Flacco tears ACL as nightmare Ravens season continues

AP

Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco suffered a torn ACL during Sunday’s win over the Rams and will miss the rest of the season, Ravens coach John Harbaugh announced after the game.

The Ravens rallied to beat the Rams, 16-13, by scoring the game’s final 13 points. But that’s little consolation to a team that’s 3-7 and now is left to wonder if Flacco can be available for the start of next season.

Matt Schaub is the backup and the only other quarterback on the Ravens’ active roster.

Ravens running back Justin Forsett broke his arm in the first quarter and left tackle Eugene Monroe left Sunday’s game in the third quarter with a shoulder injury. The Ravens previously lost Steve Smith Sr. and Terrell Suggs to season-ending injuries, and first-round pick Breshad Perriman was placed on injured reserve last week. He never recovered and never played after being injured early in camp.

Flacco finished the game with two torn ligaments, his ACL and MCL, in his knee. A field goal by Justin Tucker won it after both teams missed field goals in the final two minutes.

The Ravens play at the 2-8 Browns next week on Monday night.

The Rams lost their third straight to slip to 4-6 and will probably miss the playoffs again.

  1. Feel bad for Joe. But this one wasn’t our fault. He got rolled up on by his own guy.

    Man, was that bad football.
I guess Nick Foles got his job back. Greg Robinson should lose his. And Todd Gurley must be feeling like Steven Jackson right now.

  2. I wouldn’t even call what the Ravens are going thru as the “injury bug”, It’s just down right no luck this year…. What is going on there is bad… You can’t win when Suggs, Steve Smith go down, and now Flacco!

Hopefully everyone will be healthy to start next season!

  3. Tearing it this late in the season makes it hard for him to come back at the start of next season too. This injury could potentially hurt next season.

  4. Tough year for my birds. Flacco is lucky to get off this years team, hope he can rocker before the 2016 season where our team should be much improved. Nightmare season is so appropriate. 19 players on IR including our starting qb, rb, C, OLB (leader), WR1, TE1….having 3 wins is pretty incredible. Probably the last win too

  5. The Ravens’ season this year has to be the single worst season for any franchise in NFL history.

We now have like 18 players on IR this year which includes our #1 QB, #1 RB, #2 RB, #1 Center, #1 WR, #2 WR, and #1 pass rusher.

  6. Nobody imagined the deflategate curse being this harsh against the Ravens. They may never recover. The colts will get steam rolled again by the pats in the payoffs and win another Superbowl.

  7. Let me preface this by saying I do not root on injuries and when I read the headline I cringed and then felt bad for the Ravens, but there has to be some sort of deflategate curse on them and the colts.

Yeah, the Steelers injury parade has been just about as bad. And we’re going to sneak into the play offs.

  9. A giant sigh of relief from baltimore ravens players, baltimore ravens management, and baltimore ravens fans.

  10. Jeff Fisher needs to rally for 3 more wins to make sure he’s making a million a win. How does this clown still have a job? Oh, and just remember, this was the person who was fighting with Sean Payton over Rob Ryan. With Payton, you can just say he doesn’t understand defense that well since he’s an offensive coach, but what’s Fisher’s excuse?

  11. And Brandon Weeden was available.

It’s too bad Josh McCown wasn’t released after Manziel got the job for good.

If Schaub is above .500 or has a McCown-esque run, Trestman’s coaching acumen can’t be questioned again.

  12. These rams are hard the opponents knees. Coincidence? Greg Williams? You all do the math.

  13. Funny how QBs are always getting hurt vs Rams. And who is their defensive coordinator?…..just sayin.

  14. “These rams are hard the opponents knees. Coincidence? Greg Williams? You all do the math.”

Rams didn’t touch him on the play he got hurt. Offensive lineman fell into him.

    Boooo Hoooo
maybe the Stillers will lend you some Terrrrrble Crying Towels

  16. Typical Joe, plays the rest of the game with a torn ACL with no expression on his face. I thought maybe he might have sprained his ankle after watching the replay. The guy is tuff as nails. No expression like a stone face killer.

  17. Seriously, Steelers Nation is laughing its collective behind off at these comments about how injuries have derailed the Raven’s season.

However, if anyone in Steelers Nation is laughing bc Flacco tore his ACL, not cool.

  18. When I first read the title on Facebook, I thought it was on of them fake you out things. Too bad for his ironman streak. Heal up and prepare for next year’s gruesome afcn race.

  19. Ravens sucked when they had all of their players. Bunch of crybabies complaining about guys on IR. deal with it. I hate Pittsburgh but they are still getting it done. No excuses.

  20. What a blow to Ravens’ fans hopes for next season. Flacco returning for next season is the key to the Ravens being .500.

