Greg Hardy dubs himself “innocent until proven guilty”

AP

Just as the news cycle was moving on from the troubling photos obtained by Deadspin of Nicole Holder following her May 2014 encounter with him, Cowboys defensive end Greg Hardy has reminded his detractors why he continues to be the subject of national ridicule and scorn.

Via Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice.com, Hardy changed his Twitter bio to say this: “Innocent until proven guilty-lack of knowledge & information is just ignorance-the unjust/prejudicial treatment of diff categories of people is discrimination.”

It’s hard to reconcile Hardy’s recitation of Constitutional rights that he preserved by paying Holder an undisclosed sum of money so she wouldn’t show up to testify at his trial with his Twitter apology from Saturday night. Sure, when he said “I express my regret 4 what happened in past,” he wasn’t being specific. But what did he think people would believe he was expressing regret for?

Darin Gantt of PFT, who covered the Panthers for 14 years before joining this operation several years back, believes that Hardy views himself as a pro wrestler and revels in being regarded as a heel. With pro wrestling, however, everyone (well, almost everyone) knows it’s an act. With the NFL, people equate words and deeds with the assessment of a person’s character.

And that’s where Hardy has it completely wrong when he claims that he’s the victim of discrimination. There’s enough information about him in the public domain to allow reasonable persons to conclude that he’s a turd. Some may choose not to come to that conclusion, but those who do surely aren’t engaging in unfair discrimination. They’re merely reacting to the weight of the evidence that has made its way into the court of public opinion, and Hardy’s complete lack of self-awareness has only made that process easier.

Then again, maybe there’s a chance Hardy gets it, at least a little. He already has changed his Twitter bio again, to “Come with me Hail Mary Run quick see What do we have here now wana be my ride or die La la la la la la (SuperBlockParty).”

  1. He’s an idiot. He was convicted in a bench trial. He appealed and the victim took a settlement not to testify at his “DeNovo” trial; that is not the same as innocent!

  2. Hardy insists he’s the real “victim” … of discrimination (of course).

Hardy is not the only one to blame others for his own atrocities. Though different in degree, Hardy’s mindset is quite pervasive among many – who play the victim card (most frequently a “victim” of “discrimination”).

Not exactly a particularly honorable way to walk through life, is it?

  3. Ummm Greg, you were in fact found guilty. Your case was dismissed on appeal. You will never be proven innocent for this incident.

And where is the Cowboys PR team? Dez has a security team with him at all times. Jerry doesn’t have a guy that can take this idiots Twitter account away from him?

  4. “the unjust/prejudicial treatment of diff categories of people is discrimination.”.

No, you idiot. The fact that we point out you’re a sociopath who doesn’t have a single shred of decency, morals and conscience is NOT discrimation. It’s stating the obvious.

  5. Fortunately for you, you are innocent until proven guilty in the court of law, which is why you aren’t in jail.
Unfortunately for you, it is obvious to the court of people with functioning eyes, ears and brains that you are guilty.

  6. this guy will never get it; and will eventually do something else to place himself beyond even the enablers like skelator jones.

jerry richardson got rid of him despite the fact that he was a great player. his team is undefeated.

slimeball jerry picked him up, and he’s 2-6.

sounds like a little old fashioned karma goin round, as willie once sang….

  7. Silence would be such a good choice for the next few years. Be grateful that the NFL let you back in, and that winning is the ONLY thing to some owners/GM’s. smh

  8. Hey Greg, you were found guilty in the only trial you had. So you were innocent until proven guilty. Now that you have been proven guilty, you are just guilty.

  9. Human filth with no remorse.

He will beat or kill someone else it is only a matter of time, after which the league will be scrambling desperately to defend themselves against the civil suit they’ll be included in for enabling this guy.

  10. Where is NFL management, who is supposed to protect the image of the league? Show some courage and reinstitute the original suspension for this idiot

  11. You would think that someone around him could tell him to shut it down, take your medicine and allow people to forget about you for a couple months. He just keeps making it worse.

