Amendola to miss Sunday’s game

AP

Another week, another key offensive weapon is out for the Patriots.

Tom Curran of CSN New England, confirming a report from Steve Burton of WBZ, says that receiver Danny Amendola won’t play on Sunday night in Denver.

If, as expected, Amendola doesn’t travel to Colorado, the Patriots will be (or at least should be) issuing an updated injury report downgrading Amendola from questionable to out.

Amendola injured his knee on Monday night against the Bills. He had become the primary replacement for Julian Edelman, who had broken a bone in his foot the prior Sunday against the Giants. A week before that, the Patriots lost running back Dion Lewis for the year with a torn ACL.

The Patriots also recently put receiver Aaron Dobson on injured reserve, leaving them very thin at the position. Which means that maybe coach Bill Belichick, who once had an affinity for moving receivers to defensive back, may have to see whether any of his defensive backs can catch passes.

  1. If Brady can score more than 14 with that garbage offensive line and those no name receivers, he deserves the MVP.

  2. I think Brock Osweiler got a false sense of confidence playing against that Bears defense.

That Chicago secondary is slow, constantly out of position and can’t tackle.

Brock won’t see that against NE.

  3. Improved QB play for Denver (through Osweiler) + New England beginning to resemble a M.A.S.H. unit, may well = the first loss for the Pats.

Ask Aaron Rodgers what he thought about that Bears D.

  5. Why don’t you ask Dr Jerry Jones if he would let Amendola play?
Everyone knows he would, because he has no clue what he is talking about. Bringing Amendola back to soon, will send him right back again. It’s stupid.

  6. Pats oline is getting healthy and Denver will be without Ware.

I think the difference in this game will be coaching and New England has Denver severely out matched in that category.

  7. Denver is actually better without Peyton and his noodle arm. His “injury” is a good thing for Denver.
As for the Pats. Even with their injury depleted offense, with no Lewis or Edelmen, Amendola probably out. Keswawn Martin with a bad Hamstring. The O-line playing 3rd and 4th stringers. They should be able to put up 20 points. The match up to watch is how Denver offense performs now that they have a QB who can throw.
This game is all about defense. Which one performs better the number 1 defense in the league without Demarcus Ware or the number 2 defense in the league without Jaime Collins.
My money is on the Brady and Bellichick making the most out of nothing over Kubiak’s high school offense against the Pats front 7 even without Collins.

  8. The Colts said the same thing about Ty Hilton when playing the Broncos. Hilton ended up playing the game and put up some good numbers.

I’ll believe he won’t play when the game starts. It’s not as if New Englad is always honest about…name a thing.

  9. Aybter: aren’t you the ignorant one! What are you 10? Or maybe just don’t get it’s a game & classless to wish anyone harm, no matter what team the person is playing for!

  10. Remember that time the refs let an opposing coach block a Patriots TD, and the Patriots won anyway? Even average men can do extraordinary things when they are filled with rage, and the league goes out of its way to stoke that fire every week. That the Patriots are 10-0 with their o-line and injuries should make everyone else wonder what their teams could achieve if only their players cared.

Takes a ‘special’ kind of football fan to wish injury on 2 of the best players at their positions. Things are looking bleak for NE isn’t that enough for the hateroids? As a fan of the game itself the number of impact players on both sides absent from a game that real fans had circled on the calendar since the Sunday night schedule came out is brutal

  12. Anyone who wishes players to land on IR aren’t football fans…they’re nauseating excuses for human beings hiding behind their computers spewing hate.

Of course these ‘things’ are only tough behind the keyboard because on a football field they would pee themselves and cry for mama!!!

It would be a tough football game with everyone healthy, now it’s even tougher.

For sure it will be a character building game for both sides…and may the best team on the day win.

I hope it’s the Pats but if it’s the Broncos…life goes on.

  13. If the Giants get past Carolina in the playoffs they’ll beat NE. Pats might already be playing for second place and they dont even know it yet.

  14. It seems Amendola has missed more games than he’s played in, over the course of his career.
    ————–
Actually he’s played 80 and missed 27 and only 4 in the last 3 years but nice hyperbole.

Oh, you must be the guy who doesn’t know how things work.
If they downgrade him to out and he doesn’t travel with the team, then he can’t make sudden appearance on the roster during the game.

  18. Tommy B is in big big trouble. Unless Gronk has 250 yards, the Pats are really going to struggle moving the ball.

Brock is going to be on fire, Von will be in the backfield the whole game, and our Jayhawk corners are going to lockdown these backups.

Pats are going to get rolled worse than the Packers did in Denver.

You ought to ask someone who doesn’t have, like three Super Bowl rings.

But don’t worry kids, New England still has a lot of offense left.

  22. Guess the Knee Hunter will now turn his attention to Gronk again figuring hey I got him once when I was with the Browns and just missed him as a Bronco in foxborough last year. I take him out Sunday night we don’t have to worry about the patriots any more.

  23. Here is a reality check on the Patriots receivers:

    Tyms on IR.

    Gibson on IR.

    Dobson on IR.

    Edelman out.

    Amendola out.

    Martin questionable.

Lafell available after recently coming off PUP list.

Chris Harper, the rookie free agent is available after coming off practice last week.

Mathew Slater, special teams star who has been hurt is available in a pinch.

