Archie says Peyton’s foot injury dates to before training camp

The foot injury that has sidelined Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning for the last four games has actually been bothering him since before training camp, according to Manning’s father.

Archie Manning told WDSU in New Orleans that Peyton has been dealing with the foot injury since the offseason.

“He went back this year and he struggled again with injury. He really had this foot problem. It’s been going on for five or six months,” Archie Manning said.

That’s surprising, as the Broncos didn’t list Manning on their injury reports early in the season, and talk that he was dealing with a significant foot injury didn’t start until after Manning was pulled from the Broncos’ Week 10 loss to the Chiefs.

Despite the injury, Archie says Peyton may very well end up deciding to play again in 2016.

“Peyton’s got plenty of sense, so when everything’s done at the end of the year he’ll sit down and make a decision. Whatever he does, Peyton will attack it. If he steps down, he’ll find something else and go after it. If he wants to play some more, he’ll go after it,” he said.

What remains to be seen is whether Peyton can get healthy and stay healthy. From what his father says, Peyton hasn’t been healthy in a long time.

  1. Yea. Yea. Other people had things going on before training camp to. Just talk to Big John Football. Look at him, he is still playing.

  2. Last year, it was two thigh injuries, this year it’s his foot, but he doesn’t show up on the injury reports. Broncos and the forehead get away with everything, from meeting with his OC in the offseason to not reporting injuries. Half the donkey front office has been arrested for DUI’s and domestic violence, but everything gets swept under the rug. Players on other teams get fined for the wrong color hat during a presser. Manning is still the fairhaired boy of the NFL.

  3. He’s only trying to pad his stats and break a couple more of Farves records. He knows himself that he will never win a playoff game or touch Brady’s 4 rings.

  4. I’m sure Goodell is already on the phone with Ted Wells to start an investigation as to whether Denver has been affecting the “integrity of the game” by not reporting this injury for most of the season.

  5. I’m no Manning apologist, but if true it would help to explain his horrible season to date. And also, Archie should know better than to be revealing this now, as it relates to the NFL’s injury reporting rules. Sounds like he just can’t help being a dad who is tired of seeing his son being roasted by the media and fans alike.

Here’s a better explanation. He’s old and that neck injury ultimately finished his career.

  7. Manning hasn’t been the same since the thigh injury incurred last season. I don’t doubt that the current injuries were occurred in the preseason and that Manning refused to report them, therefore, hindering the team while collecting checks and padding stats. Shame on you, Manning. From a loyal Broncos fan.

  8. A bunch of revisionist history going on here to preserve his image as the greatest ever instead of facing the reality that he’s just at the end and unwilling/unable to admit it.

  9. Wow. Peyton now has his daddy making up BS excuses for him. Very weak. But Peyton has always been weak, when the moments are the biggest , post season, he always came up weak. He has thrown his own teammates under the bus before. He has 9 one and dones in post season. Peyton, you are done, over the hill, it is ok, happens to every NFL player eventually. There is no shame in that, but there is shame for coming up with excuses for poor play. Just retire

  10. ^ Exactly. Dad wants Peyton’s decline and exit from the NFL to be injury related, and not have him remembered as staying in the game too long and skills fading away with age.

  11. Can we sign a petition or something to get the Broncos to stop cheating??? Whats next? Faking injuries to try and alter the outcome of a game?

  12. damcmp, I am no Peyton fan but your comment attacking Eli and Peyton was down right mean. Archie protects his sons because they both have some form of disability. Peyton has a slight intellectual disability and Eli, although very intelligent has a learning disability with some emotional delay. Before you judge, know the factsI love Eli, he is so sweet.

On another note, I am a die hard Bronco fan and believe Peyton did dirty by not revealing his injuries. This is cheating and something I would expect from Tom Brady. I believe Peyton is washed up, old, injured, and needs to retire.

  13. This is a tough time for us. We are just waiting on the grandchildren to be ready to replace Peyton – Archie

It isn’t because Peyton is weak. It’s the opposite. He’s such a narcissist that he takes it all on himself and makes poor decisions. He’s done and most football experts would agree.

  15. It’s funny, all these Manning haters when in actuality, they would be jumping up and down like a teenager with his first Playboy if old man Manning was on their team! Sigh.

  16. I understand now why he’s playing so bad. His foot was stuck in his dads mouth for basically telling the league that the broncos have been lying on the injury report. Unless he also has a brain tumor to go along with his foot problem it doesn’t explain he keeps throwing the ball to the other team all year.

LOL! As a Pats fan I would not have wanted Peyton in his prime…..let alone now!

I hope BB signs Favre out of retirement so he can throw a few passes and take back his record!

  18. ^^ lol That would be awesome

Most everybody knows the reason Peyton is still clinging on for dear life is for the passing records. He wants as many of them as he can get.

He was finished, but he refused to call it a career, now hes getting what he deserves.
