Colts put veteran linebacker Nate Irving on injured reserve

The Colts made some roster moves Tuesday, though they didn’t include bringing in another quarterback.

The team announced they had signed free agent cornerback Jalil Brown and promoted inside linebacker Amarlo Herrera from the practice squad, cutting cornerback Josh Thomas and putting inside linebacker Nate Irving on injured reserve.

Irving started a pair of games for the Colts, appearing in eight this year. He signed a three-year, $7.25 million deal with them in March, and was starting in place of the injured Jerrell Freeman last week when he suffered a wrist injury.

Herrera had a one-week stint on the active roster earlier this year, but has spent most of the season on the practice squad.

The Colts are hoping Matt Hasselbeck is going to be able to play this week, which would keep them from needing another one, since Charlie Whitehurst is the only other one on the roster.
