Report: Johnny Manziel expected to start this week

AP

Browns coach Mike Pettine has kept his quarterback decision this week to himself, but word has gotten out.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Johnny Manziel is expected to start this week in place of Josh McCown.

McCown has been limited in practice this week with his rib injury, and it might be as simple as his not being well enough to play effectively.

But with the Browns heading nowhere, there’s also a reasonable temptation to see if Manziel can play or not, or whether his height will be the thing that holds him back.

  1. Good to see this young man trying to get back on track and not cheating his way to victory like the boston skidmarks

  2. Good luck Johnny! Lots of haters want to see you fail. REAL Browns fans want the best for you and our team. Show ’em what you can do.

  3. Brown management is so confused. This should be a no brainer decision. This season is lost so why not see what you have with Manzel. I it is determined he is not capable of “Brown Management style” perhaps he will show enough to be traded to someone else. With this management team I guess it doesn’t really matter though.

  4. I know you hypocrites won’t bring this up, but I will.

“He’s like, he hit me a couple times,” she can be heard telling police in the dash cam video. “While you were in the car?” the officer responded. “Yes, but please don’t make that…please don’t,” she begged, insinuating that she he did in fact strike her, but she didn’t want that information to get out

Now call him an animal and demand he be banned from the league or is Greg Hardy right.

  5. mikermiker.. What?? You sound like nothing more than a butt hurt and jealous moron. That’s by far the most idiotic comment I’ve read today. Loser.. 🙂

  6. Announces Friday after McCown went limited with 1s that he won’t play. This thrusting Manziel into another short week. I’m not going to sit here and say this kid can play football, but you can’t sit there and tell me he can’t until he gets AT LEAST a full week of prep. He did vs the Titans and won 1 of 2 games Cleveland has one all year, and made really good reads. Of course he missed some but how’s he learn to correct on the bench? That’s not who he is. Give the kid a chance to succeed instead of abusing him like a rented mule. Especially with his notoriety when you drafted him. Get real. There’s no short term success with this team, and there’s no long success by keeping Manziel on the bench anymore. The time is now. Can. He. Play?

  7. thumbs up

Renting room in your feeble mind is nice to know.

Oh, and good luck in Pitt. Johnny. Hope he pulls off the mild shocker with Ben out.

  9. If Johnny Manziel is a “shorty” (Six-Foot-0), then Russell Wilson is a “shorty-er” (5-Foot-10 & 3/4) hahaha

  10. Hopefully DeFillippo and Johnny tell Pettine to shove it and let Johnny do what Johnny does best.

Pettine already proved what an idiot he was on National TV by making Johnny stay in the pocket in the 2nd half after Johnny led a 92 yard TD drive against the Bengals at the end of the 1st half.

Pettine is a loser that wants Johnny to fail. Pettine should take a look in the mirror to why this team is so inept. They are undisciplined, that’s coaching, the amount of penalties this team commits are Pettine’s fault, as well as the players, but the blame goes on Pettine for not making them correct their mistakes.

This guy runs his mouth and criticizes his players, maybe they should turn the tables on him and start calling him out in the media. This guy doesnt know football and he cant even fix the defense, his own flippin defense and he has no asnwers, ever.

  11. Should have kept Weeden, they wouldn’t be in this mess now and they’d have a better team around him and probably a winning record

This guy is getting a ton of second chances – maybe more than he deserves given the domestic violence charges – but it’d still be nice to see him fully turn things around

  15. Battle of the young back-ups.

Manziel, the flashy, $$$, hard living, hard playing
    unpredictable and controversial outlaw….
    … vs …
Landry Jones – the humble, flannel shirt wearing,
reliable, unassuming, devout, quiet young man –
who better not forget his credentials, lest he be
    turned away at the stadium.

It’ll be interesting to see which one makes
the plays, and which one folds under the pressure.

  16. Landry Jones isn’t very good you know. He’s better than Vick but that’s not saying much. The Browns missing Whitner and Haden won’t matter too much because Landry is only going to throw short or mid-range passes most of the day anyways. It’s all on the D-Line and the Linebackers how the game goes for the Brownies.

Oh, and if they could stop the run or at least slow it down that would be a BIG help.
