Colts coach Chuck Pagano ruled out a return to the starting lineup for quarterback Andrew Luck this weekend, leaving Matt Hasselbeck and Charlie Whitehurst as the options for the role on the starting lineup.
Hasselbeck is the easy choice in that duo, although making that call has been complicated by the rib injury that forced Hasselbeck out last Sunday and kept him from joining Luck and Whitehurst on the field at Wednesday’s practice. Pagano said that the team still expected him to start and Thursday made that expectation look much likelier.
According to multiple reports from Colts practice, Hasselbeck is back on the practice field for the second workout of the week. Barring any setbacks or new injury issues cropping up, that should put Hasselbeck on a firm course toward taking the first offensive snap for the Colts this week.
Hasselbeck has started six games for the Colts this season, completing 131-of-211 passes for 1,444 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions while filling in during two different injury-related absences for Luck this year.
