Cris Carter speculates Chandler Jones smoked PCP

Reuters

Patriots defensive end Chandler Jones was rushed to the hospital on Sunday as a result of what was reportedly a bad reaction to synthetic marijuana. But one former player who had his own history of drug issues suspects something more serious.

Cris Carter, the Hall of Fame receiver turned ESPN analyst, said on Mike & Mike that he suspects people are covering for Jones by saying synthetic marijuana is what he used.

“I don’t know this, um, I think that the synthetic marijuana story might be just a story,” Carter said. “Just for me, it don’t pass the smell test for me. To me, I think that — I think he was smoking marijuana, and I think he was smoking some marijuana laced with PCP, or angel dust. And I think that’s what made him trip out. Now, he could have been smoking synthetic, but it’s a better story — it’s a better story to tell: ‘That’s the reason I’m here.’ So when he got to the police station, why was he smelling like marijuana? Because synthetic doesn’t smell like marijuana. So for me, I don’t know all the details of the case, but I’m just a little — uh, the synthetic, that’s a better way to put it.”

Carter then invoked the name of Aaron Hernandez, the former Patriots tight end now in prison for murder, as a cautionary tale.

“If you look at — this is not the same thing, so don’t freak out on me, people — but Aaron Hernandez, if you look at what was some of the things they started looking at with him? At the end, he was smoking marijuana laced with PCP. And that’s when the people around him said you can start to see, it started making a difference in his decision making. So, did he have that? No. I’m just trying to tell you what I believe could be the end result, because that’s what happens,” Carter said.

That’s quite a leap for Carter to make. To begin his statement by admitting he doesn’t know the facts and then go on to speculate that Jones was using PCP and connect him to a convicted murderer seems irresponsible. ESPN’s management may tell Carter to choose his words more carefully. Or next time he says something irresponsible, find a fall guy.

  1. Who cares what Cris “The Clown” Carter has to say? As with all those who hate the Patriots, he speaks without knowing the facts. Even when the haters have the facts, they ignore them.

  2. Carter’s a dope and we all saw it on display at the NFL Rookie Symposium. Who in their right mind would ever listen to this moron.

  3. Guess Cris has never seen someone smoke spice (synthetic marijuana) before. Just when I thought everyone had seen the YouTube videos….

Actually, yes I do recall. I still have my popcorn ready. Not sure where the train left the tracks. I suspect the Andy Reid bus is going to roll into town to end the season for the Pats. They’ll cry about that too.

  5. I thought I saw Chandler Jones on that Dave Chappelle skit years ago.. or was that Wayne Brady?

  6. Typical ESPN and Chris Carter. Throwing crap out there and because it’s the Patriots, everyone runs with it.

Carter, Mortensen and the rest of the idiots at ESPN who throw this misinformation are as bad as any gossip magazine you buy at your local checkout.

No one ever calls them on this stuff. It is unbelievable.

    #15yearsofexcellenceandcounting

  7. Baseless accusation without a shred of evidence? Sounds like Carter is honing his media skills nicely….

  8. Completely and utterly irresponsible. I have no respect for ESPN. Disney needs to clean house there, and they will.

  9. But the dude did not believe Peyton took HGH.. from a fishy “Health institute” who has been investigated before.. Even tho the stuff was sent to his house..

Chandler Jones did do anything illegal, was it stupid? Yes.. But not illlegal.. And the dude was smart enough to the police station.. and btw it’s not even just a police station it’s a Public Saftey Building.. Police, EMT, and the Fire Dept are all in the same building and lives one block for the building.. He did the right thing, he seeked help, he did not go behind the wheel or anything.

  10. If the NFL had any integrity they would test Jones. But they won’t, its not good PR leading up to a big playoff game.

  11. Who knows? The formula for synthetic weed changes all the time as they try to evade the law so there’s not telling how someone might react to it.

  12. Totally separate from this topic, Cris Carter shouldn’t be on the air. The guy brings zero to the table. He makes every topic about him and idiots like Mike Greenberg just sit there and kiss up to him like he invented football. In reality the guy was a perennial loser who could only catch the ball indoors.

  13. #1, I’m sure your speculation is based on experience, Cris.

