Early last week, Colts coach Chuck Pagano said quarterback Andrew Luck will return to practice when he’s “100 percent healthy.” This week, Pagano said the Colts are no closer to knowing when that will occur.
In the interim, owner Jim Irsay told NFL Media that the target for Luck’s return is Week 15, against the Texans. If not Week 15, Luck is expected back Week 16, against the Dolphins.
Regardless of when Luck plays, he has yet to practice after suffering a lacerated kidney on November 8, during a win over the Broncos. The team initially said he’d be back in 2-6 weeks. That was more than four weeks ago.
“[H]e’s been throwing,” Pagano said of Luck. “[He] hasn’t participated in practice. He’s doing his rehab and most of his stuff is with the docs and trainers and then he’ll come out and watch part of practice. I saw him doing some gassers, which was a good sign, during a couple of the periods.”
Luck separately expressed optimism regarding the situation.
“[G]etting better, getting better, feeling better,” Luck said. “Probably increased the intensity [and] the volume of what I have been doing. Definitely trending upward, trending in the right direction.”
He may be trending in the right direction, but no one seems to know when he’ll arrive at the destination. Other than Irsay. Who possibly doesn’t really know, either.