  12. There are people that hate the cowboys because they were great and dominant at one time.

Then there are a large number of people that aren’t old enough to remember way back when the cowboys were great and dominate. All they are familiar is with the dallas cheerleaders (love them) and a team that, while they has been mediocre to bad most of their lives, continues to get more attention than teams like the titans or jaquars who have had arguably more success than the cowboys during their lifetime.

Why do the cowboys still get the attention they do even though any success they ever had on the field was so very long ago? Because they have a senile owner with Tourette Syndrome and they go out of their way to employee dirtbag’s like Gregg Hardy.

When Jerry said Hardy was a “team leader” he was speaking the absolute truth

  13. Its a shame that Hardy got a second chance and Rice did not.

Hardy will forever deny his actions. Meanwhile Ray Rice continues to champion for domestic abuse support and likely will for the rest of his life.

  14. What a sad and sorry manchild this clown is. Acting like a naughty 3 year old, attention for the wrong reason is better than not enough attention. Infantile. His 15 minutes can’t be up soon enough

  15. Wait wasn’t he found guilty by that Judge in North Carolina. Then he got off on a loop hole when his ex decided not to show up to court, to the rumors that he paid her off. Point being he needs to shut up delete his twitter account and just play ball.

  16. Deep down, Hardy is a good guy. Ya’ll just gotta back off and give him some room to breathe. He’ll settle down and stop beating up women … eventually. Just be patient with him.

  17. The new Twitter bio is comprised of lyrics from a 2Pac song called “Hail Mary.” The next line? “I ain’t a killer, but don’t push me.” I’m not even kidding. Google the lyrics.

  18. “There’s enough information about him in the public domain to allow reasonable persons to conclude that he’s a turd. ”

Favorite sentence written on PFT, ever.

Also, the Eagles beat Hardy like he beat…..well, you know. #Turd

  19. So now he’s claiming that he’s innocent? And that the public is in the wrong for “discriminating” against him?? Wow. I’d say he’s got brass balls but in reality he’s just a complete & total scumbag/idiot who just happened to win the genetic lottery with his football abilities. I’m surprised good ole Jerry Jones is dragging his feet with that extension; I mean this guy is obviously such a “well respected leader” and all.
    What. A. Joke.

  21. With all the bad ‘Karma’ and Publicity he as brought to the Cowboys…it would not surprise if JJ found a way to ease out of this relationship when the Season is over.

  22. Dude, you bought your innocence! Did those bruises on your girlfriend while at your residence just appear out of no where?
The stigma of being a woman beater will not simply go away because you pay someone off.

  23. This ‘guy’ is such a clown! Jerry Jones is a despicable owner for employing him. Not only does he beat women, he also has no remorse and plays soft on Sunday’s. The Panthers surely aren’t missing him. To top it all off, Nelly took his girl! Haha loser!

  24. Actually that is the same as Innocent in NC. Hardy is definitely a DB.. but doesn’t make him guilty of anything. Just because you see pictures of bruising.. doesn’t mean he put them there. There is a lot more to this story that should have been told but just because it wasn’t.. doesn’t mean he is guilty. I live in Charlotte where all this played out and have 3 daughters of my own so i agree with your feelings about Hardy.. but doesn’t make him guilty of anything. I am glad he is a Jerry Jones problem for sure.

  25. That’s Tupac ‘Hail Mary’.

    The next line is:

    I ain’t a killer but don’t push me,
Revenge is the sweetest join next to getting _____

The guy doesn’t get it, but is surely reveling in the attention.

  26. Hardy is a turd. However there is nothing the league can do to him for this specific incident since they’very already suspended him once. They tried to suspend Rice a second time after public outrage over his 2 game suspension and got smacked down in court.

As for Jones cutting him I believe the CBA prevents a team from penalizing a player for the same infraction in which the league has penalized him.

I don’t know why there’s this second round of outrage. The original police report and trial testimony pretty much matches up with what the pictures show. I get it people are justifiably mad. But this is real life. In real life bad people get away with doing bad things sometimes.

