, if you post the video you can see he had a smirk on his face. He is more trolling then being serious when he said that. MDS you’re a tool.

  17. Tomsula was just taking the sting out of the benching by saying CKap needs to breathe and now CKap is being passive-aggressive by saying he’s not out of breath

  18. “Don’t you know, don’t you know
That it’s wrong to take what is given you
So far gone, on your own
You can get along if you try to be strong
But you’ll never be strong ’cause

You’re a rich girl, and you’ve gone too far
‘Cause you know it don’t matter anyway
You can rely on the old man’s money
You can rely on the old man’s money”

  19. Isn’t his qbr same as newtons? Except panthers are winning and cams an MVP candidate?

  20. He’s trying to be nice instead of saying that you suck. Push the issue some more and people will be a little more blunt. If you’re crying about the “breath” comment then you better get your Pampers ready for the next comments to come.

  21. Just out of curiosity, ask Kap how many things he does understand.
I know reading defensive keys won’t be on that list.

  22. Oh my gosh!! This is way too easy! I’m not even going to comment. I’m just going to have a good laugh reading everyone else’s! LOL!!!

  23. Tomsula probably meant to say, “I benched him because he’s a mouth-breather,” then mumbled something about Raul and the boys cookin up a Christmas feast, thanked Joan in payroll, Velma at the front desk… I can see how Kaepernick was confused.

  24. Kap has been to a super bowl, and he’ll be an NFL QB for a long time, even if it’s for another team. Kurt Warner led the Rams to two super bowls, then suddenly couldn’t play any more. He bounced around from the NY Giants to the Cardinals as backups, then ends up starting again when Leinart got benched. He led Arizona to a super bowl. Kap has already won a lot of playoff games as a very young QB. Was it all Jim Harbaugh? Ifso, I’d buy stock in Harbaugh.

  25. At least it LOOKS like he’s slightly angry about the situation. How can you go from being a leathal weapon to being benched? By not adapting to the defensive schemes that you team is faced with. Years ago I was on a team with this guy who could throw the ball 60-70 yards effortlessly with his left AND rght arm. But during games I guess the play was a little too quick paced for him to make his reads and he would take off running. Other teams caught on and by the end of the season he was benched and the following season he was a no show. The other teams have adapted to CK and now the team will seriously need to look at him and either find a fix with him or move on.

  26. It would serve Kap well if he just knocked on the coaches door and asked for an explanation I believe both him and his coach have some major issues. Apparently neither one know how to communicate in a civil manner.

  27. Let’s recap what we know: Tomsula clearly sucks, Kaep obviously sucks, the team is one of the worst nfl team in years so there is clear evidence that they suck, the team has been bottom feeders for most of the last 20 years so they suck without a doubt and with all the violence that has been reported about the fans this year and other years they suck too.

    It’s all pretty clear

  28. Well this sez a whole lot, he’s as dumb as the people trying to run this Franchise….and with comments like this the CFL is definitely in his future after he and his Gangbanger wannabe buddies spend all his NFL money.

    What a waste of talent…

  29. Simply put, Kap is either stupid or is acting the part. Case closed. In fact, it starts at the top – the entire mgmt team is light on brain power these days. Its gonna suck around here for a long, long time.

  30. Tomsula was in a bind. Management wants him out, and good for Tomsula to not go out there and say “Gabbert gives us the best chance to win”. This is probably step one in Kaep wanting to expedite his exit

  31. Kaps comments make it sound like he’s a jerk and is showing up his coach. I can’t believe he doesn’t understand what the coach meant. If he doesn’t then wow he’s not real sharp.

  32. Hey Kaepernick, your coach was trying to be respectful to you and not tell the media that you flat out suck. Grow up, you know what he meant. Little punk.

  33. It’s fine to bash Kap (and I am not supporting him by any means), but I read his comments as a defensive mechanism.
It is indeed fashionable to kick someone when they are down, but try not to be too literal reading into what athletes say

  34. No reading between the lines for Fallen Colin, we see. I think be grew up with people holding an umbrella over his head, he can’t see big picture. That, and Justin Bieber in his Beats.