  21. Let’s see:
    Pouncey lost in preseaon.
    M. Bryant suspended for first four games and misses 5th game.
    Starting LT lost for season.
    Le’Veon Bell lost for season.
Big Ben goes down and misses 4 games. And then comes back and gets reinjured.
Shazier spending more time tub than on field.
    Tuitt misses two games.

    Steelers record: 6-4.

Yeah, I don’t want to hear it Ravens. Suck it up and man up.

  22. Harbaugh instigated Deflategate because his feelings were hurt….I Feel bad about Flacco, a gritty player, feel schadenfreude for Harbaugh.

  23. I watched the game since the old lady is a ravens fan. You fools need to watch before you comment. His own OL men rolled into his leg

  24. Man… That’s really bad. We wish you a complete and speedy recovery, Joe.These idiot fans from other teams, pats fans included if they gloat, should just remind themselves that this can happen to their teams too. It already happened to our best players and it’s not fun… at all.

Math doesn’t add up. No Ram touched him on the play.

Steelers are on their fourth PK (they lost the first BAL game because of that), lost Pro Bowl C, Pro Bowl RB, starting LT, some CB, yada, yada, yada. Oh yea, and Ben. No excuses. Next man up.

Wishing the BEST to Flacco and Co. We love the Steelers – Ravens games but they are lacking with either team is missing key players. Hope all your players a full recovery.

P.S. – We’ll give you Vick to finish your season.

  28. Anyone who takes any kind of satisfaction in a player’s injury has outed themselves as a terrible human being with a questionable moral compass. Look how many Pats fans come a-runnin’ at this news. Stunning that people like this would support serial cheaters.

  29. Steelers fan here, but it doesn’t matter. Anyone happy to see a football player get hurt isn’t a fan of football, and that’s the truth, I don’t care who they are. Injuries in football are inevitable, but cheering for them is indefensible. My condolences to Flacco, the Ravens and their fans. Good luck for a full recovery and him back again next year.

  30. Hate to see a player go down like that.
I’m a Steelers Fan but would never wish injury on an opposing player. And Justin’s injury was not just ugly but scary.

Wish both a speedy and full recovery.

He played the rest of the game because, well the “rest of the game” was him taking one snap and spiking the ball… It’s not like the dude got hurt in the first quarter.

And for the people mentioning Gregg Williams and the Rams being dirty, and I believe the Rams are dirty, this had nothing to do with any of that. Flacco got rolled on by one of his lineman. Wasn’t touched by a Rams player. Wasn’t a Rams player within 5 yards of him… Some people are just buffoons

  32. All the best Joe Flacco. I tip my hat to Ravens fans for always supporting their team regardless of their record.Way to go. Hopefully we can learn something from you guys

That is impressive he stayed in the game. Why does he wear mascara tho?

  34. He played the rest of the game because, well the “rest of the game” was him taking one snap and spiking the ball… It’s not like the dude got hurt in the first quarter.

One snap!! Wrong why don’t you watch film before you post.

  35. Steelers fan here…I don’t care how solid of an organization you have, there’s no way to overcome injuries like the Ravens have seen this year. On a positive, if Joe is going to go down, best to do it when the season is gone anyway.

  36. Harbaugh and Pagano are the coyote.
    Brady and Belichick the roadrunner.

    MEEP MEEP!

    Lololololololol

    Karma

  37. Bad luck for the Ravens. That’s all, bad luck. No curse, no karma. I don’t like Harbaugh, but never enjoy injuries to anybody. It dilutes the NFL, which sucks. Ravens should always feared and respected.

  38. That stinks. Pretty sure the Ravens fans had them in the Super Bowl prior to today.

I like Flacco, doesn’t talk crap like half the team and the head coach.

Hope he comes back stronger than ever. I hope for a speedy recovery for him.

    #delusional #coachisanidiot

  39. Tough break for Raven fans, but Joe in a body cast would be better than any QB the Rams field. Sarcasm. Despite your owner’s support of Kroenke, you have a good organization that will be back in contention after your QB is back.

  40. I take no joy in this. I hope he gets well and comes back next season. I hope people saying this is karma remember that calling someone else’s bad fortune bad karma is, in itself, bad karma. Everyone’s QB, and therefore, season, is one hit or bad planted foot away from the same thing.

It’s called the NFL. We have had every offense lineman out at least one game, most multiple games. LT on IR, starting center from last missed the first six games and is playing RT.

Starting wide receiver, same thing. Undrafted rookie starting at center all season.

Now, our top receiver out 6-8 weeks. Best linebacker has missed the last three weeks, best all purpose back on IR.

9-0. You epitomize a Ravens fan. You are always full of excuses. It’s why I hate your team and your coach more than any team in the NFL.

I wish Joe a speedy recovery. I respect the heck out of him. Carries himself with class, unlike half of that team and especially the coach.

