Tom Brady edges Cam Newton in fan voting for Pro Bowl

AP

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton might be the favorite for the MVP, but he’s still behind Tom Brady in the popular vote.

The NFL announced that at the end of fan voting for the Pro Bowl, Brady was the top vote-getter, with 701,554 fan votes. Newton was second with 701,086 votes, a difference of just 468 votes for the top spot.

They were followed in the overall voting by Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton (525,638 votes), Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer (514,967 votes) and Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (510,374 votes).

Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, Giants wideout Odell Beckham, Steelers receiver Antonio Brown, Falcons running back Devonta Freeman and Vikings running back Adrian Peterson rounded out the top 10.

Pro Bowl choices will be announced next Tuesday night, and then divided up into teams via a draft by honorary captains Michael Irvin and Jerry Rice.

Fan voting makes up a third of the total, with players and coaches each counting for a third of the total.

  1. Tom Brady would win if it was the baseball all-star game. The guilt ridden Pats fans are over-compensating like crazy.

  2. With a big game on the line, who are you going to pick, Brady or Newton?

    Exactly, it’s 1000% Brady.

  3. It won’t matter. The NFL Pro-Bowl is the biggest joke of all the all star events and being a pro-bowler isn’t nearly as big of an achievement as it once was on a resume. By the time the starters back out Tim Hightower will be a starting RB. It’s a shame too, the games used to be awesome.

  4. Just another piece of bad news for #HaterNation.

Say, has Goodell released the PSI measurements for the cold weather games yet?

  5. The pro bowl is a farce. It’s an utter snooze fest with no real meaning. I don’t even care if my favorite players get into the pro bowl. No one plays hard because no one wants to risk getting hurt. It’s worse than the 4th preseason game. At least those young guys in the preseason are playing for roster spots. I would seriously rather watch some kind of College Player NFL tryout match.

  6. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail, lol. Don’t hate the man because he smiles and has fun, that’s just silly!

  8. Not that the Prow Bowls matters but this season could not have gone any worse for CRYBABYNATION.

Tom Brady leads the league in passing yards and TD passes
(They said he would not be able to throw the ball)

The Patriots are near the top of the league in fewest fumbles
(They said the patriots would fumble more)

The Patriots are the #1 team in the AFC AGAIN!!

Who’s been WRONG more than CRYBABYNATION?

Nobody said any of those things. Maybe you have Brady and Manning confused

  10. Cam Newton or Russell Wilson without a doubt.

Brady has been propped up by his defensive performance this year.

In the end, nobody cares about probowls anyway. Seattle should beat NE by at least 10 in the SB this year, with only 1 WR who was actually drafted.

    RW3 > Cam or Brady

  11. Shady is a cheater, he’s disqualified from anything including legit Super Bowl.

He’s tainted and so is his hardware.

    #GCOAT

  12. But Tom can’t throw balls inflated to 12.5 psi or higher. That’s proven scientific fact according to Goodell and his cronies.

With each thing they turn to Goodell and his vermin get their collective faces rubbed in fecal matter. The 3rd party friend of the court brief that rips the NFL to shreds, Brady leading the pro bowl voting.

Goodell must be starting to gnaw his own extremities off

  13. Guilt ridden pats fans?! LOL, yes if anything this season has clearly proven Brady was cheating all those years. I mean the drop off in his production has been staggering, and the Patriots just can’t seem to hold onto the football anymore.

Wait, what’s that? He leads the league in most passing stats, and the Patriots are at the bottom of the league in fumbles again? The NFL has yet to release any PSI data, I wonder if its because it only proves what anyone with a high school degree already knows.

  14. The Pro Bowl has become a absolute joke and getting old washed up greats who think they can still play takes away even more credibility.

The average football fan is an idiot and doesn’t know what is going on on the field – if they do follow they follow the analysts. Even the analysts that get paid to cover the NFL don’t put in a quarter of the work needed and parrot each other.

PFF and Footballoutsiders have their own flaws but it may be the least bias way to get who is playing at a high level, this should replace the fan vote. Let the coaches and players decide the remaining same as current system.

