The Saints ended their season with a 20-17 victory over the Falcons on Sunday, but the biggest questions for coach Sean Payton after the game had to do with whether he’ll be on their sideline when they play their next game.
Sunday morning brought reports that Payton is meeting with General Manager Mickey Loomis on Monday and that the team may be willing to give permission to seek employment elsewhere if trade compensation can be worked out. Payton has said in the past that he wants to return to the team, but he wasn’t saying anything about whether he was going to be meeting with Loomis about his future.
“We’ve got the players in tomorrow, we’ve gotta evaluate the roster, we’ve got a lot of things we’ve got to do. If I feel the need to get you an itinerary, I will,” Payton said, via ESPN.com. “That’s the answer. That’s the answer. That’s the answer. You with me? I can’t be more clear.”
Itinerary or not, this week should bring more actual clarity about Payton’s future in New Orleans.