#2, your experience with synthetic is from the amount of Mr. Nice Guy that Duron used to smoke. And while it doesn’t smell like marijuana, it does have an odor, one that officers who aren’t marijuana connoisseurs could and would mistake for a weed smell. The product your boy smoked back when indeed didn’t make one “trip out,” and for what it’s worth, it was a well formulated blend. Not all of them are, many have more than just JWH analogues sprayed on them. It’s also a different, more intense kind of high. Not everyone reacts the same, and if you try to smoke it in the same quantities as one would marijuana, you’re going to get out of your mind.

  14. Maybe it was Rhino horn ground into a fine dust combined with the dried blood and bones of thirty babies!

Chandler Jones smokes dead babies! And rhino horn! What a monster! SMH…..

  15. I love Chris Carter. He’s very informative and he’s not just repeating what someone else says. He has a great deal of insight. He’s not pretending to know everything. He’s trying to protect this kid from hurting himself seriously. A lot of people looked the other way when Aaron Hernandez started going over the edge. Carter genuinely cares about these young men. He’s just saying you might want to dig a little deeper if you truly want to get to the bottom of this. It sounds like the same thing that Robert Nkemdiche from University of Mississippi was doing when he jumped out that window last month. Maybe everyone in the world already knows everything and they don’t need to learn anything, but I learn a lot about life listening to Chris. I didn’t grow up how he grew up. A lot of us didn’t.

  16. How does Carter know the effects of synthetic marijuana when he supposedly quit doings drugs when he becam a Viking in 1990 and that particular drug wasn’t even around yet?

  17. could be true, that stuff just resonates with some ppl deeply. whitney houston had the money for better stuff but stuck to some real dangerous nasty stuff. jones might have it the same way

  18. “So when he got to the police station, why was he smelling like marijuana? Because synthetic doesn’t smell like marijuana.”

    ——-
where is it said that Jones was smelling like MJ when he got to the station? Is Carter making this up? The police report said the officer that went to his house smelled MJ and the audio of the call from the officer, while at Jones’ house, said there was a Class D (drug) involved.

    Chris…..stop speculating. You look pathetic

  19. Are you joking? ESPN is awful, you can’t be an NFL TV personality and accusing a player of smoking PCP. You wait until there are facts. Such a terrible network. The only good thing they have is SVP.

  20. Ya this is from the guy promoting a “Fall Guy” from your entourage. Lets keep the story alive because it “Smells funny” To chris carter.

But the HGH story of Manning smells like Roses so lets kill it.

    Losers.

  21. Totally stupid theory and poor journalism. Like all drugs dealing it is a business with huge profit and repeat customers. Adding PCP cost money… so in other words, you but a car with cloth seats and they throw in the leather? If that doesn’t suit you then why try an harm a customer, so they don’t come back for more. Spice is nasty and has no accountability and contains numerous compounds that can kill you. God given Weed has never killed a single human being from it’s elements. Getting High and doing stupid things is a different story.

  22. .
Carter :” I have absolutely 0 facts, so I’ll just make something up that no one can actually disprove. Therefore people will think I’m smart. ”

Why didn’t anyone ask him about his first hand experience with PCP and synthetic weed? Since synthetic weed has only been around for a few years, it’s highly improbable that he would be an expert on the topic.
    .

  23. Regardless of what your opinion of Cris Carter may be, Chandler Jones showed extremely poor judgement and made a massive mistake. Why would a player at his level on a team like the Patriots put himself and the organization in this position entering the playoffs? Belichick should unload him for whatever he can get at the end of the season. Don’t need any clowns like him on that team. The Hernandez tragedy is example enough.

  24. Can the man not give his opinion? Sheesh. He flat out said he was speculating. You know “I’m probably wrong. You guys. But…” So why are people going in…like he’s wrong. He just said what he thinks. Stupid as it sounds, it’s still his opinion. Plus, it’s not like we’ll ever learn the truth. Not like Chandler will come out and say “well he’s right”

  25. I have always wondered which fan base is loudest on here and you can tell by the up/down votes on comments when you go article to article, it is the pats. Wonder how many are from the NE area or how many are those people that just like winners….

Pretty big leap for Carter but the marijuana smell both on Jones and at his house when the police went there lend credence to his thought process.

    Either way, lets go KC!

  26. Wow, quite leap. From Synthetic to PCP…from Jones to Hernandez. Talk about unsubstantiated gossip mixed in with sensationalist reporting. I won’t call it journalism…….because it is not. Calling that journalism would be like calling a burger at a fast food joint gourmet.