  35. Player A:
    passer rating 78.1
    1,523 yards
    11 TD, 8 INT
    Comp% 54.2

    Player B:
    passer rating 78.8
    1,615 yards
    6 TD, 5 INT
    Comp % 59.3

A is the undefeated Cam Newton. B is Kaepernick. Yeah, Kaepernick stinks, but the QB always looks better with a good team around him.

  36. Because you don’t realize that you have just been released. He wants you to breath and accept that.

Frankly, get out of there and go somewhere else.

  37. Smh this potato had to go and tke the statement literally….. Please just don’t replace him with Goff.

  38. Every NFL player has their own personality and Colin Kap. has that what you mean I’m being benched? I’m gonna pull out of it, but whatever the statement, those players who want to tell the Head Coach what’s what… seem to always ruin the chemistry of a team, no matter what sport but even more so with football because it’s a head hunting sport one when you get destroyed on any play. Tensions are always high. Act responsibly and study your stats before you open your mouth is the kind of advice this guy needs. Same old story. the guy is not getting the job done so….lets see if we can find someone that can or at least let you know, we’re looking…. if you keep playing the way you are right now, no matter how stupid we now look giving you a contract you have not lived up, in anyway. I don’t think even Tom Brady could get away with crap like that with Belichick. Just do your job….well……..and the rest will take care of itself. No need to talk when you take responsibility for your performance and the stats your putting out, so take a breath and read and you will understand if not, you have plenty of time to learn.

  39. Not sure why this is news. What is he supposed to say? No one who wants to play is going to say they need a break from playing. And he can’t throw his teammates under the bus and talk about how having the worst offensive line in the league affects his performance. There’s not much he can say other than what he said.

  40. What college did this idiot go to? A 5 year old would understand this comment and he has not been to school yet!
Get rid of this clown, he will never be a NFL QB!!!!

  41. I was this coming years ago along with many others. An idiot never has or will be a good quarterback. Tomsula is a good d-line coach, but not a head coach. I hope York is happy now.

  42. I’ll say it again: I was never a fan of Harbaugh’s decision to bench Alex Smith. I really thought it was the wrong move. But having said that, I don’t think Kapernick just sucks now. They are not using him correctly. These freaking NFL coaches do this with mobile QB’s all the time: They try to make them into pocket passers and then wonder why they fail (Reid and McNabb are the best example I can think of, but it also happened with he and Vick eventually).

Add to this the depleting of the roster, and it’s not hard to understand. Tomsula has no chance to succeed in SF. First, he sucks, so let’s get that out of the way. But in addition to sucking, he’s been set up to fail. I feel you, SF fans. I really do.

  43. Take shots at your organization through the media.

Maybe not the best way to deal with the situation.

  44. I am going to have to agree with Kap on this one. He clearly has mastered both sucking and blowing, so I don’t see any reason for Coach Tomsula to call his mouth-breathing abilities into question.

  45. He needs to go home, relax, pour a glass of wine, and sit with his full-length mirror in front of the fireplace.

  46. Watched his first game as a starter and was amazed at the great throws he made and then tore them up running the ball

What the heck happened to this guy?

  47. Guys like Tom Brady–inferior physical skills

Guys with inferior physical skills aren’t dominating the league at 38 years old.

  48. I can understand that he is thinking, how can I learn from a guy who is not as good as me. I get it.

But the point is he is supposed to evaluate what the defenses are doing and how he can use his skill set to defeat them. His coach may be too stupid to explain this to him or should have explained this to him.

    —————

Of course a QB with more time will have better numbers.

But you are trying to pin THAT as the excuse for why Kaep sucks.

You also forget, he runs himself INTO sacks. He does not allow the lineman to form him a pocket, so they think they are forming a pocket for him, instead that pocket won’t work, because Kaep isn’t where he is supposed to be… and….SACK.

It’s why 49ers fans will trying to say Iupati sucks… nope… Kaep runs into sacks. Even the best line EVER will give up way more sacks then usual because of the WAY Kaep plays QB.

He sucks, because he sucks. He is not a starting QB.

He NEVER was. He has always had these limitations.

Harbaugh hid him until the last few games when he benched Smith for Kaep. No one could figure him out that year. Harbaugh tried to limit him the next year too, why? Because he knew Kaep was deficient.

