Irsay: Colts targeting Week 15 return for Luck

AP

Colts coach Chuck Pagano has said that quarterback Andrew Luck will return when he’s “100 percent healthy.” So when will that be?

Colts owner Jim Irsay told Ian Rapoport of NFL Media that the team is targeting Week 15, when Indianapolis hosts the Texans. (Coincidentally, the Texans have never won in Indianapolis.)

There’s a chance, Irsay said, that Luck will return the following week, for a game against the Dolphins.

The Colts initially applied a timeline of 2-6 weeks to Luck, numbers that everyone accepted at face value, even though the Colts remain under investigation for concealing Luck’s previously fractured ribs from the injury report. That was nearly four weeks ago; a Week 15 return will put him just short of six weeks. A Week 16 return would put it just under seven.

The use of the loaded “100 percent” phrase introduces another factor into the discussion. If Matthew Hasselbeck continues to play well, Luck may not be 100 percent until Hasselbeck cools off.

As NBC Sports Medicine Analyst and long-time NFL athletic trainer Mike Ryan told PFT Live on Friday, it doesn’t take much cajoling by the coaching staff to get doctors and trainers to tap the brakes, especially when a player is recovering from an internal injury.

  1. Why take a chance bringing him back when they aren’t making the playoffs? Just let the guy heal up and be ready for training camps next season .

  2. Some teams struggle to find one good QB. The Colts have two. Ryan Grigson has always believed in the “next man up” theory. A lot of teams say that, but Grigson actually knows how to find the talent to make it work. It looks like Jim Irsay has the same philosophy. He lost one HOF G.M. (Bill Polian), and he’s replaced him with another great one. That’s what I love about Irsay. He hires the right people and he doesn’t meddle. He’s involved in every aspect of the team, but he also lets the guys he hires do their job. Irsay doesn’t get enough credit but he is one of the winningest owners over the last 20 years.

  3. Just leave it at when he’s ready, moron. Don’t put targets out there, it can only lead to more complaints if he’s not ready.

    Hey Ryan, what’s up?

  5. .
Irsay was caught driving through a population center going 10 mph in a 40 mph zone and in possession of 11 different prescriptions and 29k in cash. He was a threat to every man, woman and child in the area.

Roger Goodell banned him from his owners box for 6 games and fined a billionaire 500,000.

yes, you must be so proud of his suck for Luck campaign , along with the piped in noise & let’s not forget the participation banner. Last of all how bout framing the Pats for natural deflation of footballs. Real classy!!

  7. Grigson wasn’t there the season the colts lost Peyton …and grigson is a terrible GM.
