As a member of an NFL practice squad, there’s a decent chance that wide receiver Ben Edwards asked Santa for a spot on an active roster for Christmas.

Edwards didn’t have to wait until Friday morning to find out if the jolly, bearded man from the North Pole came through for him. Because the NFL decided that Odell Beckham was too naughty to play this weekend, Edwards got a nice bump up to the active roster from the Giants.

Edwards spent time with the Giants during their spring workouts, but was waived on July 31 after injuring his hamstring. He signed to the practice squad a little more than a month ago. Edwards had 207 catches for 2,196 yards and 15 touchdowns during his career at the University of Richmond.

With Beckham out of the picture, the Giants have Rueben Randle, Dwayne Harris, Hakeem Nicks, Myles White and Geremy Davis along with Edwards at receiver for Sunday night’s game in Minnesota. Harris has been dealing with a shoulder injury this week and didn’t practice Wednesday, but coach Tom Coughlin said he’s expected to work on Thursday.