But if we are throwing around what if’s……..maybe he smelled like pot because…..wait for it……….he was with people that were smoking. Or possilby he smoked some himself. It certainly would not be a stretch to think that if you were at a party where synthetic was available the real deal may be there too. Heck you should know that Chris, with your previous behavior.

  27. Wow. Only a week or two after Carter got on his knees to begged for Peyton Manning to give it to him. What utter garbage from a drug addled miscreant in the form of Carter. GARBAGE.

  28. The clown covers for Peyton with no proof, just cause. Then THIS? Cris Carter is a bleeping moron and a Patriots hater.

  29. Whether he’s right, or whether he’s wrong – he’s still Chris Carter…….and he’s still a buffoon. Nothing Chandler Jones does will ever change that.

Now the league MUST investigate what exactly happened at Gronk’s house and immediately hand out any applicable punishments. They must be drug tested, today. Why the media, including this article here, are yet again trying to make excuses for Patriots players, is beyond any rational belief. Gronk has gotten away with his immature behavior which is only a fraction of what Johnny Manziel gets blasted for, for far too long. It’s time to lay down the hammer!

  32. Dear Patriots Nation:

The time for honoring yourself will soon be at an end.

The NFL and the AFC in particular need a Pats cleansing and the Chiefs are just the team to deliver that enima.

This isn’t Andy Reid’s first rodeo either. Guess who doesn’t care if Gronk is hurt or healthy. Or if Jones is getting high. Or Edleman can cut on his broken foot. The Chiefs. They’re different this year. Eric Berry beat cancer for God sake. This is business for them. Unfinished business.

So tomorrow night when you’re quietly shuffling out of Gillette, don’t go away mad. Just go away. No excuses. No hate. No conspiracy. Just the end.

  33. I have watched Cris Carter on TV for years now, particularly when he did the NFL show on HBO.
I can sincerely say that not once have I heard him say something informative or insightful. Ever.
I don’t understand why they keep rolling him out.
I feel the same way about Ray Lewis now. But at least he is mesmerizing to watch and listen to. And the look on Steve Young during Ray’s pronouncements are precious.
    But I digress..
Cris Carter: smoke some PCP. Then you might be able to be mesmerizing like Ray.

  34. Chris Carter-Patriot hater and ESPN analyst..He is the biggest POS and knows nothing of which he speaks, just trying to stir the pot(no pun intended). Why get into this when ESPN has not spoken anything about HGH with Manning? Just trying to distract the Patriots and create more haters on their way to SB#5!

  35. I suspect that what Chris Carter knows about synthetic marijuana could be written on a post it note with a magic marker.

As another poster pointed out, the chemical composition of that stuff is constantly changing, so how on earth could he be so sure that there isn’t a strain out there now that could cause Jones’ behavior or have an addictive that makes it smell similar to real marijuana?

I would say that Chris Carter is about to learn that sometimes there are consequences to what you say on TV, but sadly that probably won’t be the case.

  36. Did reports say Jones smelled like weed? Synthetic weed doesn’t have that smell…….Jonas Gray sat for being late to a practice, right? I wonder how Bill will look at this situation….

  37. This is nothing but standard operating procedure of BSPN. When did they ever worry about the facts in a story about the Patriots. This still goes to NFL agenda and their impossibly stupid suit against Brady over NOTHING.

The NFL sends down the order to BSPN and they execute it. From the Mort Report to this. The truth doesn’t matter, just the innuendo. The trouble with them is that the smear attack has become so obvious most are laughing at their feeble attempt.

Is it any wonder why the Pats are so stand offish with the media. Meanwhile Manning hasn’t denied HGH was sent to the house. He hasn’t explained WHY it was sent, and no one at ESPN is asking.

  38. I am disappointed. I thought this would cause The New England Patriots Internet Defense Brigadiers to show up in a storm of indignity and conspiracy complaints. What is really funny is that I stopped watching ESPN years ago because they were too in love with all things New England, being headquartered in Bristol and all.

But ESPN hates the Patriots. Hmmmm ok suuuuuuuuure.

  39. Really sad thing to do to another player. Comparing Jones to Hernandez and making up a story out of thin air and broadcasting it nationally is really irresponsible. Jones is a good person, made a mistake and dealt with it the right way. Then he showed up to work on time and practiced in full every day. Carter should have done the same thing when he has problems earlier in his career and maybe he wouldn’t have been cut.

