A year ago, Doug Marrone walked away from the Bills. He could be walking back to New Orleans soon.

If Monday’s meeting between Saints G.M. Mickey Loomis and Saints coach Sean Payton results in an agreement that the Saints will accept calls from interested other teams in the hopes of working out a deal that would send Payton elsewhere, Marrone is expected to be at the top of the Saints’ short list.

Per multiple league sources, Loomis is expected to target Marrone, if Payton leaves. Marrone, who currently serves as assistant head coach/offensive line in Jacksonville, worked as offensive coordinator under Payton from 2006 through 2008. He then coached Syracuse before joining the Bills.