It’s just now teams have figured him out, at the same time the ol and wr core is worse.

His legs scared everybody, and they still scare everybody, but defenses can manage that.

What Kaep can’t manage is finding the open receiver and getting the ball to him.

He will NEVER be a drop back passer. He will always be the type of QB who is there to make plays with his legs, not his arm.

His legs used to get guys wide open, that does not make you a QB.

Good QB’s make plays with their arm within the offense after their mind sees it unfolding against the defense. Kaep simply doesn’t have that ability.

Of course good teams could use him in a package. But no team that wants to win will have him as a starting QB.

Eli was a good QB, a traditional QB, a QB who could read defenses and get the ball in between the defenses through the offense. Kaep’s big problem is that he is simply utterly incapable of doing this.

But Eli also sometimes takes risks he shouldn’t.

There is no way in hell you can legitimately compare a two time superbowl champion, who also happens to be a good traditional drop back QB, to a guy who is mostly a one read guy, and if he has to make more than one read, he screws up.

Kaep can’t even lick Eli’s jockstrap at being a QB. That’s like saying Manziel is right behind Peyton in his prime.

  51. Just look at your own stats, Kaep:

The road you’re on is just getting worse and worse.

Anyone (including your coach) trying to shake it
up, and try to disrupt the pattern of decline,
is trying to do you a FAVOR.

  52. Super Bowl Appearance, wins it if defense/special teams show up
    4-2 in Playoffs
    3 Playoff Road Wins
    Owns Green Bay

This guy can play when he has offensive line play, it’s been horrible for two years

  53. Hey Kap

How about instead of breathing we took you out because you suck. Do you understand that? How lame are you and I used to be your biggest fan. Started with the Miami hat…how stupid are you

    Sure there is.

“I have not played up to expectations and coach thinks I can get a different perspective and clear my mind by watching from the bench for a while. I support Blaine and I hope he does well but I will strive to get better so that I can earn the starting job again.”

    Not at all hard

  55. I don’t get how he could of been that good in his rookie year when they went to the superbowl to now..
He was on target in and throwing bombs in the playoffs.. Now he can’t complete a 5 yard pass?
I personally think all the money and fame went to his head and he does not care about football anymore….
He needs a Michael Crabtree moment. This is what happened to Crabtree and then he was a free agent NOBODY wanted him. Raiders finally got him for only a 1 year deal because they were not going to trust him either… Reality finally struck for Crabtree that football comes before fashion…
And now Crabtree is the best WR in The NFL

  56. As an amateur psychologist I’ve analyzed the situation and my prognosis is that Kaepernick is suffering from Chinese Stereotype Syndrome. Simply put Kaepernick is subconsciously attempting to “save face” by acting the part he has been conditioned to act as a QB in the American culture. CK knows he sucks. His confidence is shot. He is throwing the ball at the feet of receivers less than 10 yards away. That’s a throw you expect a 7th grader to make 10 times out of 10. CK knows he’s being benched because he’s been terrible. However, he also knows QBs are supposed to have a supreme belief in themselves and act outraged when they are benched. He’s playing a part for the media and fans. As an unpaid professional psychologist my recommended treatment is that he sells cars or becomes a tattoo artist. Anything but football as that would be catastrophic for his confidence and it would have tragic consequences for the eyesight of fans watching on TV or perhaps even dangerous for fans that are sitting 12-15 rows up where an errant pass might fly by their heads.

  57. As an unbiased Pats fan 3,000 miles away, I’m still stunned at how this 49ers team fell so quickly. They were up 31-3 IN Foxboro in 2012…and 5 yards away from a Super Bowl championship. They looked like a young team ready to compete every year. To lose a quality head coach and allow a young star at QB crumble like this is the fault of the top of the organization.

  58. Quote from the article:

“But Kaepernick should also understand that when your play declines the way Kaepernick’s has, a benching is in order. Kaepernick’s passer rating has declined from 98.3 in 2012 to 91.6 in 2013 to 86.4 in 2014 to 78.8 this year. Those numbers are worthy of a benching, whether Kaepernick understands Tomsula’s comments or not..”

    ——————————————————————————
If that’s the case then why don’t the Colts bench Andrew Luck? Why don’t the Panthers bench Cam Newton. Kap’s numbers are better than Cam’s.

