Vikings clinging to 6-3 lead on Packers at halftime

Getty Images

The Packers and Vikings are playing like they know they’re going to see each other soon.

Which may be, of course, because they could be seeing each other soon.

The matchup for the NFC North title could turn into a playoff rematch next week if the Packers win, but that’s not the case at the moment, as the Vikings are up 6-3 at halftime.

The Vikings have held the Packers to just 105 yards of offense in the first 30 minutes, which is enough for a pair of Blair Walsh field goals to be good for the lead.

If the Vikings lead holds up, they’d host the Seahawks next week in the wild card round, while the Packers would travel to Washington.

  1. To punch a guy who is down on the field in the back of the head reminds me on something Ndamukong Suh would do. I would expect to see a suspension coming for next week’s game.

  2. Defenses playing alright by both teams, Vikings offense doing just a bit more and needed a trick play to get 3 of their points, and Packs offense just not doing much. Going to be a long game, but 30 minutes of football to go means the Pack can step it up and get something rolling. GO PACK GO

  3. crap, as a vikings fan, even if they win, they have to go back to green bay for the following 3 weekends, because they rewrote the playoff rule book to accommodate roid boy matthews.

  4. Either Norv Turner is trying not to put anything on film or he accidentally picked up the playbook he used the first 12 weeks of the season. I hope it’s the first but I suspect it’s the second with how pathetic his play calling has been this year.

  5. NBC provided a very nice visual at the end of the half to help all those Vikes fans (most) who are poor with numbers. All that was missing was the Seasame St Count to help them along. 1-2 Vikings NFC North title banners. 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 Packers NFC North title banners since 2002. That’s getting schooled.

  6. Clay close-fists a guy in the back of the head..they show the replay one time and announcers have no comment on it whatsoever. Not 1. Just changed the subject like nobody saw that. THIS is why ppl hate the pack so much.

  7. I’m at the game, sitting next to some Vikings fans. They’re courteous, respectful, and humble. After we took turns buying rounds of beers, I found out they weren’t from Minnesota.

    That explains everything.

  8. You kids sure do complain about the refs. If we did the same thing we would be wondering why there wasn’t pass interference called on Rhodes ever. He doesn’t even try to look for the ball and hits the receiver early every time.

But that’s none of my business

  9. Either way, both of these teams are one and done.

Kinda hope the Packers lose this one…
Though Packers would probably lose to Washington… it would be nice to watch the Vikings get stomped at home by Seattle.

We would also get a better draft pick… this season was a wash about four games ago, just no offense with Nelson on IR.
Just keepin it real guys… unlike Viking fans, they actually think they could beat Seattle next week.

That’s because you live in your own bubble.

    Vikings have a global fanbase.

Maybe you should travel outside of Wisconsin. It’s a whole big world out there.

  11. MN “fans” complaining about the refs when Rhodes should’ve been flagged twice. Can’t win with you guys.

Perhaps Sesame Street should have PRESENT as the word of the day. You see, NFL standings are based on the PRESENT, not what you did the last few years.

Shame they didn’t provide a similar graphic for the quarter century or so that you stunk up the league before Favre arrived. Of course, both graphics would have been equally relevant to tonight’s game.

They showed it once and there wasn’t a very good camera shot of it. It was hard to see how much contact Matthews even made with Harris, as there were players blocking a clear view.

Collinsworth did comment on it, however.

How many times would you suggest they replay it, or do you think they should have focused on the next play which ran very quickly thereafter?

The night is young, but your message wins the award so far for producing the most uproarious laugh for my wife and me. The least “courteous, respectful, and humble” person on this board is impugning a whole state of people for supposedly not having those qualities?

  15. Is it me or are both teams trying to lose and go on the road to Washington instead of having Seattle come to town….

  16. did you see diva dork rodgers get bashed around and not make the tackle? what a useless nfl player. ALL thumbs down on this comment will be packer fans that think losing 20-3 is the same as having home field and being 15-1..im serious, a reporter after the game should say to rodgers “so i guess this game wasnt for all the marbles either huh”? and if this was bridgewater, all packer fans would say yep that was a fumble..idiots cant take off their green and puke glasses.

Only one phantom pass interference call against the Vikings in first half. Refs must be waiting until game is really on the line…
    ————————–
Anything else you’d like to say after that incomplete pass was ruled a fumble for a touchdown?

    3-19 3-19 hut……shut up you diva Rodgers
    =================================
Wow. The nerve of that guy. And Manning’s “Omaha” call as well. And all the other QB’s that have their “pet” calls.

This is something to get legitimately upset about and proves that he’s a diva.

why is mccarthy punting on 4th and 9 from his own 25? doesnt he have the greatest qb in the history of the game?

Not real big on football, huh?

It’s fun to create arguments about things that haven’t occurred, isn’t it?

True. The Vikings’ popularity includes such global powers as both South and North Dakota.

The NFL does have an international following. The Vikings are hardly one of the more popular teams.

Actually, yes. You didn’t notice that the Packer organization tweeted right after the play, and before the review, that it was a fumble and TD?

  23. rodgers jumping around and fist pumping till he realizes they are still down by 10

Kinda like your “flash” in the pan kick returner celebrating a return when you guys are down by 30???? yea I thought so.

  24. I honestly dont know who looked worse tonight. I expected a roll over by the Vikings but the pack hung in there right to the end.
The packer play calling and passing game is in the tank. Lacy left, lacy right is old, very old. Run run and then try and pass for a first down is old, old very old.
The routes being run and the inability of the receivers to get open is old old very old

I see the season ending for the Vikes and Pack next week. Goodbye NFC north. The talent aint there

  25. Entertaining game, much better than the blow-outs we saw all day. The only other decent game didn’t mean a thing. Vikings defense must have been on the field for all but about 5 minutes in the 2nd half. They were exhausted, but still got the job done.

Nice to get the GB monkey off their backs. Now they have nothing to lose as everyone thinks they have ZERO shot at beating Seattle. Seattle did lose 6 games, including one to the Packers, so any given Sunday.

    SKOL!

Packers offense is anemic. What is going on with this team!?

    ======================================
Well having the slowest receiving core in the NFL that allows the defensive backs to blanket these guys and make the pass rush more effective seems to be the answer.
This is a case where 8 weeeks ago one team showed how you beat the packers with this defense and everyone else is copying it. Washington already knows how to defense the Packs. Until they get some speed in the receiving core to streacth the field, they are done. Put a fork in them

  27. Congrats to the Vikings on the div title. They seemed really greatful to have won it and are proud of how all the work paid off.
The Vikes will be moving into their new stadium next year and will play on a faster carpet that they were groomed for. Who knows how many more titles are in line for this particular team, a lot of talent there.

  28. “Real classy punching a lineman in the back of the helmet huh Clay.”

And how exactly were you able to see that? Like a previous poster commented, Clay made contact but there was no clear view. A typical Viking fan just trying to stir the pot.
