“Beat Green Bay” shirts greet Vikings upon return to Minnesota

The Vikings improved to 7-2 and moved into sole possession of first place in the NFC North with Sunday’s 30-14 win in Oakland, but they got a clear message that there wasn’t a lot of time to revel in that win when they reported to the team facility on Monday.

Players got to their lockers to find t-shirts with the NFC logo and “North” on the front and “Beat Green Bay” on the back waiting for them. The Vikings and Packers will meet in Minneapolis next Sunday afternoon in a game that will have much to do with how the division race plays out this season. A Vikings win would put them two games and a tiebreaker up on the Packers and give Green Bay a fourth-straight loss in a season that’s taken a wrong turn of late.

While defensive end Brian Robison said he didn’t need a shirt to provide a reminder of what’s at stake this week, rookie wide receiver Stefon Diggs appreciated the reminder that the Vikings can’t start patting themselves on the back after nine games.

“[It is] not so much this game, but … what we got going on and how much more serious this is about to get,” Diggs said, via the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “Of course it’s going to be a serious game. Of course coach is going to be even tighter this week to keep at it. Our record and what we’re doing right now, you can’t take a break and lighten up. You gotta continue to grind and grind even harder to be honest.”

The Vikings are 1-9-1 against the Packers since the start of the 2010 season, so, even with the Packers stuck in a rut of late, it will likely take more than sartorial choices to get a victory this time around.

  1. Unless the Vikings completely implode from here on out it’s Mike Zimmer as Coach of the Year and no one else is really even in the conversation.

  2. Not a fan of either team but I’m surprised the Vikings are 1-9-1 since 2010 against the Packers. Listening to their fans on these message boards you would’ve thought it was the other way around for sure.

  3. If the Packers get that train wreck back on the tracks, heads up, best game against best game, the Packers win. If Green Bay shows up flat and doesn’t execute the plays they practice all week, the Vikings will crush them. That is what it boils down to this week.

  4. Ron Rivera isn’t “even in the conversation”? Or Marvin Lewis? Or Belichick, for that matter?

You think going undefeated is easy? Have you taken a look at the Patriots’ offensive line recently?

  5. The past is the past. Now is the future. Aaron is starting to show his age and his coach hasn’t been right since the Denver debacle!

  6. Just another game IMO. I was excited for this game at the beginning of the year and I still would be if Green Bay wasn’t horrible. Both of these teams will be in the playoffs because the NFC is terrible.

If the Vikings win this, like I expect them to, the big game on the schedule becomes the Cardinals.

  7. Those shirts should have read “Win the NFC North”. Beating Green Bay isn’t enough.

Detroit just beat Green Bay, and that is going to be the highlight of the Lions’ 2015 season. The Vikings should aim higher than that.

Wrong. The coaches of the 3 teams that are 2 games better than the Vikings are also in the conversation. Don’t overload on that purple Kool-Aid. #SKOAL

  9. The rivalry goes much further back than 2010, Jhein23. Prior to that year it was hanging right around the .500 mark for both teams and went back and forth in each other’s favor. The Vikings have been on a slide for a few years and they are ready to go on a run to reclaim the upper hand in the series. Then again, you’re likely just a Packer troll and know all this already. SKOL!!!

  10. The Purple Reign has begun.

The greatest sports franchise is going to steamroll to SB 50.

For those of you who grouse about Peterson’s arrest, get over it. We Viking fans have. It’s about football.

Beat Green Bay on Sunday. Parade in downtown Minneapolis on Monday to celebrate the grand victory.

    It begins.

  11. If thee Pack thinks they got manhandled by the Denver defense, wait until they run into the # 2 defense in the league!

  12. Biggest game for the Vikings in a long time. GB has seen plenty of big games, sometimes that’s the difference. Should be a good one. I think it will be tight the whole way.

  13. Packer Nation is awfully quiet today. Losing at home to the nothing-to-play-for Lions, who just canned everybody but the head coach, will do that to you.

    Bring it!

  14. The Vikings are gearing up for their bi-annual Super Bowl again. Packers and 30 other teams focus going into the season: win the Super Bowl. The Vikings focus going into the season: beat the packers.

  15. Oh man, reading the headline I thought they were selling them to fans, or a fan had created them and fans were wearing them around town. Not a good look for NFL players to be sporting these.

The only thing they’ll have after this game are t-shirts after they get crushed by 40.

