NFL officials in Mexico City, seeing if it’s ready for 2016 game

As the NFL continues to expand its inventory in England, they’re also looking at games outside our borders but on our continent.

According to Albert Breer of the NFL Network, a group of league officials will be in Mexico City through Wednesday, trying to determine if Azteca Stadium is prepared to host a game in 2016.

League officials have long identified Mexico and Germany as the next two places they want to put international games.

The league has played in Azteca before, with the Cardinals and 49ers playing before a packed house of over 100,000 in 2005. If the Mexican stadium isn’t up to their standards this year, a game is 2017 is probably in the cards, as they continue to push the game outward a bit at a time.

  1. They better charge the same for ticket prices in a 2nd world country as they do in both 1st world countries they currently play in.

  2. Mexico and Germany for international games?
I guess the NFL figured out that giving away thousands of tickets for the Bills in Toronto series doesn’t exactly make Toronto an ideal location. Cue the list of excuses of why it didn’t work in Toronto, although those excuses don’t seem to be a problem in London…………….

  3. Maybe they can have the next Super Bowl in Baghdad while they are at it? This is insane.

  4. yippee..think I will cancel my NFL Package next year…with pieces of crap (Hardy, Talib to name a couple) on the field, poorly officiated games (hell, Mike Pereira said he doesn’t know what a catch is anymore…and you can see offensive holding on almost every play), and the length of the games (3.5 hrs to play a 1 hour game) I believe my life and my family will be better served by my reading about the games on-line…

  5. The NFL’s official slogan for this… Mexico: The new idea we’ll float to demonstrate London isn’t the absolute worst idea out there.

Not only is Mexico not particularly interested in American football (they’re as soccer-centric as England) but what percentage of the population could actually afford to attend an NFL game?

Says the fan of the bush league Toronto Argo’s who’s petrified of Toronto getting a big league team, because it would kill the Argos.

They were charging 500 bucks a pop for the Bills and Bucs and still managed 40,000+ people for two lousy clubs that didn’t belong here.
