Former Colts running back Zurlon Tipton was arrested in the Indianapolis area early Friday for allegedly firing an assault rifle.
Per the Indy Star, Tipton was arrested around 1 a.m. after police responded to calls about gunshots. He was charged with criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.
The Colts released Tipton earlier this week. He had played in 10 games this season and had been on and off the roster and practice squad over the last two seasons.
Greenwood Police said in a release that Tipton told them he received threatening text messages from his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend and drove with his brother to his girlfriend’s house in Greenwood to check on her. According to the news release, Tipton fired a round from an AR-15 while standing in the driveway. The ex-boyfriend was not at the house when this happened, police said.