From the Head Coach, OC, O Line and personnel. Everything around Kaepernick has been downgraded and declined. What Kaepernick needs is more live snaps and experience not less. He needs more confidence and patience from his organization, not less….he just needs a new team..period. A more stable team with a QB whisperer like Denver or Philly. This is a cold weather, big time successful playoff QB we’re talking about. Who has beaten Tom Brady in New England in December, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, etc. The reason why Kaepernick and the rest of the 49ers personnel is playing like crap is because they don’t have a viable Head Coach. They possibly have the worst Head Coach in NFL history. A lot of the public doesn’t see it now, but Give Tomsula 1-2 more years and he’ll drive the 49ers completely into the ground.

    #Raiders #ModelFranchise #ReturnToGlory #TeamOfTheDecades

  59. As a Niners fan this makes me weep… Tomsula and Kap are clueless… I just read over on SI they interviewed Randy Cross, Ricky Watters, and Carmen Policy about the “state of the Niners”… Watters said that Kap is having a affair with another player’s girlfriend… Nice Kap real Nice… See what happened to Golden Tate. And why is that story not getting more play? Sorry but, if you think that whole locker room does not know and HATE that your out of your mind. Nice leadership Kap…. Off to Cleveland or Detroit you go!

  60. A hunter hunts with his eyes,if he can shoot. Kap’s
two biggest problems: He can’t see and he can’t shoot.
“The Autumn wind is a Raider”, “just win baby” vs. “we want to win with class”. Jed, sell your team ,the project is over and you have failed. The Bay has gone Raider Nation ,so long Jed and Co.

  61. Kap was dominant QB in high school and college. In college playing the read option he did not have to read a defense the way a traditional QB does. He could Rely on his athletic Ability. Unfortunately, KAp is as bright as a box of Rocks and will NEVER be able read a NFL defense and clearly can not process any adjustments a defense makes in Game. To make matters worse he is also a jack ass.

    Good luck in Canada.

  62. Tomsula- “Hey Kap, did you just see what flew over your head?”
    Kaepernick-“No what was it?”
    Tomsula- “Reality”
    Kaepernick-“Uggggh…….I dont get it?”

  63. If Kaepernick doesn’t understand why Tomsula benched him, that doesn’t speak well for Tomsula’s ability to communicate with his players.
    _________________

No. It doesn’t speak well for Kaepernick’s intelligence and common sense.

  64. So they’ve got a coach and a QB, both of whom aren’t performing well, and, on top of that, aren’t getting along with each other. It’s plain to see that one of them won’t be there next year. Next stop for Kaepernick? Any chance that Jed York just fires himself first?

  65. This is what happens when you try to transform a mobile QB into a pocket passer. Coaching that doesn’t play your strengths will make you fail.

I feel sorry for 9’er fans, but keep your chins up – At least he isn’t built like RGIII

  66. I’m making a coffee table book called “Kaepernick doesn’t understand…”

And list all the wonderful concepts and things that he has no ability to comprehend.

Wow. This dude is more literal than my 4 year old child. Did you see the common core question where they ask you to show your work.

    ——-

Speaking of common core, my daughter’s first grade class is being asked math questions like:

    5+2 = __+4

    …As well as word problems.

  68. Guys like Tom Brady–inferior physical skills
    ************************

Say what now? Running/Jumping/dunking are not the only way to quantify “Physical Skill”. Guys like Brady & the Manning Bros may not look it, but they have a ton of physical skill. You don’t get to the HOF as a QB on just brains and leadership. And I don’t think anyone would argue that all three will be no brainers for enshrinement.

  69. He’s been terrible and has deserved his benching on some level. There’s not a whole lot of talent around him right now but still, he definitely has not played well either.

But the whole “he must be dumb” narrative only makes you look dumb. He had a 4.0 in high school, graduated from college and scored a 38 on the wonderlic test. He clearly understands the analogy.

  70. The 49ers have horrible leadership at the owner,GM and head coach level.

The offense sucks , the QB play has been piss poor. However Gabbert is not the answer . kapernick’s stats are eerily similar to Cam Newton’s.