How many of the top 25 will?

  33. Well unlike Cam, Brady will be preparing to play in the SB this season against the Seahawks. Maybe Cam can get Peyton to come over and help him study some film in preparation for the Pro Bowl.

  34. Once again, the same old clowns come out of their sheds to make nonsensical posts trying to rip Brady. The problem is that NOBODY has any backup or ammunition to do so. It’s just blind hatred and jealousy. It’s really sad. I’m laughing at all of you haters on the outside, but on the inside, I feel terrible for you. Montana made his mistakes in the games leading to the Super Bowl that’s why he couldn’t get to 6….Thanks for coming out.

  43. Brady should win mvp he has more passing yards and more td’s and less int’s then cam.only thing got him beat is with rushing td’s people.stop hating on tb12

  44. “the point is moron Stickum vs gloves it’s the same thing …. Go try a pair my 70 year mom can catch with them”

The point is moron, that one thing was illegal at the time, the other is not and league approved.

By the standards that people like you judge the Pats, any slightest violation of the rules is a massive cheat, but when you’re team is known 100% to have violated any rule, big or small, deny that the same sort of thing you call the Pats out for cheating on does not apply to your team.

That’s called a double standard by the way and invalidates any complaint you have about the Pats.

  45. Another shot to Goodell. Seems like ol’ Rog is now distancing himself from this. Told Espnfools he is no longer involved in it and it is no longer about Tom Brady. Just needs the CBA upheld so he basically has complete control of the players. For the most part that CBA, for all intents and purposes, also made him the de facto head of the NFLPA.

How it was ever agreed to in the first place is incredible.

  46. Montana had mistakes yup not blowing out all their opponents 55-10 … Something little Tommy could never do …. Pretty sure NO INTS in 4 Super Bowl wins is a big deal …. Thanks for playing

I’m the moron, but you can’t understand that wearing gloves that are legal, even if we both agree they give too much advantage to the receiver is completely different than using a banded substance???
Let me explain, I’m make it simple, you need it:
Legal approved gloves = OK, not cheating
    Banded substance = Cheating

I watched Joe his entire career and obviously Brady’s too. Different era’s, different rules. They are both unquestionably great. Is it so hard to agree to disagree? Anyone who didn’t have either on their team would take either one in a heartbeat. Your a Montana fan, myself a Brady fan. It is what it is, one heck of a great debate with no clear winner. One things for sure at least we don’t have to add P Manning into the conversation. That ship has sailed.

  62. More proof that only stupid people (the kind that failed 7th grade science) believe Goodell over Brady

Heck – Brady testified under oath nothing happened

Goodell was cited for borderline perjury by the federal courts

  63. Brady has done nothing to deserve a Pro Bowl selection this year. A mediocre QB who’s career is sunsetting, no matter what he says. And what’s the point for voting him to the Pro Bowl? He always finds some sort of excuse not to go.

  64. Brady MVP maybe. Pro Bowl, maybe not. He’s holding the team together. Newton, MVP maybe, Pro Bowl, sure.

Which team does better if their QB hoes down? That’s how you know which is More valuable to that team.

  65. I have no hate for Brady but from the outside looking at both QB’s, Montana was better.

    A couple of points,

Tom Brady was a glorified game manager in the first two Superbowls he won. Literally surrounded by a team that could have won it with Jay Cutler.

He lost two Super bowls. (meaning not as “clutch” as we are being told)

In Brady’s last two Superbowl wins he has been the focal point and has been as good as any QB out there. Joe Montana was the focal point of that offense his entire career and won four Superbowls in a way that no one questions who was the reason for it.

The last point to this is that Brady would have been retired 5 years ago if he played in the rules of the Montana era. Go look at the hits QB’s took then. Not the same game.

Now as a Packer fan with a slight slant on this conversation I would say give Bart Starr some credit. He had 5 NFL championships in 7 years. Two of which were the Super Bowls. He also had one hell of a team around him.