Haha, funny, GB couldn’t even get to 20 playing at home against Detroit. Let that sink in……yeah, it’s that bad.

  17. two mediocre teams. If Green Bay plays like they have the last several weeks they couldn’t been the top college teams. And how serious can you take a team that looks like Barney.

  18. “The Vikings are 1-9-1 against the Packers since the start of the 2010 season.” – This ain’t your Childress/Frazier Vikings any more.

  19. Zimmer knows that this game matters more than any other game they play this year because whoever wins the game will have the inside track on the division title. If they let the Packers beat them at home, they’ll have a hard time catching them because of each team’s schedule. If they take a 2-game lead with the tiebreaker in hand, it would be tough to blow it. I love that he isn’t letting anyone rest on their laurels (whatever “laurels” are). Just keep winning.

  20. The Vikings are 1-9-1 against the Packers since the start of the 2010 season, so, even with the Packers stuck in a rut of late, it will likely take more than sartorial choices to get a victory this time around.

So? The Lions just ended a 25 game losing streak at lambeau. What does the past have anything to do with today? Im sure packer fans think the past has anything to do with today…but today is today, not yesterday and the Vikings know it.

    SKOL!

    It’s basically their Superbowl.
    ________

I hope you mean it’s the Packers’ Super Bowl (two words) because they are done if they don’t start to turn things around.

The team in first place has their sights set a little higher than just beating the team in second place.

  22. Should be a good one. I know you don’t want it, but here is a little free advice:

Tone it down a bit. I know first place is a little unfamiliar to you, but you are in for a huge letdown if the Packers win this one……..which everyone knows they are capable of doing.

They may have come off the tracks the last few weeks, but their first six games were not filled with lucky bounces or fortunate penalties or lack thereof, or missed kicks by the opposition, etc.

How is Denver “The Unvanquished” doing since the Packer beatdown? See what I mean?

Enjoy the excitement of your young aggressive team and keep your enthusiasm. But you will regret it if you strongly spout off about how great you are “going to be.” Those are some pretty famous last words. .

  26. Thanks for the free advice, stellar, but we haven’t had a lot of opportunities to be excited about our team in recent years so we’d appreciate it if you’d just let us enjoy it. I’ve never understood why Packer fans take it so personally when Viking fans show optimism.

  27. True, the Packers last three games have been bad for a team with a reputation for being better than this. And that’s the thing. Perhaps they will be later on this year. Too early to count out the Packers. Ever since the Favre era, they have been SB contenders when before that, they were not.
I’m not ready to give up hope on them yet. That is what a fan does.

  28. Pack wins 35-17. Put it in your calendar. Call your bookie. You heard it here first. I’ll admit that the Pack has looked terrible lately but in reality we have more talent on our practice squad than the Vikes field from week to week. The NFC North runs through Green Bay. Period.

December 30th of 2012 isn’t that long ago. It was a night game – the very last regular season game of the 2012 season.

The mighty Packers were playing for the opportunity to earn a first round bye in the playoffs.

The Vikings were playing for the opportunity to earn a Wild Card playoff berth.

The Packers were favored to win.

Christian Ponder led the Vikings to 37 – 34 victory, throwing for 3 TD’s in that game.

Hilarious. I’m still waiting on the Raiders to score 35 on the Vikings. Their offense is a lot more prolific than the Packers and they didn’t even get halfway there.

The Packers offense was shut down by a Lions defense with back up corners. And mostly unrecognizable guys. This will likely resemble the Packers/Broncos game except I’ll say Aaron passes for over 100 yards simply because of the prevent the Vikings go into when the game is or of reach.

I’ll go with 34-13, Vikings win.

Point taken but I’m pretty sure “conventional wisdom” in July didn’t have the Panthers, Bengals, or Patriots struggling to win more than 4 games or finishing any better than 3rd in their division this year, either.

Obviously if any of those teams winds up undefeated then the field opens up but as of now I don’t see that happening.

    ==================================
They’re the same height, Rodgers has about 10 lbs. on him.

And stat wise Rodgers dwarfs Bridgewater. Even though Rodgers is having one of his lesser seasons,
    he has 21 TD’s and 3 INT’s while Bridgewater has 7 TD’s and 6 INT’s and is over 450 yards behind Rodgers.

There’s no comparison between the two.

  37. Unfortunately, when the Vikings win on Sunday, they still won’t be able to say they’ve beaten anybody…will have to wait for the Cardinal game I guess.

