Roethlisberger limited, Antonio Brown still out

The injury update for the Steelers on Thursday doesn’t look all that different on the offensive side of the ball than it did on Wednesday.

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was listed as a limited participant because of his injured right shoulder. Roethlisberger did not throw in practice for the second straight day and said, via the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, before practice that he would “do some handoff work and stuff like that.”

Wide receiver Antonio Brown remained out of practice while going through the concussion protocol after getting hurt on the much-discussed hit by Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict late in the fourth quarter of last weekend’s win. He’ll need to get cleared to both return to practice and play in the game before Sunday. Running back DeAngelo Williams also remained out of practice and it looks like Pittsburgh will be turning to Fitzgerald Toussaint and Jordan Todman in the backfield again this weekend.

Linebackers Ryan Shazier and James Harrison and defensive end Cam Heyward all practiced after sitting out on Wednesday.

  1. Congrats, Burfict, on accomplishing your goal of injuring the Steelers best players — Bell, AB and Ben! Still not as great as having a game this weekend but at least you can watch knowing you did what you could to prevent the Steelers from winning the SB, which seemed much more important to the Bengals than actually doing it themselves.

  2. Bravo, Mr. Brown. Bravo! A master thespian indeed, you have pulled the wool over all of our eyes, including your neurologist, deceiving us as to your medical condition, and in turn making Mr. Jones look foolish. …… Or maybe the wink you have Pac man was an involuntary reaction to the mini stroke you were having.

  3. Big Ben, Bell and Brown…….Burfict sure kicked the crap out of the Steelers this year. You know that offense is going to be uneasy every time they play him going forward.

I knew before halftime that neither team had a chance to win their next game.

  4. But that’s not enough for the apology Jones promised us… Maybe he could sit in on the neurologist consult… No that won’t work, the doc is also looking for a Grammy.

  5. It’s quite possible that Brown didn’t feel his concussion symptoms until the next day. I’m not saying it wasn’t exaggerated, maybe it was, maybe it wasn’t, who knows. Anyway my point is he very well may not be faking. I work in the health field, you don’t always feel concussion symptoms immediately , so if or if he didn’t wink at jones does not make the diagnosis or lack there of. I want Antonio to play Sunday more than anything! GO STEELERS!

What you meant to say was, Burfict is the dirtiest player in the NFL. There, fixed it for you. Go Steelers!!

    Bills Fan.

  7. I don’t get why it shows Brown was faking if he plays Sunday. Plenty of players suffer concussions and then play the following week, especially with the extra day mixed in. Conspiracy theorists and cry babies are all that post on this board.

  8. Shazier hit Bernard. He lay on the ground. Bengals coaches gathered gathered ’round. Jeremy Hill ran out to the Steelers and started smack-talking. The refs broke it up and the Steelers walked away. Bernard got up and walked off the field.

Burfict hit Brown. He lay on the ground. Steelers coaches–including Joey Porter–gathered ’round. Brown got up and walked off the field. Gilberry hit Joey Porter in the back and Jones ran over a ref trying to get to Porter.

No one has said a word about Bernard faking anything while he lay on the ground for several minutes before getting up and walking off. For some bizarre reason, a bunch of twits keep saying Brown was faking what? while he lay on the ground for only a few minutes before getting up and walking off.

Burfict was flagged for a dirty hit on a defenseless receiver, not for any injury inflicted. If you’re not adult enough to understand that, maybe this isn’t your game.

  9. All the Bungals have done is push all the fence sitting fans with respect to the steelers into steeler nation.

And even I have come to respect the Ravens vs steelers rivalry a little more because at least it has a higher element of competitive football and less chirping and cheap shots.

Enjoy the game Bungals… No matter the outcome, even the Browns have won a playoff game more recently than you… And that is bad. Very very bad.

  10. I’m a Broncos fan and there are a lot of sour grapes it seems from Cincy. The game is happening, we’d all be more entertained if the Steelers best guys can play. No one should be cheering these injuries of claiming they’re fake.

I hope both guys can play. I want to beat the Steelers at their best.

I can’t think of one player this year that suffered a concussion and played a week later. In fact, more often than not, players who suffered concussions remained out for several weeks. Sam Shields from GB has been out multiple weeks with a concussion.

So yes, if Brown was truly concussed, he would be out against the Broncos, and Pacman would be issuing his appology.

