Ravens place veteran defensive end Chris Canty on IR, their 18th

The Ravens don’t have a lot to play for, so they’re going to look at new parts for the future.

That extends beyond the addition of quarterback Ryan Mallett.

The team announced they had placed veteran defensive end Chris Canty on season-ending injured reserve with a pectoral tear, and waived quarterback Bryn Renner and return man Raheem Mostert.

To fill those three roster spots, the Ravens signed Mallett, and promoted running back Terrence McGee and cornerback Jumal Rolle from their practice squad.

Canty is the 18th player to go on IR for the Ravens this year, which is part of the reason they’re clearing the decks and securing young players for the future now. That outlandish number includes many of their top players, including quarterback Joe Flacco, wide receiver Steve Smith and outside linebacker Terrell Suggs.

  1. Not a single person is shedding a tear for that team. And lets be real – with Flacco due $30m next season its only going to get worse before it gets better.

Before you come at me – you can’t just make contract money disappear. “Kick the can” like you gave Steelers so much crap for, or add 5 more years to a contract which already takes a 30 year old into 2019.

At least the Bengals talk a good game these days…

  2. Time to evaluate new players (Mallett and Clausen at QB), 2nd and 3rd stringers (Jensen, Brown, et. al.) , and old players in new positions (Lardarius Webb as FS, Osemele at LT)).

As John Harbaugh put it so aptly, the 2016 season begins now.

  3. Steely still in mourning over his team’s last playoff loss. And the one before that, too.

  4. Maybe the team needs to take down the statue of the player who was found guilty of obstruction of justice in a murder trial. Might change the karma. Or maybe the missing bloody suit is under it & they can’t .

  5. Ravens have only one goal. To knock the Steelers out of the playoff race. Just like last year. End the season with a bang to the team that can’t overcome the Tebow curse. LOL.