In any case short of boycotting Cowboys games, and those that advertise with them there’s nothing anyone can do. Jones has always given troubled talented players second chances and he has always backed them up.

  27. This man is not worth the print…but by keeping him in the news… we can keep a focus on this idiot and help raise our efforts to prevent jerks like him from doing the things to a woman that he did and getting away with it.

You will answer Mr. Hardy.. if not in this world then in the next for sure…..

You can bet there will be no over looking your actions because of your football talents… when the time comes.

  28. yeah….we all knew that “regret 4 what happened” was real sincere.

clearly this guy has no conscience. otherwise he’d keep his mouth shut and try to fly under the radar.

I’m still trying to figure out Jerry’s “second chance” argument. if Hardy is not guilty, then for what does he need a second chance?

  29. Jerry signed Hardy because winning a SB was/is more important to him than life itself. Wouldn’t it be so Jerry Jones to cut Hardy once the Cowboys are officially eliminated from the playoffs and then try and claim that he did it because of Hardy’s past and how the cowboys are a class operation and it was the moral and ethical thing to do.

  30. Come on…The Cowboys SHOULD just deactivate or suspend the guy for the remainder of the season. It’s straight up being stubborn at this point to keep him in a uniform on the sidelines for a 2-6 team. There is a high probability that they will not win 8 straight to win the division, and there are several others ahead of them for the wildcard spots. Give up, Jerry. Admit you were wrong and do the right thing. Suspend the guy, or deactivate him for conduct detrimental to the team – and make him do what he should have done when the case was dismissed – seek counseling, get help, do more work in the community. Talk to Mike Vick, Michael Irvin, Chris Carter, Ray Lewis – somebody to help get on a better path. Own what you did, apologize like a man, take steps to fix yourself, and never be in this situation again. The world loves a comeback story – give them one.

  31. I am a true Cowboys fan and I think this guy needs a psychiatric eval and should not have the privilege to play in the NFL until he gets 100% right. There is NO excuse for beating a woman. Whether a woman starts it or not. Being married 25 years my wife has swung at me a bunch of times and I NEVER thought about reta It will just be a matter of time before he goes off the handle again and hurts someone else. All you can hope for is that he doesn’t end up killing someone.

  32. It’s quite obvious he beat her up… look at the pictures. A huge muscular pro athlete vs a woman… what a clown. Shame on the Cowboys for signing this fool. Karma is a 6+ week losing streak.

  33. Mr. Hardy you are guilty as sin and you know it.. Roger Goodell knows it… Jerry Jones knows it…
but since you have lots of money you were able to pay off your victim so you basically paid your way out of prison. You are a disgrace as is the team that ignored the fact that you are a animal also is. If you for some poor guy without the ability to pay off your victim you would be rotting in prison where you belong.

  34. Hardy is correct, still no word about banning Johnny Manziel from the NFL. If these pictures are so damning the jury trial should have been a slam dunk. Did Hardy pay off the Charlotte prosecutor or is there some doubt about his guilt. The pictures show a white woman with lots bruising but not a woman that was beaten by a 275lb beast for an hour.
This woman’s first move was to hire a civil attorney and the cash a big check and go shopping in New York, Denver, Atlanta and Paris.
    Classic golddigger move.

  35. What is the message this idiot is trying to get out with his face paint, it is different every game. Don’t tell me he is a worrier, that would be an insult to our military. GH is a menace to society .

  36. Doesn’t get it. Never will. Will be arrested for some form of assault within a year or two and will end up going to jail claiming that one was some big misunderstanding, too.

  37. What’s hilarious is, Jerruh sold his sole to bring this cretin in, with the idea that he was a missing piece… and they haven’t won since he’s started playing.

Couldn’t happen to a more overrated franchise… one that hasn’t been relevant, or won a damn thing, in 20-25 years.

  38. Duffman1901-don’t think Chris Carter, who ESPN just revealed had an affair with a married ESPN makeup artist & Ray Lewis who got away with murder are 2 people he should be talking to!

