Report: Amendola has knee sprain, not expected to miss extended time

The Patriots saw two wide receivers leave Monday night’s victory with injuries and early indications are that Danny Amendola has a better chance of playing this week than Aaron Dobson.

Tom Curran of CSN New England reports that Amendola suffered a knee sprain against the Bills that is not expected to keep him out for an extended period of time. He is expected to be limited at practice during a short week, though, and that means it will likely be a couple of days before his status for Sunday’s game in Denver becomes clearer.

Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald reports that X-rays of Dobson’s ankle were negative, but that the team was still waiting for MRI results to determine the extent of the injury. Curran reports that he is expected to miss at least this week’s game with the final diagnosis giving more clarity about how long he’ll be out of the lineup.

Keshawn Martin missed Monday night’s game after being listed as questionable with a hamstring injury, which leaves Brandon LaFell, Chris Harper and special teams stalwart Matthew Slater as healthy players on the depth chart at receiver.

  1. Good news, the Pats need Danny as evidenced by his 10 catches vs. the Bills. The O-line is sort of a mess right now as they try to integrate those who were injured and are now returning.
Give the Pats a couple weeks and then they will have it figured out for the stretch run. Jules will be back for the Playoffs, and the drive for the Super Bowl will commence!

  2. Good to know that for a KNEE sprain the ANKLE x-rays were negative.

I’m still worried about Jules’ foot, therefore they should perform a pelvic exam to gather more information.

  3. Patriots fans are the worst. Hate to see guys get injured but would love to see the patriots lose. Nothing against the patriots, I just want the fans and media to be humbled.

Really none of this matters. We beat this overrated Denver D with Brady, 3 healthy O line and Gronk total. 51-10. Easy

I’m as big a Pats fan as there is….but we’re not going to score 51 against Denver’s defense. Belichick is good at figuring out how to get to ‘new’ QB’s like Osweiller; but, we’re going to have to scrap it out against their D and we’ll be at Denver which is always tough….I think we win; but it’s a low scoring game; 21 to 17.

In summation, Edelman and Dobson are out. Using Matthew Slater at WR causes more problems than it solves, as he would have to be replaced on all special teams units. Amendola and Texans cast-off Keshawn Martin are questionable. Brandon Lafell and practice squader, Chris Harper, are available.

This is the unit going up against a Denver defense that has no weaknesses.

Every team, including the Pats, has some fans who are over the top. The majority of Pats fans are incredibly appreciative of the privilege to watch a team perform at such a high level for an extended period of time.

Don’t kid yourself, all fanbases have obnoxious fans. The relentless winning has worn you out.

  8. Didn’t the Broncos lose to the Colts? Again? You guys might want to ease up on the flexing.

    .

Denver gave up 106 points to Kansas City(x2), Cleveland, and Indianapolis. I think there are plenty of weaknesses to exploit, even with New England being at half strength.

Denver is a bottom 7 team on offense with a new QB.

  10. For as much talk there was about cutting the cord with Amendola in the beginning of his time with the Patriots, I hope he is able to stay healthy and produce. He is a good example of hard work paying off.

  11. Pats don’t care about a perfect season so long as it ends with a ring. Give Martin and Harper the reps on Sunday night and don’t risk Amendola too soon. Experiment a bit with 2/3 TE sets too with Chandler as an extra WR. Pats can drop two games and in all probability still be #1 seed.

Whoops, reading comprehension… I apparently lack it.

everybody makes mistakes but not everybody owns up to them

  13. I’m sorry I really like amandola, he’s crazy talented but he’s a complete joke. He hasn’t been injured of late because he’s a 3rd string receiver and doesn’t have a lot expected of him. The VERY 1st game he became the primary weapon again he got injured or injury scare. It’s ridiculous.

  14. That’s great news. As the game wore on last night, I got less and less worried because the Pat’s defense was stifling the ineffective Buffalo offense. Next week will definitely be a low-scoring affair. The Pat’s have a puncher’s chance of stealing a victory in Denver.