  40. Cris Carter isn’t exactly smart. If Jones was on PCP he wouldn’t be asking the police for help and not only that, but if he was on PCP he probably would have hurt somebody since that stuff gives you Superhuman strength. The new strains of Spice are deadly Jones fortunately didn’t get behind the wheel or jump out of the building. If you’re going to rip on Jones fine because what he did was stupid, but please don’t take the advice of someone who said everyone needs a fall guy as gospel.

  41. In a related story Chris Carter has no idea what synthetic marijuana can is or does.

Never trust a guy who has been sober for as long as he has to extoll the nuances of the modern drug scene.

As a previous commenter pointed out, some of that stuff is just shy of bath salts.

My best guess is that he wanted to get high, but not piss dirty…so synthetics are the way to go. He got some bad stuff and I’m guessing paid way too much for it too.

  42. Cris Carter seems to know an awful lot about drugs. Maybe he should stop speculating and actually try to look for some information to share with the public.

  43. If revolution breaks out in this country tomorrow, I hope the latter day Jacobins March off the entire ESPN on-air staff to the gallows. Everyone employed in that department is absolutely worthless. (And before anyone complains about their First Amendment rights being infringed, etc., just remember that the BSPNers don’t practice actual journalism.)

  44. The writer’s idea about speculation missed the mark entirely. Carter started by stating he did not know the facts. And, since he is an expert based on his own experience, all that he said merits being heard. BTW, regarding football, I seldom listen to him, or read what he says.

  45. It actually makes a lot more sense than the MARY JANE!!! In history, No one has ever OD on Weed! His actions suggest something more nefarious!! To add, being a Viking fan, I loved CC on the field, as a TV personality?? He is a Tool, but on this one, it makes sense!

  46. So it’s perfectly fine for someone to accuse Chandler Jones, based on no facts at all, of lying about what he did, smoking PCP (again with absolutely no proof to suggest that), and then comparing him to someone who murdered people? That’s not just a leap; that’s a jump off of a cliff. It’s really amazing to me that ESPN allows their employees to make statements like that because that could potentially lead to a lawsuit and a whole lot of embarrassment for the network. It’s sickening how far journalism has fallen. It’s not even about being right anymore; it’s about going over the top and making outrageous and sensational claims not even based on facts. Saying things like that can do irreparable harm to Chandler Jones’ reputation

Bro, you’re about 3 days behind with your info. Catch up or keep quiet about things you clearly aren’t informed on

  48. Typical of ESPN and their irresponsible reporting. Cris Carter knows no FACTS about what happened,so he just threw something purely speculative out there, speaking from his own experience, of course. The guy has serious foot-in-mouth disease. We get that all of you in Bristol hate the Patriots, but how about waiting until you have something solid before you say it on national TV? Not defending Chandler Jones by any means, but “Come on,man”.

  49. The Pats are already laying the groundwork for the excuse train because they FEAR The Chiefs. They realize the possibility of KC coming into Foxboro and delivering and ass whooping is very real. So let’s create as much controversy as we can so we can have an excuse to tell the world why we stumbled and got punked in our home field. Belichick’s black eye, Gronk getting phantom injections and missing practice, Jones having a melt down at the cop shop, what’s next is Brady going to be accused of having a secret love child with Beyoncé? I got to give it to Pats fans though they stick by their team no matter how bad the stink is smh.

  50. And maybe Carter is way closer to the truth than folks in New England are comfortable dealing with. Weed doesn’t have the effects described. Synthetic doesn’t have the scent that any cop or marijuana smoker would EASILY recognize. Normally when the inexperienced spew, they don’t know what they are talking about.

    ——–

we folks in NE understand that Chandler did whatever he did, and should deal with the consequences accordingly. BUT we don’t know what it was, and neither does Carter. and THAT is our problem with Carter.

why can’t you understand that? Much like Carter is doing about Jones, you’re making assumptions about us.

  53. Sorry, no. Nobody on PCP is going to walk into a police station and be cooperative. Also, everyone in the media needs to stop conflating synthetic marijuana with PCP. Tons of research shows that these synthetics can have serious negative psychotic effects on users, why is it so crazy to think that’s maybe what happened?

  54. ravenrich says: And maybe Carter is way closer to the truth than folks in New England are comfortable dealing with. Weed doesn’t have the effects described. And maybe he’s way off… you are basing your opinion on pure conjecture (and bias), just like Chris is–and are you speaking from experience?