  42. Steeler fan here… Hate to see this. The rivalry is not fun without each team at full strength.
Cheered for you Rarbirds in the SB! Go get a WR high in the draft and start fresh next year.

  43. Well throwing all those jump balls does wear on the knee in the long run. Just sayin’!

    🙂

  44. Best to Flacco, don;’t wish injury on anyone. Also thanks to the humane Steeler fans that posted positive comments, all three of them. Watch your backs when walking amongst those other “fans”, else you might just feel that steel between the shoulder blades.

  45. Is it me, or does there seem to be more injuries to key personnel than “usual”.

I am baffled by how often I hear that some team’s QB, or WR, or TE or CB or key lineman goes down.

    I dunno. Just asking.

So what was it? 2 snaps? 3 snaps? It was on the final drive, moments before the game winning field goal. What is your point? Like I said, it didn’t happen in the first quarter. Why don’t you put a question mark at the end of your question?

    —–

Ravens will have something like 18 guys on IR. It’s no comparison to your pathetic list. However, the Raven’s problems go beyond injuries and injuries are a convenient excuse. I still blame a defense without discipline and predictable play calling.

  48. That was painful to watch. He’ll come back strong though.

I can’t imagine anyone thinking the 17 (or 18) game season makes sense. No one will survive, and the regular season will become even less important with whatever team is healthiest and gets hot at the right time winning the SB.

  49. As a Raven fan this par for the course this season, hopefully Brandon Williams, their best defensive player, doesnt have a season or career ending injury next Monday night. The question is who replaces Schaub as the number2?

  50. I remember quite a few Ravens fans celebrating Brady’s knee injury, so I find it hard to feel bad for them.

Flacco won’t be back to his mediocre self until 2017. In the meantime, he becomes even MORE overpaid. Haha!

    _____________

Guy got rolled up by his own lineman, film is there to see try looking at it instead of making real Pats fans look foolish. There is nothing funny about a player being injured, all the more so a starting QB. How did you feel when Brady went down in ’08? Oh, yeah that’s right 7 seven years ago you were probably in kindergarten. Real fans don’t use smiley faces and your other favorite ‘tee hee’ on football comments, we all get tarred with your brush and it is well past annoying

Long time Pats fan, saw my first game as a kid at Fenway and this karma crap is BS out of the yahoo/bandwagon contingent. Before the rest of you judge us all by our yahoos keep yours in mind, they spray hate on every Pats article. Good competition makes the game worthwhile and over time I have really enjoyed the Ravens/Pats rivalry although I have to admit I despise Harbaugh’s whining, it is unbecoming of a coach with his skill. Hope Flacco and Forsett make fast and full recoveries.

If only Baby Ben had Flacco’s toughness and durability he wouldn’t get injured or”hurt” every other game. Balloon ball Ben definitely has a career in soap operas when he decides to retire from some phantom injury.
    —————————————-

    You were saying?

Congratulations on the “Never Tempt Karma” post of the week award. You’re the winner by a mile.

  54. Raven fan judging Pats fan as classy or not is simply hilarious. I give Flacco major credit for hanging tough thru the last few key plays but the look on his face, the grimaces and the limp told the story that he had been injured especially after seeing how he had been rolled up on. Best wishes to Mr Flacco on a complete and speedy recovery.

  55. This is one of those snakebite seasons. Feel bad for Flacco. Never complains. Does the best he can with what he’s given. 9 seasons and has never really had a #1 receiver. Closest was Boldin but by that time he wasn’t really a true #1. But this teams are much deeper than Flacco. We need a shutdown corner, a young rush LB like Suggs or Boulware, a real free safety, and a bonafide #1 receiver just for a start. Ozzie has a lot of work to do. Best of luck to the rest of the AFCN. Do us proud.

  56. @joetoronto,

more than three Steelers’ fans posted regrets about Flacco’s injury. I read only one nasty gram, compared to the awful posts for Patriot’s fans.

That being said, while I absolutely abhor your coach and most of your organization, I like Joe Flacco.

Never hear him whine or complain. A class act guy. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

  57. my respect to the pittsburgh, cincinnati, and cleveland fans (and the rest of you) that expressed kind wishes for joe’s recovery. not surprised by the patriots fans, who didn’t disappoint in keeping their tradition of loudmouthed sore winnery alive and well.

this is certainly the exclamation point on a dreadful season. i have every confidence that joe will play next year, and the team will make strides of improvement as they rebuild.

good luck the rest of the way, AFCN.

  58. Next week it’s looking like there will be 4 Texans-at-one-time-or-another quarterbacks starting in the NFL… Still Texans, T.J. Yates and/or Brian Hoyer. In Baltimore, Matt Schaub. In St. Louis, Case Keenum. And with the Jets, Mr Ryan Fitzpatrick. Mind boggling.