  39. The guy is a moron.. Go Bucs!! Seven losses in a row coming up!! Love those shots of Jerry, sitting there with that blank stare on his face as his pride and joy loses again and again and again… Lol 🙂

  40. Did he go to college at Missouri? Those clowns seem to equate their hurt feelings as discrimination.

  41. Didn’t a judge in North Carolina already say he was guilty? Paying someone off and getting off on appeal when they don’t show up is hardly innocence

  42. The only thing Hardy is innocent of is having any brains. He is a punk and belongs in a cell, not an NFL locker room.

  43. jmdanieli – yeah, maybe the examples were a bit off, but he needs guidance. As much as people want to throw stones, and as awful as the situation is/was, dude’s a human being who OBVIOUSLY made a mistake. He’ll forever live with it, and it’s up to him regarding how to move forward. He can take some steps to help fix the PR damage, but the truth is only he can decide to ACTUALLY learn from what he did and accept it. OR like so many others have said, maybe he’s too immature to deal with any of this and won’t learn anything and next time it’ll be worse. My two cents is to just have him step away, get some help – real help, and re-evaluate his personality in the future. I understand the uproar from the public domain, but I think everyone needs to put down the pitchforks and torches.

Even Pac doesn’t want this clown listening to his music.

  45. You can say that until the cows come home, Greg.

It won’t change the fact that you are a modern day leper and deservedly so.

  46. This guy is beyond disgusting. It is it terribly difficult for victims of domestic abuse to come forward and this guy just makes it that much more difficult. It’s a problem with today’s society. I wish she hadn’t taken the money, but I don’t blame her. Money can give her independence from him and set her up for the rest of her life(assuming the amount was quite large). This dumbass deserves to rot though. It just shows that, again, if you have money and/or are an elite athlete, you can get away with anything. Sad really.

  47. Ray Rice is truly remorseful and trying to make a difference in raising DV awareness and can’t find a job and somehow this guy is considered a “leader”.

  48. The attack was horrible in an of itself. But his apparent complete lack of ANY remorse is just horrifying.

How can he be so stupid? How the could he Cowboys been so stupid. All they had to do was call a press conference, write a script for Hardy to parrot, and 80% of the outrage would have vanished to 2nd chance heaven.

Instead he is allowed to make matters worse every time he opens his mouth. The man is a sociopath who truly thinks he did nothing wrong, and hates the world for judging him.

At some point Jerry Jones is going to have to decide if Greg Hardy is the last legacy he wants to leave as he starts to leave as an active owner. Defending the indefensible is not a good look.

  49. A few things to clear up:

    1) The court of public opinion does not need to be convinced beyond a reasonable doubt.

    2) Not Convicted and Not Guilty are not the same thing.

    3) It is unreasonable to assume that being a great athlete means that he is an intelligent or well adjusted person.

    4) Ray Rice would have been given the same chance if he was 25 and at his peak.

    5) Every team in the league makes a risk reward analysis on every player they sign. The more impactful the player, the higher the accepted risk.

  50. He was found guilty but lawyered up and paid out a ton of money over his own stupidity. This guy is an accident looking for a place to happen and does not belong in the NFL but try telling that to Jerruh Jones.

  51. Hardy is trash and the pile gets larger each time he opens his mouth, to call him an idiot makes other idiots look bad.
Even worse to me is that sick number 28 still playing in Minny…..while spouse abuse is beyond ugly, what Peterson did to that defenceless child is sickening and if there was video of that deal I am sure he would still be hiding in a buddy’s basement somewhere.

  52. Now all he needs to do is sue the living hell out of Deadspin/Gawker. I don’t like Hardy, necessarily, but if it requires evil to take down evil, so be it.

  53. Of course he’s innocent until proven guilty. But it’s hard to prove someone guilty when he bought-off the only witness who could testify against him.

