Vikings continue march toward the playoffs with win over Bears

The Vikings are marching toward the playoffs, and beating the Bears was a relatively easy stop on the journey to the postseason.

Minnesota jumped out to an early lead and never looked back today against Chicago, winning 38-17 in a game that was never in doubt.

Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater played what may have been the best game of his young career, throwing four touchdown passes and running for another touchdown. Although Bridgewater had struggled to make big plays for much of this season, he did everything asked of him and more today. Adrian Peterson was banged up twice in the game, once with a shoulder injury and once with an ankle injury, but he returned to the game after both.

The Bears, who are now mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, couldn’t get much going offensively. Running back Matt Forte had a good game, but otherwise the Bears simply weren’t up to the task today.

The Vikings, on the other hand, turned in a strong game that improved their record to 9-5 and made them look like they’ll be a tough team to beat in January.

  1. Ok…will you QB top evaluators on here go away? Teddy throws 4 tds and runs one . Last Viking to do that was Fran Tarkenton. He’s young, getting better and you guys really don’t know anything.

  2. Gotta give credit to teddy today I’ve been doubting him but his last two games he’s been great except for fumble in Arizona. 5 TDs for Bridgewater today. Nice job kid!

  3. That’s doing it a different way. TB seems comfortable being the focus. The Bears improved over the second-half (Fox is a solid coach and Cutler looks better) but the Vikes have more talent.

Impressive win considering all the injuries on defense. Zimmer and his staff are growing up right before our eyes. Great win!

  4. Teddy’s terrible, right? 5 tds and Packers lost to the Bears at home. Hummm, that looks tons better than Rodgers the game manager for sure. He’s known for tiny hands, right? Sure his hands are huge today.

  5. The Bears have the worst LBs in the league bar none. Cant fill run lanes, can’t shed blocks, cant cover, cant tackle. For the love of Ditka can Shea McClellan please be sat down (or better cut) before he desecrates the legacy of #50 any further? It’s shooting fish in a barrel on 3rd down against that D.

  6. Anyone can have 7 TDs and zero interceptions over two weeks. But can he throw deep?

I jest. Real nice couple games, Teddy.

  7. And without our best three defensive starters and Adrian Peterson out for the second half of the game.

  8. The Cardinals eeked out a 3 point win over these Vikings, who were minus 6 starters. If the Vikes aren’t good, what does that say for teams that eeek by them full strength?

  9. Everyone seemed so ready to crucify Teddy yesterday. Seriously, none of us know a thing about developing quarterbacks and we should just enjoy the games. Teddy balled out today and he’ll growing because he’s just a second year QB!!!!

  10. If the Vikings can clinch today (need a Seattle loss), then they might be well-advised to let Barr, Smith, and Joseph sit until January and recover.

Sure, would be nice to win the division. But I’d rather go on a winning streak in January.

  11. So pumped for this Vikings team!!! Boots and cats and Boots and cats and Boots and cats and Boots and cats and Boots and cats… That’s my techno jam when the Vikings win

The one and done Minnesota Vikings you mean.

    )))))))))))))))))))

Yea they aren’t ready this year for a serious run. But if they play a NFC East team they will beat them. And the packers aren’t serious threat either this year. If They play Seattle the packers are going home.

  13. Some of you guys seriously crack me up. Just yesterday some Vikings fans were talking about drafting a QB even if it’s in the lower rounds. Some if not most were saying your QB can’t throw the long ball. Now the Vikes beat one of the worst teams in all of football and suddenly the narrative changes. Really? Oh and by the way I’m a Bears fan who knows a thing or two about a horrible team.

  14. But I read on this very site yesterday that “people” in Minnesota are concerned about Teddy’s ability to make plays. How could this happen?

  15. So pumped for this Vikings team!!! Boots and cats and Boots and cats and Boots and cats and Boots and cats and Boots and cats… That’s my techno jam when the Vikings win. Looks like Bridgewater is a late season quarterback and that bodes well for the future. And right now!!!

  16. The NFL is all about matchups, The Vikings have been built for years to perform in a Dome. The last 2 years playing outside is the best thing that could have happened to them.
They haven’t matched up well against the Packers in recent years. A smaller quick defense that gets around the end gives us more trouble. Kalil is a guy that can over power the strongest ends but he has trouble with quick DE’s.
Teddy made more good plays than I have ever seen him. If he gets pressure, he gets rattled and loses accuracy. Today he hit all his passes.