  12. Also forgot to mention the shady stiller helmet to helmet concussion-inducing hit on AJ Green that left Stripes to limp on into the playoffs vs Indy with Mo Sanu & a backup RB Rex Burkhead ‘leading’ what was left of the WR corps

  13. Hey Deb, I agree with everything you said except one. Remember they showed Bernard RUNNING off the field to the locker room. He was only helped from the field to the sidelines before that.

  14. The Ravens play hard – and are rarely dirty. The Bungles are a dirty bunch – those are the facts. The Steelers will the Steelers have simply been the best run NFL franchise for 40 plus years. See you in Denver! #blackandgold

  15. clipper522- just quit. You make no sense.

It was but a few years ago it was common to come back…again…YOU and OTHERS like you . MAKE no sense.

He took himself out of a playoff game? For what? So he could lose? Miss practice for the game against the Broncos…pure insanity.

anyone who saw the play knows… Brown was definitely unconscious when he first hit the ground … no question, he flopped like a fish then didn’t move the least bit for at least 25 seconds

Burfict speared him in the face with the crown of his helmet, and that is, any day of the week by any player in the NFL, a penalty

Admit it, you didn’t really watch the game did you? Just falling in line like all the other lemmings…so wrong on so many points! Carry on junior!!!

  18. Bengals destroyed any hope of Steelers moving forward in playoffs. Burfict dominated and intimidated the dirtiest franchise in the history of the NFL. The irony is hilarious…Burfict destroyed Bell, Brown and Fatso!!!

  20. I think it neat that the dirtiest team in the NFL, who are known for their cheap shots, got their clocks cleaned, and hopefully gonna miss the remaining playoffs. Could happen to a more deserving team, just hope none are permanently disabled.
They have done his to so many other teams, it’s payback to see them get the short end of the stick. And I was astonished, to see them complaining about the Donkey’s supposed bounty system, which they pulled the same crap on during their last meeting. Yup, they were crying like a bunch of little girls, about how the Donkeys will try to get even. Just take your medicine like the low-life scum you are.
I root for my team and who ever is playing the Squealers.

  21. Steelers are the most annoying nfl team next to the Patriots and colts. And I can’t stand the Broncos either. But the steelers are just to shady to cheer for. Go Broncos! Ugg, hate saying that.

  22. @deb – you didn’t see the reaction of Shazier and other steeler players chest bumping on the 50 while benard lay unconsious on th ground. no one talking about that. that’s when Hill ran up and said something to them. i was at the game and saw things you didn’t on tv. remember all the bs burfuct took for supposedly celebrating Bell hit. all you heard was haow burfuct/bell hit dirty and celebrating after no mention of shazier.
Burfuct hit on Ben also clean – hard like burfuct but clean. media blows out of proportion and whiner pitt fans too – AB jury still out on that but was hit not in head but shoulder/shoulder pad – i watched it overe and over in slow mo different angles

  23. I’m certainly no Steeler fan but the notion that Brown was “Faking” is just comical. If u think he was faking your either a Bitter Cincy fan or your just plain ignorant. I agree Pitt gets away with some cheap shots but to compare them to Cincy????? not even close. What Cincy players do goes beyond the scope of football and is just downright disgraceful. They got what they deserved and thats another playoff loss. Pac man should just be quiet and stop whining…its always someone elses fault with him. I saw the WHOLE CLIP of Joey Porter…He was out there checking on Brown…..Burfict took a swipe at some old man trainor for the Steelers so Porter said something to him then number 95 from Cincy came over and chest bumped him into the cincy huddle where pac woman took a shot at him..Yup Joey should not have been there but if u cant control your emotions you go home just like they deserved to.. Dont worry Cincy we’ll do your job for you…Bums…

82 of the 197 concussions reported in 2015 missed zero games. If you are going to try and post garbage, at least try to make it a tad believable. Maybe hit Google so you don’t come across as so clueless on the subject.

  25. @natijim235 …

Yes, I did see Shazier running around thumping his chest while Bernard was on the ground. In fact, I commented on PFT a couple of days ago that he should be fined by the league for that behavior. (He apologized on Twitter.) The hit on Roethlisberger was clean, but close-up footage shows Burfict jamming his knee into Roethlisberger’s injured shoulder after he was on the ground. No jury is out on Brown. It was an illegal hit whether or not Brown suffered a concussion. He was lying on the ground for a few minutes just as Bernard was, then just like Bernard, he got up and left the field. There’s nothing to “fake” in that behavior.
