Matt Hasselbeck returns to practice

Colts coach Chuck Pagano ruled out a return to the starting lineup for quarterback Andrew Luck this weekend, leaving Matt Hasselbeck and Charlie Whitehurst as the options for the role on the starting lineup.

Hasselbeck is the easy choice in that duo, although making that call has been complicated by the rib injury that forced Hasselbeck out last Sunday and kept him from joining Luck and Whitehurst on the field at Wednesday’s practice. Pagano said that the team still expected him to start and Thursday made that expectation look much likelier.

According to multiple reports from Colts practice, Hasselbeck is back on the practice field for the second workout of the week. Barring any setbacks or new injury issues cropping up, that should put Hasselbeck on a firm course toward taking the first offensive snap for the Colts this week.

Hasselbeck has started six games for the Colts this season, completing 131-of-211 passes for 1,444 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions while filling in during two different injury-related absences for Luck this year.

  2. I’m not too big on the Colts, but having a semi-healthy Hasselbeck on the field against the Texans this week (instead of Clipboard Jesus) probably makes the difference between winning and losing the division.

  3. Indybear is calling a 6-7 team overrated? Hahaha what a buffoon. What would you expect from a bears bandwagoner in Indy, the bears are a bigger disaster than the Colts are.

  4. “It doesn’t matter who gets the start. JJ Watt and company can’t wait to pummel these overrated clowns.”

    JJ Watt was largely invisible in the first matchup with the Colts this year, and (as usual) the Texans lost. Try having ANY kind of sustained success AT ALL before calling another team “overrated”.

  5. While I will admit my team has a lot of work to do, they were not viewed as a preseason Super Bowl favorite, nor do they play in the weakest division in the League. Therefore, overrated. The so-called NFL “experts” and the so-called “fans” in Indy simply chose to overlook their lack of line talent on both sides of the ball, an inept running game, poor coaching and draft picks and saw them as a lock because of their weak division and easiest strength of schedule. I hope they do make the playoff and get blown out, again, because THEY’RE OVERRATED. Yeah, my Bears may look bad, but at least they don’t look stupid.

  6. Bears bandwagoner, huh? I’ve been a Bears fan since 1959 and have seen some real lean years. You? Yeah, I thought so. Go back to your Mom’s basement.

    ===============

    come on now, don’t pee on my parade…my colts are havin’ another BANNER year, wouldn’t you say?!!?!?

  10. If I’m the Texans, I’m hitting Hasselbeck early and often. You don’t have to get the sack, but get the QB hit. He can still play and still throw, but the age really affects recovery time. He’s probably still hurting on Sunday from last Sunday.

    With Clowney and Mercilus finally stepping up, I think it will be a long day for the old man.

    Over/under on this game should be 13.5
