Andre Branch fined for roughing the QB

AP

Jaguars defensive end Andre Branch has been fined $17,363 for a roughing the passer call in last Sunday’s win over the Colts.

The fine came because Branch delivered a helmet-to-helmet hit on Colts quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. The Jaguars were flagged 15 yards for the play.

It was an otherwise positive day for Branch, who had two sacks and returned a strip sack fumble 49 yards for a touchdown in the Jaguars’ first win over the Colts since 2012.

Branch was fined the same amount earlier in the season for a hit on Bills quarterback E.J. Manuel.

  1. Awww, poor qb got roughed up. We wouldn’t want players to be treated roughly in the modern era.

  2. I saw J.J. Watt hit Brady late. He knew he wasn’t going to get there in time and he had plenty of time to stop. So his whole intent was to try to hurt Brady, or put him out of the game. I don’t blame Watt. I actually thought it was a pretty smart move. Your team’s chances of beating the Patriots go up about 10,000 % if Brady doesn’t play. But no flags were thrown. Gotta protect the QBs. I’m sure Watt was more than willing to take a 15 yard penalty in exchange for Brady’s early exit.

Watt got 15 yards for a late hit on Brady last week.
So there was a flag thrown on the most gratuitous incident.

  4. I think if the QB is a large specimen, like Big Ben, Blake Bortles, or even David Garrard … you don’t get roughing the passer calls nearly as often as the smaller framed guys get, or older dudes.

  5. How bout Hasselback’s rant on the Jaguars sidelines punching the ground etc acting like my 3 old when it’s time to go to bed, thought he was 40

  6. just like people who sign up for the military are aware of the potential for injury, and death, so should it be with football. enough with the wussification of the sport. let them play or give them flags.