  38. Wow…you guys are up one game and you are already talking SB, coach of the year, packers are horrible, etc. Act like you’ve been there before….

  40. Queens, queens, queens….props on putting together a nice run…..welcome back to the big leagues…..get your pig tails dry cleaned, put on your best purple outfit and let’s do it where it counts….on a field outside!

  41. Anyone who thinks this isn’t going to be a beatdown is plain foolish. What the pack fans dont understand the vikes are going to be the top dog for a long time. the packers are on that downward spiral. They have no talent, no draft picks, no special skill players.

  42. If we want to take the North we need to beat Green Bay. Plain and simple. They won’t come out flat against us. They’re pissed that they’ve lost 3 in a row.

True. Aaron Rodgers is the ideal quarterback if everything else on the offense, and team, is perfect. Good defense? Receivers getting separation? Deep threat? Screens open? Solid blocking? Running game working? Then Aaron Rodgers is your man.

But when things aren’t perfect around him, say the 2015 season for example, then no thanks. Run game lackluster? Need to make your receivers better? Constantly avoiding unblocked bliters? Rodgers is not your man. That’s when you need a leader with a surplus of poise.

Okay now I don’t mind some of the comments here from GB fans but yours is absolutely ridiculous. What talent do you have other than Rodgers, Matthews and Cobb? Let’s be real. The Packers are still in my opinion better until the Vikings can prove they can beat them. However, you can’t say the Packers as a team have more talent than the Vikings. Truth is Vikings win as a team. Packers win because of Aaron Rodgers. Period! Where would the Packers be without Rodgers? Maybe 2-7 right now if they were lucky? But the Vikings have a far less talented QB and they are 7-2. The Viking defense and special teams are many times better than the Packers. The only difference is having an elite QB such as Rodgers.

  49. Why can Packers fans called Adrian Peterson a child beater, and I can’t say Aaron Rodgers is a feminine hygiene product?

If its true for one, its true for both….

  50. Seriously…..Pack fans(Including Frank Booth) get so offended when Vikings fans are optimistic and excited on here. Why? Do they hold the corner on smack talk and team optimism? Who cares if there is outrageous comments and claims….its supposed to be fun. Stop taking yourselves so serious. This will be a good game but I think the Vikings vastly superior defense gives them the edge. #12 can only do so much by himself…..and #52 has been AWFULLY quiet this year.

  51. While it’s possible the Vikes win the NFCN, consider they’ve beaten nobody yet. And even if they do beat GB, which is in full decline, still doesn’t mean much. Their benchmark games are still ahead on the schedule, so we’ll see.

    =================================
I thought you were smarter than this.

What Teddy did in his first season compared to what Rodgers did in his 4th couldn’t be more irrelevant.

And Teddy has done very little to help his team win this year. If you watch the games at all, this is AP and the defense, and some pretty good special teams at times.

Peyton Manning had 3 wins in his first year.

Steve Young played in only 5 games in his first season, won 1, and didn’t become a full time starter until his 7th or 8th season.

Robert Griffin won 9 in his first year and took his team to the playoffs. What’s he doing now?

When Teddy starts putting together a body of work that includes winning seasons, playoff appearances, and a consistent level of high achievement, you can start comparing him to upper echelon QB’s.

Also, if you’re going to compare Bridgewater and Rodgers season-to-season, you left out last year.

    Good try, though.

    Actually not.

  54. Rodgers has a Superbowl win. That’s where Teddy wants to be. Only, the Vikings team assembled around Teddy certainly seems to be a lot better than anything Rodgers has had, so I’m hoping for rings for more than one finger.

  55. I’ve gone on record as guaranteeing a win against the Packers and even I’m embarrassed by some of the bush league comments by my fellow vike fans. Let’s act like we’ve been here before, gentlemen.

  56. Like I said before, lots of conclusion jumping occurring on both sides of the MN/WI aisle. Something Bud Grant always said after a big win probably applies to last Sunday’s Vikes win and Pack loss: “we’re probably not that good, and the other team probably isn’t that bad”.

It’s just fun as hell to be relevant again halfway through the season, and even better that the Vikes are a bit more relevant than expected. Still have quite a few very tough games ahead.

  57. Here is a fun factoid Minnesooooota fans, regardless of the outcome in which GB will dominate, the queens still have never won a championship and never will, now excuse me as I believe I see a little spot on one of the four Super Bowl trophies in our championship case.