For those who are ragging on Jerry Jones, you do NOT know the relationship between he and Romo. If Tony felt like he could not play, he would not have played and JJ would not have “pushed” him to play!!!!!! smh…..

    ————–

Haven’t been to the playoffs in 4 years and currently 5-5–right around .500 where they usually are, give or take.

And somehow I keep hearing that Pats fans are the delusional ones?

  26. NE might as well let him sit out next Sunday, too. Not like they’ll expertinence any level of professional competition from the worst franchise in sports.

  27. I think McDaniels + Brady combo can take the field with Lafell, Gronk, Chandler, White and still score 20-24.

New England’s top 3 (yes top 3) defense coupled with Bill getting his chance to confuse an inexperienced QB means a lot.

Their fans shouldn’t be as worried as they probably are right now.

  28. “You ought to ask someone who doesn’t have, like three Super Bowl rings.”

Jerry Jones has not made the NFLs final four in 20 years. Stop pretending he’s a football guy. He’s a marketing guy. A very good and very rich marketing guy. He owes those distant super bowl rings to Jimmy Johnson who traded Herschel Walker, put together a great team, and coached a winner in the pre-salary cap era before a prideful Jones fired him to prove Jones’ football knowledge. Well, no question, Jerry Jones has proved his football knowledge over the last 20 years.

  29. It doesn’t matter. When a team cheats they find a way to win no matter who is playing or not.

  30. As a Patriots fan I’m dejected that the Pats are playing without every WR – but on a personal note, it can’t be too much longer til I get a call from Belichick inviting me in for a tryout

  31. The Pats will run three-tight-end sets, rotating Blount and White in the backfield, and Lafell and Martin as the single WR. Also some 4 TE sets with Assante Cleveland. It could create some matchup problems for the Broncos.

You can be salty but I’m going to assume Denver’s cheating days are behind them. I mean just because they cheated in two superbowls and filmed the StL Ram’s walkthru in London doesn’t mean they are going to cheat in this game.

We all know the Broncos have a long history of cheating, you don’t need to bring it up.

  34. Painful as this is for me to write (as a Bills fan), despite these injuries, the Patriots are the best team in football. They’re going to win it all.

  35. Aaaaaaand another one gone, another one gone, another one bites the dust. Tom, they’re gonna get you too, another one bites the dust.

  36. I know NFL scheduling must be an extremely hard job but has anyone noticed how the Patriots have been unlucky?? They played Washington coming off of Washington’s bye. Then the next week played the Bills on a Monday night after the Bills played the prior Thursday (having a mini bye). And then they have to travel to Denver on a short week only to finally return to Gillette to play an Eagles team also coming off of a mini bye.

I’m sure there are other teams that have had to deal with this. Does anyone from PFT or my main man Florio know of any other unlucky scheduling like this??

Give me a break. Has a SB Champion ever had an easier schedule than the Pats? They play the AFC North and NFC East, easily the two worst divisions in football. Add in the fact they didn’t have to face top players like L. Bell of Pittsburgh or Romo for Dallas, and they face Osweiler making his 2nd start of his career and probably Sanchez when they face the Eagles shortly. With all the injuries Pats have they still have Brady while half the league is going with 2nd or 3rd string back up QB’s.

  39. This is horrible. And Tammy is only 2-5 against the Broncos. Oh dear, a defensive player may touch her and she gets so upset!!! Hopefully, the refs will help her like they always do.

In the Dolphins undefeated season, the winning percentage of their opponents was .397, only two opponents had winning records that year (both the Kansas City Chiefs and New York Giants finished 8-6), and none of them made the playoffs.

  41. Wicked funny reading some of the Denver fans posts, they write like Denver is the undefeated Super Bowl Champions. Guess they forgot already that the Pats beat the same team that blew out Denver in the super bowl the year before. The SAME team, one year earlier!!!!!
Good Luck to the 4 time super Bowl champs!

Several have but it’s immaterial. The opponents are set in advance just like they have been since 2002. The league can only tinker with the when not the who. Not that I believe the league would ever stoop so low as to do anything that would call the integrity of the game into question…

Indy, Jacksonville and Houston are all 5-5, which would put them in a 4-way tie for first in the NFC East with the aforementioned Giants.

  46. benderxflexo

You left out they were scheduled the very first available bye week. A time that does two things. First, it’s while you are still working on your teams rhythm, getting in sync, working out the kinks.

Second, you are generally healthier. As the season drags on, more and more injuries are piling up. A bye gives the players a chance to heal a bit.

So it’s the Pats fault the Steelers RB got susp, Dallas has all the injuries, Peyton is done….Luck’s team was supposed to be a SB contender…
truth is there’s only a handful of good teams. When you’re as good as the Pats it’s pretty hard to get a “tough” schedule. Especially when you’ll only factor in the other teams injuries while ignoring the Pats injuries

Maybe they need a rule for you participation trophy types. For the Patriots only, scrap the planned years in advance rotating divisions stuff, they have to play the team with the best record and least amount of injuries at the time every week. Every Patriots game opponent will be “flexed” depending on which team, besides the Pats, has the better record!
And they would still be one the best teams. No idea what more they have to do to prove to you schedule criers that maybe they’re just a really good football team. Defending Champs and 10-0 so far…but it’s the schedule!
