Ross calls Gase “right leader for our team”

The football team owned by Stephen Ross has lacked leadership in recent years. On Saturday, Ross called his new head coach, Adam Gase, the “right leader” for the franchise.

“We did exhaustive research on all of the candidates ahead of time and conducted thorough and detailed interviews with each person,” Ross said in a statement announcing the hire. “In the end, I was convinced and the search committee was unanimous Adam was the right leader for our football team who best met all of our priorities. He has high-energy, is competitive, and driven to win with a mindset of teaching and developing players.”

Gase has worked with a diverse group of quarterbacks in recent years, from Jay Cutler to Peyton Manning to even Tim Tebow.

Yes, Tebow. Back in 2011, when Tebowmania first landed in the NFL thanks to that goofy University of Florida reunion game in the stadium where the University of Miami plays, Tebow (under the tutelage of Gase) and the Broncos erased a 15-0 fourth-quarter deficit with less than three minutes to play to beat the Dolphins.

If Gase could get so much good out of a quarterback otherwise deemed to be so bad, what can Gase do with Ryan Tannehill? Whatever it is, it’s safe to say it will be the best that Tannehill can do.

And if that’s not good enough, it’ll be time for Gase and executive V.P. of football operations Mike Tannenbaum to find a new quarterback. Not named Tim Tebow.

  1. Except it was Mike McCoy who figured out how to use Tebow.

The Dolphins are frustrating and I’m not even a Miami fan– last time they said they hired Philbin because of his work with Aaron Rodgers.

  2. Wow, 5 year deal for somebody the ownership will give 2, maybe 3 years. They HC jobs are some of the best jobs in the world.

  3. Cue the Negative comments… we all have opinions, but here is a fact. Gase is and was the most sort after Asst. for a HC this year. I personally am not in love with the match to the Dolphins because they needed an experienced HC. However, the Giants were going to hire him and Ross pulled the trigger. At least for the first time in Ross’ history; he got his first choice. As a life long Dolphins, I hope it finally works out. OK… go back to your reasons why he *might* suck. Keep this in mind. Belichick had 5 losing seasons before 2001 as a HC. Just sayin’…

  4. Saboteur !!! Ross demands the same bonehead hire for HC the 4th time now. Last hire with past NFL HC experience was back in the year 2000. You had Shanahan and possibly Coughlin right there SMH.

  5. I don’t understand why they didn’t wait to interview Hue Jackson on Sunday who seems like a better leader with more experience before making a decision. Can someone here explain??

  6. As a Bear fan..Please…Please..Please… take Gase off our hands..If I see another run up the middle for -1 yard my head is gonna explode…Worst playcaller in the NFL

  7. Leader of the 21st ranked total offense. 23rd in passing. The coaching pool really, really leaves a lot to be desired.

  8. I hope this works out but I am highly skeptical. Not because he isn’t smart, he is, but because head coaches rarely have success in their first HC job unless they are allowed to stay there for a decent period of time or take over teams already primed for a run. Belichick got great in his second opportunity, as did Coughlin and countless others. Those coaches learned from experience as head coaches who failed initially. This fan base is starving for a winning team, now, not year 3. The QB background of Gase would be fine if he was the OC or QB coach but as the HC he has more duties and less time. Maybe Gase has what it takes to succeed early but history says otherwise. There is talent on the Dolphins but the cap issue (2016 only) will make it difficult. I do have confidence that Tannehill is good enough to win with but the attitude of many players must change. This team seems to play more as individuals than as a team. If Gase can fix that, there is hope.

  9. They NEED to give Gase a FULL 5 years and NOT pull the plug early to get this pointed in the RIGHT direction.

  10. The picture of Ross with shades and the football is being sent to the Louve in Paris. Already tourism has increased with this news. Titled “Snoopy Dog plays QB” the museum is asking , please no cameras .

  11. McDaniel’s 2.0. Probably a good coach to teach players and game plan on the offensive side if the ball. Doesn’t, yet, strike me as the type of guy to take all the heat and deal with all the player issues and other drama, while keeping the rest of the players in check and motivated.

  12. All you armchair GMs out there crack me up. You all live to bitch and critique, you would have griped if they hired an 80 year old retread too. I’ve been a fan since their inception and it’s been a rough go, but I will give Gase a chance. He’s been a hot commodity for a couple years and is now getting a chance. Who knows, he may be the next genius.

  13. And the guy responsible for bringing Tebow to the Broncos and getting rid of Jay Cutler, who had played very well for us, Josh McDaniels, is under consideration as a head coach again. How quickly they forget.

  14. Ross is nothing but a LIAR. He lied to the fans about bringing in an experienced coach. He is the officially the worse owner in football

How dare you! Cleveland would like a word with you.

And give Gase a shot. I’m not happy with losing him as a Bears fan. He really did do well with what he was given this year, and did a great job with Cutler. Hope that translates over to HC for you.

  16. Not gonna knock the hire, could be great , could be awful only time will tell. But the season ended last week. How exhaustive could the search really have been s

So where is Ross getting his “leader” title from? He really need to take a public speaking course.

I would have been happy with any of them with past NFL HC experience, young old or indifferent.

Nice thoughts but didn’t you fans also state the Bears scored like 20 points a game? Well the Fins did the same with similar garbage time stats.

  18. Unbelievable comments. Great forum for everyone who supports other teams. Most don’t know what they’re talking about. And whoever the idiot was that said Ross introduced Cam Cameron, that is a priceless example of the stupidity shown in many comments here.

Since so very few people know anything, about anything, successful people should take a consensus and do the reverse…