  54. Goodell doesn’t think beating a woman is a serious issue. In fact he went out of his way to say what a great guy Ray Rice is. A lawyer felt Tom Brady may have had a part in footballs losing some air and Goodell crucified Brady. Does anyone else feel Goodell is tone deaf as to what it means to protect the shield?

  55. uh huh…..just keep telling youirself that….oj keeps telling himself if the glove does not fit, you must acquit

  56. Greggy’s face paint is supposed to represent the Kraken. You know, the giant squidward coming out of the lake in that Geico commercial.

  57. Now he’s plagiarizing songs!!, this Hardy guys gets worse every week!!, well at least he left the racist word that come right before “run quick see” out. So I guess he’s learning.. (2-pac btw) — SARCASM

How bout we don’t cover him at all, and just let the idiot dig his own hole. He clearly will, and hopefully some poor girl doesn’t get hurt/killed in the process. Let him…be himself, and he’ll work his way right outta the league. He’s over rated anyhow, physical beast, certainly a good player, but, stays in half-a** shape all year and often the time his play declines as the game moves forward, and he takes plays off when a legit OT starts getting the better of him.

  59. What I find even more troubling than what Hardy did, is why so many of you even care. Social media and the delusion that everybody needs to have a public opinion is ruining this nation one day at a time. It’s so sad.

  60. And what is the big deal now? case was dropped and expunged, can’t you all leave the guy be? geez there’s more then a half a dozen NFL players who have been arrested and accused of DV, and they are still playing with their teams, till this moment, why is it such a big deal with this guy? has he beaten you or any of your family members? damned it leave it alone…

  61. What an absolute scum of a person. He is a perfect fit for that loser franchise. Because checks a loser. And they are losers

  62. A jury in North Carolina CONVICTED Greg Hardy, his defense lawyer appealed, and prior to the case going to appeal, the victim accepted a settlement to make the case go away. Sorry pal, but you were, in fact, proven guilty. #GoPanthers

If people didn’t care and stand up to what is wrong we would still be British.

The Germans would have won the War

    There would still be slavery

Civil discourse, and disobedience when necessary are the foundation of the constitution and our country!

    This is why we vote

    why we fight wars

The fact that you take for granted both your voice and others is quite troubling sir.

  65. Anyone who has actually read into the case and not the headlines would understand that Nicole Holders credibility quickly came into question based on her background. Cases are pursued by the state every day when victims aren’t willing to cooperate. The state of NC determined that her story wasn’t adding up. This was the most important factor into the case being expunged, not so much the fact that signs pointed to a settlement.

  67. integrity…..welcome to Roger Goodell’s NFL.

NFLPA should offer amendments to CBA to handle domestic violence, convicted or not. They would have the upper hand.

  68. What’s the over/under in years on how long after his playing days are over that this ogre ends up living the life of a prison inmate? Actually I don’t think he will last until his usefulness as an NFL player is over. He’s a bad human being to his core. Matter of when, not if.

You talk about Gantt in Carolina as if Hardy played there for 10 seasons
    _____
Carolina drafted Hardy and including his paid year off, he was here for 5 years. Putting aside the 2014 incident, if anyone wanted to know if he had a few screws loose, we in Carolina could have told you in advance. He is WAAAAY out there. He drove his Bentley 100 mph, and tweeted a photo of the speedometer while doing so. He also rode a motorcycle at high speeds on a rain-drenched highway wearing no protective equipment.

Those of us who have defended him in the past do know he is off his rocker. But the first step in fixing a problem is admitting you have one. I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for such an admission from Hardy.

You still enjoying this, Jerry? #IWantMeSomeGloryHole

You should actually read the transcripts and stop letting the media spoon feed its “facts”. There is no evidence that the drunk coked-up gold digger was paid off. However, there is evidence that her story did not match the evidence – hence charges dropped.

  74. This guy should be thrown out of the NFL
The NFL mkes no sense. They fine the guy on the Steelers for wearing purple cleats to honour his mom who died of domestic violence and Gary Hardy gets away with wife beating. He is a wife beating turd.
