Patriots remain atop the AFC with easy win over Titans

The defending champs are closing in on home-field advantage.

The Patriots had an easy time of it beating the Titans today in New England, jumping out to an early lead and then coasting to a 33-16 win. That win gives New England an AFC-best 12-2 record. If the Patriots win their two remaining games, they’ll have home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs.

It wasn’t the best performance of the season for the Patriots, but against a bad Titans team it didn’t need to be. Tom Brady hit Rob Gronkowski for an early touchdown pass, and New England got solid games from running backs Joey Iosefa and James White, which is good news following the season-ending injury to LeGarrette Blount.

The Titans had a rough outing: Marcus Mariota suffered an early knee injury and left the game, and although Zach Mettenberger wasn’t terrible, he wasn’t very good, either. The Titans did get a big game from rookie receiver Dorial Green-Beckham, which is a good sign that he could be a building block for a good offense in the future.

The Patriots aren’t thinking about the future, however. They’re thinking about winning next week and getting another step toward home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

  1. The league tipped its hand too soon by turning the refs against the Patriots in every game before the playoffs even started. Now Belichick is ready for you. He is always ready for you.

  2. Every week the refs cheat with ridiculous offensive pass interference calls against the Pats.

Doesn’t matter though, Pats can beat the team they are playing and the refs.

  3. The call against Keyshawn Martin was a good call – he held the defender.

What I take away from this game is that Mettenberger has potential, and I think someone aggressively tries to trade for him in the off-season.

  4. It’s funny to see how the league look like idiots and can’t win in a court of law and then turn to shady tactics to attempt to cheat the integrity of the game by buying off the refs to throw bogus calls against the champs. Smh.

  5. The OPI call was among the worst I’ve ever seen – on a par with the holding call on Chung and the OPI call on Gronk in the Denver game. The refs jobbed the Pats out of a shot at an undefeated season.

That said, it’s a privilege to be a fan of this team.

  6. Tom Brady has now passed the disgruntled second string QB for the Broncos err I mean Peyton Manning 🙂 as the all time TD/INT leader in the NFL.

You do see the irony in calling another fan base “pathetic” after a comment like the one above?

You forgot to add “who lost to the Patriots for the 8th time in their last 10 games” after that. 🙂

You might want to double check the Panthers schedule and who’ve they’d played this year before calling out other teams for playing those divisions and having a cream puff schedule. 🙂

It really is tragic that wishful thinking just doesn’t make it so….