I don’t know about all that. They would both be tied at 7-3 if the Vikings lose. It would greatly help if they won, but it’s not that simple. ************************************************

Teddy started in his first year in the NFL – taking over a team that was 5 – 10 – 1 the previous season.

Rodgers rode the pine for three seasons and took over a team that made the NFC Championship the year before.

Teddy led his team to 6 wins in 12 starts.

Rodgers led his team to 6 wins in 16 starts – and it was the largest single season reversal in Packers history (13 – 3 to 6 – 10).

That’s first year starting to first year starting. I thought that was relatively fair – even though Rodgers got three extra years to prepare.

I thought you were capable of reading and comprehending that simple fact.

get Bitch Slapped 3 weeks in a row, the last one by the worst team in the League! And you still have the gall to talk smack..
It is going to be SO MUCH FUN watching Zimmer’s
Vikings Grind you into the turf, then beat you so bad you wont need cups for the rest of this season!
Packers just might go 6-10 this year!
You heard it here! The Vikings Neuter the Packers this Sunday!

  71. Packer fans think the last 10 games are some huge indicator of what’s going to happen this Sunday. It’s not. The only thing that matters is that the Vikings upswing and Packers demise are ahead of schedule
    ————————————————

You realize you’re talking about the same Packers “fans” that thought the last 25 games mattered last Sunday, don’t you?

  72. I love the argument “they haven’t played anybody”. Well I can think of 7 teams that the Vikings beat. I can only think of 6 teams that the packers beat. Packer fans can you help me out?

Here is a fun factoid Minnesooooota fans, regardless of the outcome in which GB will dominate, the queens still have never won a championship and never will, now excuse me as I believe I see a little spot on one of the four Super Bowl trophies in our championship case.
That wasn’t nice was it, Boom goes the dynamite!
    ====================================
The NFL is all about TODAY and THIS SEASON!
What you are mentioning are Old Men sitting at the Bar talking about how good they WERE,,
    Last season is NOTHING!
See ya when we rip your heart out.. by the time we meet the last game of the year, we will be playing the Ball boys and Bus Drivers..
You will go out like last year WINDED DOGS!

  74. Here is the scoop the packers are only a 1 point dog ??? This team has been playing the worst football in the nfl for weeks now ..

Vikings are a good team that really needs to chill out. A playoff team yes, not a contender with that quarterback at the helm.. A good team will make bridgewater beat you.

Vikings it is not really a big accomplishment if you win this Sunday, heck the packers can’t beat the lions at home .

Now beat the cardinals , panthers patriots, Cincinnati then you can flap your gums

  75. I can’t believe anyone still says “Boom goes the dynamite” in 2015? It was lame when it first started, and worse now…

  76. Viking fans on AP, a self-admitted child abuser: “He’s done his time and deserves another chance.”

Viking fans on Letroy Guion, whose prosecutor dropped domestic violence charges against him: “He is a domestic abuser, and Packer fans were cheering for him, because they only care what he does on the field.”

See what’s wrong with this picture?

I seem to remember when many said GB would have the division locked up by the end of October and the Vikings would be cellar dwellers by the same time.

How is that working out for you.

    Never say never…….

  79. I have been telling the trolls since after the draft last spring. That this game was coming and the packer trolls aren’t going to like it this year at the Bank.

Right. Except that Vikings’ fans say this stuff each year. Obviously, you’re going to be right at some point.

And when it finally happens after a couple of years of unfilled predictions, you get the old, “I told you so”.

    Save it.

  81. Coach Zimmer: Its not where you play, its how you play.

The Packers have played like entitled children, who expect success handed to them because they are the Packers and because they have Aaron Rogers. They sound a lot like their fanbase.

The Vikings have played like men, who understand no single player will win the day. They have reason to be confident in their coach’s preparation and gameplan.

I expect there will be a whole lot of nothing posted by the Packer Troll contingent on PFT this Sunday afternoon.

  82. Before all you Vikings fans get too excited about next Sunday, The previously undefeated Bengals just got beat by the 3-5 now 4-5 Texans. At home no less. All their tiger growls didn’t help them at all. Any given…well Monday. I have a feeling you all are about due for a major let down. But until then go blow your stupid horns.