Need to rebuild and increase the performance of the O line, find durable running back and change the offensive scheme. Want a drop back passer cut Kapernick and find a new QB, or build an offense around his skill set and move forward.

The. Head Coach is severely overmatched, Bad move by Owner and GM to make the chnge they did. I would assume that all talented Head Coaches in the. NFL are hard to “Manage” they why they got there.

  71. 78.0 pass rating is worthy of benching? Then remind me why Cam Newton is still playing? Further, remind me why this site continues to tout Cam and his 78.0 passer rating as MVP worthy.

  72. Clearly he was trying to make a bad joke….even my 7 year old would have understood what Tomsula was saying…

But the theme of “not understanding” is pretty widespread in the 49ers organization from top down

  73. I was really excited when Kaep came into league, but now I see he is another Tebow, albeit, a better version (can run faster). As a QB, you have to have a hair trigger arm, and a fast brain to go with it. He may have the arm, but he looks at his first read, then panics if it isn’t there. You see it games, like a deer in the headlights. Lastly, with all his interceptions, he overthrows a lot.

  74. Tomsula is not smart enough to be an NFL head coach. This is the same type of hiring as Mike Singletary. All emotion and no brains. Guy down in Miami is the same type. They will have a momentary improvement from the emotion but these types don’t have what it takes to do it long term.

You have no idea if these guys are intelligent or not. What a stupid thing to say.

  75. First of all, it appears the niner’s have thrown in the towel. When you lose a coach and pro bowl players, this is what you call rebuilding. Who.rebuilds in a new stadium … secondly, if QB is good at running a certain kind of offense keep using it instead of making him sit in the pocket and get wore out your Oline is terrible. Now if you ask me the head coach needs to be benched …im just saying poor Blaine sound like a porn star name lmao…

  76. Yikes…I don’t think Kap was joking, and the term dumb jock in full application here for Kap if he doesn’t understand the metaphor of Tomsula’s comment. Jed York and Baalke are still the main sabateurs of the 49ers. Business over winning…but folks are dropping them PSL’s fast in the post Harbaugh era.

  77. CK7 will be fine, the Raiders and the Eagles were teams that were interested when he was in the draft.

Either way, he will have at least two teams waiting for him.

CK7 would propel the Raiders further than Carr.

CK7 takes hits well and doesn’t get hurt, Carr does.

Raiders would be foolish not to pick him up if he leaves.

  78. Maybe they should do ask Alex Smith what he’s doing. You know, the great QB that Harbaugh threw down for this guy?

  79. Earlier this week I read an article where the author states that players he contacted state the Kaep needs to step back and breathe. The same comment comes from Tomsula’s mouth after Kaep was benched. I think the comment was a product of front orfice spin, and not from other players. Comments like “Kaep’s on an island” and locker room discord sound like planned front orfice leaks aimed at getting the fans behind Kaep’s departure. I’m not saying that there isn’t any locker room problems. There will be issues in any locker room of a losing team. When the front orfice started attacking Harbaugh last year through anonymous sources, team play suffered. The front orfice tries to get a quality coaching staff in the off season but word is out that they suck and any coach worth his salt turned them down. Kaep does need to read defenses better and he has lost confidence in his front line. Defenses crash his front line which cuts his time to make the right decision and better throw. The vanilla plays used by the 49ers are few and figured out by the other teams. Also Kaep’s getting shell-shocked like David Carr did when he played for the Texans.
I’m sure Kaep knows he needs to leave SF. What he’s saying is what other prospective teams want to hear. That he has confidence in himself and backs his current team to the end.

  80. Remember after week 1 and everyone was praising Kurt Warner and Keapernick for improving as a passer? Warner hasn’t said a thing since the last 4 weeks of games.

I watched to see Kaep was joking at his presser. He cracked a smile few answers later but he looked dead serious in his response. So he either a bad quarterback with terrible comedic timing or a bad quarterback that doesn’t get conceptual language.

  81. Tomsula had to explain – “You’se sits back, let your mouth hang open, scratch your belly, or your ass if it’s itching, maybe a little belch or a fart, then heavy sound in…. heavy sound out…..”.

  82. I don’t care what his wonderlick or GPA was…I don’t believe those scores, however they were attained, to be relevant for Colin at this particular time.