  15. Can’t see how we win in Denver. I see a score of 17-13 but fear we will be on the bottom. Not enough bullets in our gun.

  16. Dobson does not have the physical nature to play pro football. He is always injured when given an opportunity to play. Too bad but this sport is not for everyone and chances are if he had not been a high draft pick his days with the team would have ended in this years training camp. Kenbrell Thompkins anyone?

  17. Denver’s D will surely be breaking down what Buffalo did last night, it was a great game plan.

The Pats can handle Denver, they’re not as scary as they were earlier this season. Playing at Mile High is the biggest problem next to their defense.

6ball – I don’t think of Dobson as “out” because I’ve never considered him to be “in”. It’s past time to move on from this guy, but they must really like what they see in practice.

Try to keep up ( from PFT 11-6) :

In fact, Broncos cornerback Chris Harris says the Broncos are so good that there’s not a single area where opposing offenses can attack them.

“We really have no weaknesses. It’s really hard to say who you’re going to attack, who you’re going to go after. When you have a defense like this, it’s amazing to play with,” Harris told Trey Wingo on ESPN.
    .

  19. That is good news. They still need Keshawn Martin back for Sunday.

Two other concerns from the Bills game are the offensive line’s ability to pick up blitzes (especially a-gap blitzes) and the effectiveness of clogging the middle of field to stop Gronk. Bill will need to address both.

On a positive note, the defense is improving week to week and the Patriots actually did better on the ground than the vaunted Bills’ running attack. Osweiler does not have Taylor’s mobility so I expect the pressure to get to him and cause turnovers. It will help to get Jamie Collins back against the short passing game of Denver. Mayo is ill-suited to stop Denver’s offense.

  20. LaFell and Harper are the only 2 pure WR left. Let that sink in. If Amendola can’t play against the Broncos then we are in deep trouble. Brady is probably hurting right now, with the lack of target he won’t be releasing those balls that quick and he’ll get banged around some more. With no deep threats around, Gronk will be blanketed and swaddled like a new born babe. If any of those 2 or Slater gets hurt…
    Don’t want to go there.
Sure, we laughed at Broncos antics these past few weeks, but like most of our rivals they will wake up and give the Pats hell simply because they’re the Patriots…
Peyton’s back up is not shabby. I think the Pats would do better if the Peyton of late is playing.
These injuries are making our wins more difficult to pull off. Our roster is scraped out. This game will test Brady’s limits.
Hopefully our team will find more ways to win.

  21. I can’t even imagine the dark soul it takes to not appreciate what Brady has done so far this season, and throughout his career for that matter. Envy has a grip on the haters as if it had addictive properties. Maybe it alters brain chemistry.

  22. I hear lots of talking heads talk about how the Patriots just plug guys into the lineup and keep winning like it is some mystery or something.

Yet there is no talk of Belichick as coach of the year.

10-0 while using 20 different o-line combinations. Now losing services of 4 skill players in 3 games.

If this winning with bandaids continues and Belichick is not named coach of the year then COY is meaningless.

  23. Slater doesn’t really count. He runs 1 route, a go down the sideline and the handful of times I’ve seen that tried in a real game with Slater the pass has never been completed.

    Denver will win 24 10”

Lolz poor terripet. She’s predicted a Pats loss every single game this year. Guess she figures like a broken clock she might be right at least once or twice this year.

Guarantee if the Pats lose she’ll make this huge GOTCHA post ignoring the fact she was wrong the first 10 times.

SMH Pats haters, dumber than a piece of tree bark

And I mean if we put just Brady, Gronk, and 3 healthy O linemen on the field against Denvers overrated starting 11 we win this going away.
    In Bill we trust. 51-10

    ===============================
You may be right, probably are in fact. It’s just that I have thought the same thing so many times yet the Pats seem to find a way to win.