  83. Packers are definitely slumping, but I would never count out a Rodgers-led team. The dude is just really, really good. The last few games though, he just hasn’t looked right. I think he’s either hurt, or he’s lost faith in his o-line, or perhaps a little bit of both. He seems very uncomfortable in the pocket and is looking at the pass rush alot more, and sooner, than I ever remember. If Rodgers figures it out this week, he’s good enough to carry the Packers to a win, If not, Vikes win.

  84. Fred1952
May I ask what Viking fan has said they are Super Bowl bound? Other than maybe the delusional PFTPoet. Trash talk is trash talk.
    000000000000000000

PFTPOET is a packer fan trying to be funny. I know of no Vikings fan that has talked SB since ’09.

frank B the “Bears” fan that is on here trolling the Vikings every story defending the pack all the time. You are Tokyo. Anyway I haven’t been saying it every year so that kind of ruined your story. Some Bears fan you are. When are you going to talk about your Bears? Never mind your pack is struggling you can’t feel good.

Regarding Guion when did he do his time? The only reason fans bring him and others up at all is that you packer trolls think you are immune from this side of the NFL.

  87. Does this mean the Viking fans have to throw out their “Get Drunk and Pick Fights” t-shirts? Save them. You’re going to need them again soon.

  88. It doesn’t matter how many championships the Packers have won. It doesn’t matter that the Packers have owned the NFCN in recent years. Really, what matters to Packer fans, and what scares them totally defecation-less, is the nightmare that the Vikings will again relegate the Packers to another quarter-century of irrelevance.

  89. Well, you can’t tell a team’s fortune after the first 6 games, and boy did I have this wrong. Vikes fans have reason to stick out their chests – and we Packers fans have serious concerns.

With no real significant injuries to blame (Jordy’s one guy, and the Packers have more problems than ANY one guy being out), GB has simply lost its mojo for now and the Vikes have found theirs. I do NOT feel good about this game. The Vikes are for real, GB is playing with no confidence and I’d be surprised, but thrilled, to see the Packers win. Hate to say it but I see 31-16 Minnesota. And then the Packers better turn it around in a hurry, fix their woes and get hot at the end like in 2010. GoPackGo!

No Vikings fans are saying if they beat the pack they have accomplished anything. They would still need to prove something on the field by beating a good team. As you said the pack is struggling. I will say the Vikings will give anybody a game with that running game and defense.

    )))))))))))))))))

Say what you want but you have some Vikings fans here checking Vikings fans about trolling. Something you never see with GB packer fans. And they are constantly out of order here. In September packer trolls were saying the Vikings season would be over at the end of October or early November.

Please share the accomplishments of the Vikings during the seventies and eighties with all of us. The Packers handed the Vikings a power vacuum on a silver platter, and the Vikings accomplished as much as the Packers did during that period of time. Nothing. Plus, they went 15-14 and 14-15 against each other. What exactly are you bragging about? By beating the Packers one game more than they were beaten in return, how did the Vikings relegate anybody but themselves into an extended period of nothingness?

By the way…..the Vikings STILL haven’t accomplished anything. You want to talk about irrelevance? There you go.

Like you talking smack when the Packers lost in the NFCCG while the Vikings weren’t even sniffing the playoffs, oh the gall!

The Packers are playing their worst football since 2008 and the Vikings are playing their best since 2009 and this game is pretty much a pick’em in Vegas, Packers 24 Vikings 14.

  94. Pack wins 35-17. Put it in your calendar. Call your bookie. You heard it here first. I’ll admit that the Pack has looked terrible lately but in reality we have more talent on our practice squad than the Vikes field from week to week. The NFC North runs through Green Bay. Period.
    ////////////////////////////////////////
you have the 21st ranked offense in the league. The vikings havent let up more than 23 points to any team we faced, many of which have had a higher ranked offense than you. Your receivers are going to be pressed all day and our front four is going to get you by the time your receivers are six yards off the line. If you want an example of that look at the denver, detroit and carolina games. We are the best, if not the second best, defense you have and will play all season. your run defense is garbage, and ad has ran on the top ranked front sevens in the league already this season, very successfully i might add. Your secondary is nothing close to what it used to be. I know longer fear your team or your non statically backed analysis. Our team is filled with stars and future stars in almost every position on the field but we will prolly take a couple of your starters for our practice squad amongst your upcoming rebuild. Your qb himself can win a game any given sunday but with the way your wr core is looking i wouldnt cross my fingers. Minnesota 27 Cheeseheads 17. Put that in your calender son.