  17. The Vikings will win the super bowl this year. (I’m reall just looking for packer trolls to claim that after a win against a bad team we think we are all that) we are all that. Deal with it

  18. The Vikings play well one week and stink it up the next. The Packers on the other hand…..are winning ugly. I don’t know what is worse, except for the fact the Packers are still in first place.

This is just my opinion of course, and everyone is entitled to a opinion. At least, on earth.

  19. The Vikings fans don’t have the slightest clue they just played the Bears, who threw the game for a draft pick. There is nothing impressive about beating a non-contending team, but that’s like a Superbowl victory for Viking fans because they have never won a championship.

The Vikings are going to get wrecked in the playoffs and you can take that and Teddy’s white gloves to the bank!

Great, what can he do against a team over .500 on the road?”

You mean like the 335 yard passing day last week against the Cardinals in Arizona?

  21. Good game by the Vikings. Too bad Teddy had to score 5 touchdowns. Now the Packers fans won’t have anything to troll about, won’t come on here, and then who will we talk to? 🙁

  22. If the Packers are so bad for losing to the Bears at home, what does that say about the Vikings for losing to the Packers at home?

  23. Good to see my Vikes overcome the officiating. As usual it went against us today. Bad officiating is how we lose all of our games. It’s why we are 1-10-1 against the Packers the past 5 years. The refs.

  24. sdsmooth this is why Viking fans talk about refs:

Total 3rd down penalties against the packers : 2 (Leads the league)
on 3rd down & long and desperation: 1 (Leads the league)

Total 3rd down penalties in favor of the packers : 15 (Leads the league)
on 3rd down & long and desperation: 10 & 5 of those are desperation (Leads the league)

  25. Another balanced Bear game, bad on defense and bad on offence. Still a good showing on holding penalties. Just wish someone would tell Fox that they are not a coaching goal but rather something to avoid.

In the cards a chance to match Trestman’s record of last year at 5-11 if they play their cards right.
    Bring on next year already!

  26. On Friday, I read about how Merrill Hoge saw one play where Teddy overthrew Mike Wallace, and so that meant everyone in Minnesota was concerned about Teddy’s lack of big plays. Well, I agreed that he needed to make more plays but I didn’t conclude that he couldn’t do it because I had seen him do it plenty last year. When he and the coaches don’t defer to Peterson, he can take over a game. I’m very happy he got a chance to do that today and I hope he keeps it up. Oh, and let’s trade Peterson in the offseason and move into the future.

Hooray. What a giant-killer. He beat a Bears’ team that is done.

He put up good numbers. His last TD was a wide open three-yard toss against a team that had already packed it in. His TD passes to Diggs and McKinnon were all on the athletic ability of those two players. He did hit on some nice passes under pressure today, however.

Bridgewater’s had a pretty bad season and because he beat a substandard team today, he’s suddenly very good.

Vikings’ fans need to stop the weekly bi-polar roller-coaster and take a look at the entire body of work.

You should probably cite your source on those stats. It’s fair to give credit rather than plagiarize information.

  29. Can someone tell me how with this eagles loss the vikes haven’t clinched? Falcons can get 9 wins at most but vikes own tie breaker. Skins are the only other team that can get 9 and they’d win the division. What am I missing.

  30. We wouldn’t hold the tiebreaker over the Falcons if we and Falcons and seahawks would all end up with a 9-7 record…Seahawks and Falcons would be wildcard….so fir that 2 happen..Vikings need to go 0-2..Seahawks need to go 0-2 and Falcons go 2-0 for the vikings NOT TO make playoffs

  31. We lose out in three way tie with Atlanta and Seattle.

I think the Vikings are in next week with

a Vikings win or tie with the NYG OR
a Seattle win or tie with the RAMS OR
a Panther win or tie with the Falcons

I think for the Vikings to miss the play-offs
The Vikings would have to lose both games
Seattle would have to lose both games
and the Falcons would have to win both games

  32. iownyou2 – if the Seahawks, Falcons and Vikings finish 9-7 it goes to strength of schedule I believe so the Vikings would lose that tie breaker. The only way the Vikings miss the playoffs is if the Seahawks lose out, the Vikings lose out and the Falcons win out. Sooo….I can’t see that happening.

Then maybe the Packers’ opponents should take a hint from the Packers and not commit penalties on 3rd down.

It’s so nice to not have these if’s, and’s, or or’s worries when you’re a Packer. And it’s good to be playoffs bound (again…) but getting kinda boring after seven straight years.

    …………..
TD passes only matter if the ball travels at least 30 yds in the air with Cheese fans…..and Frank, the “Bears” fan.