As a hawks fan I have been listening to him closely for years now and he has NEVER been eloquent with well thought-out answers. For years people said he was just taking on his coach’s curt attitude but I just think that was a convenient excuse. The dude just can’t speak very well.

Maybe he is just more of an introvert but every time I have heard him speak I have come away thinking the guy is like a box of rocks and happy he wasn’t the qb I had to root for.

  83. As a Seahawks fan that watched a lot of Hawks and niners games here’s the problem kaperchoke. Since you don’t get it I’ll explain it to you. You threw 2 pick sixes against the cardinals on your first two drives. Since then, you don’t have the guts to throw anything near a defender because you’re scared you might screw up. Against the Hawks you averaged 3 yards a pass attempt as you completed 17/35 passing. On the other hand. Russell Wilson who I know isn’t playing great this year, threw 4 int and had his worst game of his career against the packers in the playoffs last year. Was he scared in overtime? No, he threw a 50 yard touchdown perfectly placed to jermaine hearse to go to the super bowl. Not saying RW is perfect but he’s got guts and Kaperchoke is weak minded on and off the field.

  84. Moving up the Draft Board baby. Get high picks through out the draft…. go after John Harbaugh when to Ravens fire him and start rebuilding 😉

  85. Anyone who thinks Kaepernick is a good quarterback is an idiot. He is a running back who can’t play running back as a first position, but can throw a football. If ha hasn’t learned the position by now, he never will. “Given an opportunity…”… Yeah, right. Any team can take any man in decent shape and train him to be a quarterback, even if they never played the game before. Why should Kaepernick be given a chance to learn how to play the game? Do any of you Kaepernick worshippers actually think any team would trade for him so he can be a back up while he learns to play the position? If Kaepernick is lucky, a team will pick him up off the street to compete as a reserve guy. If a player is a quarterback and cannot start on a bad team, where will he go to start elsewhere? Another bad team? You cats are hilarious. Kaepernick’s success was a product of the team being well above average at every position besides quarterback. Kaepernick didn’t make the 9ers look good, they made him look good. Down vote my comment if you don’t know anything about football.

  86. I have traded for him in Madden for years.! Lol Hope he becomes a NYG. New coach next year will like him better than Eli. I am a lifelong Giants fan but this team is awful. He would be a QB type the Giants never had. Who knows, I think the kid has talent but no surrounding players to help him.

  87. All the “new wave” quasi QB’s that came out of college at the same time…. Kaep, Luck, RGIII, Wilson… have all regressed as the NFL has the talent to watch film and learn how to defend against the college level plays that they were running.

As a Seahawk fan, we are also this close to the same issues that the 49ers are having. Our offense is offensive and the other teams know exactly what we are going to do. If it wasn’t for Beastmode, better coaching and having the Ref’s blow some weird calls, the Hawks would be 2-6 right now and we would all be looking at them the same way we are about SF.

  88. Translation, how dare that no nothing first year coach bench me. I’m the great big bulging bi-cep kisser. I went to the super bowl thanks to a great defense and amazing running game. Can’t he see the value of a guy who can run like a gazelle, but read defenses like a kindergartner. Its not like I replaced someone who had chemistry with the WR and had the respect of all the O-line and I took full credit for the 2012 season. It’s not like the chemistry would translated into points during the first half of the super bowl. The fact I eye balled Michael Crabtree on the final play of both the Super Bowl and NFC Championship when both Veron Davis and Frank Gore were wide open doesn’t make me predictable or stupid. How dare he, I don’t need to step back and breath. I don’t need oxygen. I’m a legand in my own mind.

Alex Smith must be laughing his ass off right now. First a 45 to 10 blow out of the Lions, then this ass clown getting bench, must of put a smile on his face.

  89. Should have signed with the Chicago Cubs when they drafted him in the 2nd round! He left big money on the table in baseball and he’s obviously not cut out to be an NFL quarterback.

I hate this argument. Every QB needs a good defense or good team to win games. Unless you’re talking about a John Elway/Dan Marino type QB and good luck drafting one of them. They come along one or twice every other generation.

Troy Aikman needed a good team.
Joe Montana needed a good team.
Jim Kelly needed a good team.
Russell Wilson needs a good team.
Joe Flacco, Andrew Luck, my man Derek Carr need good teams.

