Defensive end Damontre Moore won’t be with the Giants in Miami on Monday night, but he’ll be spending plenty of time in South Florida in the near future.
Jordan Raanan of NJ.com reports that Moore has been claimed off of waivers by the Dolphins a few days after he was dropped by the Giants in the wake of an altercation with teammate Cullen Jenkins. Moore will not be on Miami’s roster for Monday night’s game, although he might be able to throw a tip or two to the Dolphins about what to expect from the Giants once the game gets underway.
Moore, a third-round pick in 2013, saw his time with the Giants come to an end when he and Jenkins got into it over headphones gifted to Giants players by wide receiver Odell Beckham. It was the last of several flaps with members of the organization, as Moore alluded to in a radio interview over the weekend, and the Giants decided to move on from Moore despite their ongoing need for more pass rush.
Miami has gotten good work in that area from Olivier Vernon, but Cameron Wake’s Achilles tear has opened up playing time for others at defensive end. That group includes Quinton Coples, who was recently claimed off waivers after being dropped by the Jets. Moore is signed through next season and could use the final weeks of this season to lay claim to a role in Miami come 2016.
The Dolphins also placed tight end Brandon Williams on injured reserve Monday and promoted defensive tackle Deandre Coleman from the practice squad.