  26. Bummer. It would be much more gratifying to see the Broncos crush a healthy NE* team. I guess you can only crush who they put in front of you, though. Beggars can’t be choosers and all that…

It’ll still be fun to see the cross and pouty version of Tommy* emerging right around the start of the second quarter.

The epic collapse of this smoke and mirror Patri*t team starts Sunday. Belichick is a genius, no doubt, but a roster riddled with street vets always reverts to what it is eventually. In a few weeks, the P*ts will be so desperate that opposing teams will have to be really on guard. We know how this org*nisation deals with adversity.

  27. The smoke and mirror Pats you say? If thats the case, what does that make all the other NFL teams that haven’t been to 6 SB’s, won 4, and have the highest winning pct. over the last 14+ years?

Well, all of our fears are alleviated. Thank you, now if you could just share the exact details of that game plan with BB that would just be great

We all know what other teams will do once the Patriots wrestles and wins against adversity…
The Patriots should be on guard…
Another flood ” — Gates” will open. The loser coaches will have an epic collapse, will run to Goodell cry and whine to stop the badass Patriots for stomping them. Then another sham scandal will unfold to cripple the Patriots some more. Yawn… We know the routine.

  30. It’s a shame they weren’t able to keep Thompkins stashed on the practice squad. He’d be perfect to fill in if Amendola can’t make the Denver game. Not sure who else they can turn to. I don’t think Slater is healthy enough or reliable enough to plug in on offense, and Harper is unproven. Signing someone would be tough because they’d have to pick up the offense in less than a week and there isn’t much left to choose from. Terrelle Pryor? Dri Archer? It’ll be a tough week against a great defense, especially if Amendola can’t play. We’ll see what kind of rabbit Belichick can pull out of the hat

  31. Don’t you worry your pretty little heads…Billy-boy’ll shoot him up with HGH (on the sly, of course) and he’ll be right back in action in no time at all.

You mean like how the Patriots reverted to winning the Super Bowl with Troy Brown at corner in 2004. Or how they turned a passed over street vet like Wes Welker into the receptions leader every year. Or how an college QB became the all time avg punt return yards leader and won a super bowl with him as the number one receiver.

The Patriots are 10-0 with a defense full of first and second round draft picks and Denver has Brock Osweiler.

Denver can possibly win the game, but what you are saying is just hopeful nonsense.

We wish but the Jets have him on their active roster now. If Amendola is a no go the Pats may be out of ammo

    —————

I don’t think the Patriots were going to go into Denver and put up 40 points even if they were healthy. It should be a low scoring affair, but advantage goes to Brady to find a way eventually. Osweiler should struggle against the Patriots defense, but if he doesn’t then Denver can win the game. Lets not forget Osweiler beat Chicago last week, not Arizona or Carolina. The Bears are terrible.

I think the Patriots should just play an ultra conservative game plan and get Denver to flinch first. Score off a few turn overs and it will be done. If Kubiak lets Osweiler throw as much as he did last week there will be some turnovers.

Reminds me of a song from 1980. Oh lord, it’s hard to be humble, when you’re perfect in every way.

    Kidding!!!

I think many Patriots fans are humble and realize how lucky we are to have had such a run. We know it can’t last forever, and understand what it could be afterward given how hard it was to be a Patriots fan for many years in the pre-Kraft era.

I can say though, that in this run lots of other teams have had great success. 2 Super Bowls for the Giants at the expense of the Patriots. 2 Super Bowls and 3 appearances for the Steelers. A Super Bowl for Indy along with 3 Super Bowl appearances for Peyton manning (who is 2-1 against the Patriots in AFC championship games). A Super Bowl win and two appearances for Seattle. A Super Bowl for the Ravens, New Orleans and Green Bay. Even Tampa Bay if you go back to 2002.

It’s not like the Patriots have been 60’s Celtics dominant or 60’s and 70’s Montreal Canadiens.

Patriots fans have been very lucky, but the Patriots don’t win every year.