What QB doesn’t need a good team around him to succeed???? Man that’s the craziest argument people come up with..”Kaepernick only did good because he had a good defense and running game..man GTFOH with that.

78.0 pass rating is worthy of benching? Then remind me why Cam Newton is still playing? Further, remind me why this site continues to tout Cam and his 78.0 passer rating as MVP worthy.

Cam Newton has a defense to carry him. But this is about the 49ers, not the Panthers. You want to whine about Cam Newton, go whine on a Panther thread.

Though, FWIW, I don’t think much of Newton, either. He’s another ‘highlight reel’ QB that can’t play the position with any consistency and is as likely to lose you a game as win one for you. Big, ESPN-Plays do not a great QB make. Heck, not even an average QB make.

  92. jmc8888 says:

Of course a QB with more time will have better numbers.

Not Kaepernick. His completion percentage when he throws under 2.6 seconds is 69.5%.

If it takes him 2.6 seconds, or longer, to pass, his completion percentage drops to 47.5%.

It’s like the more time he has, the worse he is.

  93. jvibottomline says:

This guy can play when he has offensive line play, it’s been horrible for two years

Not true. The 49ers o-line ranked 16th in pass-protection last year, giving up pressure just 33% of the time. This year they’re 16th and giving up pressure 36% of the time.

Both are NFL average. Where the line fell apart, was run blocking. Not pass-blocking where they have been average.

And while it is true that Kaepernick may get sacked a lot. But most of his sacks are holding the ball. Of the 52 sacks last year, 29 sacks happened after 3.5 seconds. And those are on the QB. He’s just too **** slow in the pocket and he holds the ball too long instead of throwing it away.

Bottom-line is that Kaepernick can’t handle the NFL with average pressure. And that is a problem.

Now, Russell Wilson… He averages 43% pressure. 46% this year. You don’t see him sucking, do you? No, you don”t. His entire career he’s never had less than 42% pressure and he’s thrived.

So, enough of blaming the line. Some QBs can handle pressure, some can’t. Then NFL figured out that Kaepernick can’t.

Re: Anthrax Scare At Levi stadium

San Francisco 49ers football practice was delayed nearly two hours today after a player reported finding an unknown white powdery substance on the field.

Coach Jim Tomsula immediately suspended practice while police and federal investigators were called to investigate.

After a complete analysis, FBI forensic experts determined that the white substance unknown to the players was the goal line.

Practice was resumed after special agents decided the team was unlikely to encounter the substance again

  95. If Kaepernick doesn’t understand why Tomsula benched him, that doesn’t speak well for Tomsula’s ability to communicate with his players. Tomsula should be able to explain to Kaepernick exactly why he made the decision to go to Gabbert.
    ———-

Ah no Mike, this is Tomsula trying to be nice and Kaepernick not taking a hint. Everyone is clear on why he is being benched.

  96. raiderlyfe510, anyone who puts hashtags in a post is a moron.

You don’t get it, do you? Kaepernick is a horrible quarterback who looked good surrounded by talented teammates. The other greats were great with talent around them. Kaepernick was simply good with greatness around him. It doesn’t take a lot of common sense to see what I am saying. What’s worse is how much hype has played into the mislabeling of a sub par quarterback. You bought the hype. Don’t be down on yourself though. A lot of other people let the media do their thinking for them as well, so you are not alone.

  97. It doesn’t matter what they say to the microphone – it’s what they say to each other inside the building. CK should keep his mouth shut and accept that the coach makes the call – and be aware that the call to bench him is a business decision. You don’t earn the right to start in the NFL in college or on draft night – you earn it on Sundays and in practice – so if CK wants his job back, well…
    Go 49ers!

  98. being a Texans fan cant cut on you too much about bad QB’s but CK lost his job to Blane Gabbert who really really bit with the Jags ,,,,

    Ouch

but hey he won so that is good

  99. RIGHT.

    ——————————————————-

Kaep has gotten considerably worse because he does not put in the time and tries to rely on ability alone. Being a good QB starts in the film room, it starts when you become a leader, not walk around with headphones on and being arrogant. that’s the difference between Kaep and the good QB’s in the league.
