Report: Browns will interview Marrone first

Marrone

The Browns’ first interview for their head coaching vacancy will be with former Bills head coach Doug Marrone, SI’s Peter King said Sunday night on NBC’s Sunday Night Football pregame show.

The Browns fired Mike Pettine Sunday after a 3-13 season.

Marrone was the Bills’ head coach in 2013-14 before exercising an opt-out clause in his contract. Pettine was his defensive coordinator in 2013.

The Bills went 6-10 in 2013 and 9-7 in 2014.

Browns Owner Jimmy Haslam announced Sunday night that Sashi Brown, who was the team’s general counsel, has been promoted to executive director of football operations and will work with Haslam, his wife Dee Haslam and a search firm in hiring the new head coach.

Marrone, 51, served this season as assistant head coach/offensive line in Jacksonville. He’s also been linked to other openings or potential openings.
