With their starting quarterback ruled out and their 40-year-old backup running on fumes, the Colts have added another quarterback to the roster.
Stephen Morris has been signed from the Eagles’ practice squad, the Colts announced today. The Colts now have four quarterbacks on their 53-player roster, with Morris joining Andrew Luck, Matt Hasselbeck and Charlie Whitehurst.
Hasselbeck is expected to play through the pain and start this week, with Whitehurst backing him up and Luck inactive. Luck has said he’d like to play in Week 17, but he has not yet been medically cleared.
Morris has been with the Eagles all season, on the active roster in Weeks 1-2 and on the practice squad since then. He has previously spent time with the Jaguars. He played his college football at Miami.
The spot Morris is filling on the 53-player roster opened up when the Colts placed cornerback D’Joun Smith on injured reserve.