  55. Chris Carter, the professional druggie of the NFL. Must have smoked it himself to know I guess.

  56. Chandler’s managed to stay out of jail on this one, let’s hope he gets past the league marijuana testing for the playoffs.

Goodell’s got his finger hovering above the ‘S’ button on his desk. If Chandler hasn’t done that much marijuana he’ll pass the test and there’s a chance Goodell won’t be able to water down the talent in the playoffs.

  57. Reckless comments from a supposed journalistic station, that is really a business partner and part of the marketing arm of the NFL.

Add this to his asinine comments at the NFL Rookie Symposium, and it’s clear ESPN needs to lose this loose lipped former player.

  58. I can state emphatically that Cris has some knowledge on synthetic marijuana, as his son used to buy copious amounts of Mr Nice Guy brand when he was in high school. I go a bit further on that above.

That said, he’s still uninformed, as he’s drawing his assumptions from his small sample size of experience.

  59. It may not have been good for Cris to have had his problems, but we’re not going to get this sort of insight from Cris COLLINSWORTH.

  60. Hee Hee..Sorry Pats’ fans, some of your trolls have been talking crap on other articles…

  61. Nobody uses PCP anymore.. Bath salts and synthetic marijuana can cause people to have same effects as LSD,PCP, or even ecstasy. This sounds like a guy who was drug addict in the 80’s guessing the drug from the side affects. What i think is funny though is all the Patriot fans who have this believe that BB doesn’t put up with funny business and yet i guarantee you CJ will play and never be punished but this whole story never make it to ESPN. What i ask is What if this was Cam Newton? Pretty sure ESPN would have a 30 for 30 within a week.. just sayn!

  64. Is there anything Carter won’t say to get his mug on TV? No wonder ESPN is getting gassed in the ratings game. I bet Mark Brunell would agree with this.

  65. This is more than unbelievable.

Yesterday, ESPN reported Gronk had an injection in his knee, this was refuted by the NFL Network.

We still have the 11 out of 12 balls Mort report still not taken down from their site.

And now this piece of speculation that is totally agenda driven by a true POS.

I find it incredible that ESPN thinks that putting out and allowing such garbage to emanate from their studios does any good.

Sure it has many people talking but reality is their agenda is so clear its cesspool journalism.

Why would they hate the Patriots so much, do they feel Kraft stiffed them in negotiations, and this will help?

    Where is Disney?

  66. To everyone who is calling Cris Carter a drug addict and shouldn’t be believed…. ummm last time I checked, drug addicts were pretty knowledgeable on the subject of drugs and drug use. I think he’s spot on actually.

  67. “So when he got to the police station, why was he smelling like marijuana? Because synthetic doesn’t smell like marijuana.”

LOL….we get it. unfortunately the cycle will go on and on.

  69. There’s a reason why fewer people are watching these liars every day and the had to fire 300 or 400 people last year.

Yet they remain clueless as to why they are losing viewers.

Haven’t had them on my TV since 2006 with the sole exception of when the Pats have been on Monday night football.

  70. I need to be more careful. I just pasted part of another commenter’s post into a technical document I’m working on.

  71. Carter will be the fall guy when ESPN gets sued.

lmao…there is nothing to sue about. He simply stated his opinion that Jones was not smoking synth. Whether you like what he has to say or not, he has every right to out and give his opinion on the situation.

The bigger picture is what is the league doing to do about Jones. Seems a 1 game suspension is fair if we look at past results.

aside from that, seems like Jones may have an issue, and judging from his brother, addictive personality disorder may run in the family.

And for the record, PCP would make him act the way he did, so far Carter to say he thinks this, that or the other thing, he is not totally incorrect in assuming that it could be PCP. Let’s be honest, the police very well could have changed up the story to protect a player, it happens all the time, all over the country

  72. This is why Cris Carter is probably or partially correct:

Cop went into Jones’ house and smelled 420. Synthetic weed doesn’t smell like 420 afaik, but more of a chemical smell. Therefore, something was spiked in his weed. What was it? We will never know until Jones retires.

No, I’m not a CC fan. He does make sense occasionally.

  73. What is the point of saying something like this besides to manufacture some controversy out of thin air? I’m sure the NFL is investigating and the truth will come out soon enough.

I’m not a Pats fan by any stretch and I still think this is just stupid. It’s bad reporting, and it all comes out of what I refer to as “The CNN Effect” (perhaps there is a real/better term for this, I don’t know).

When you have to report news non-stop, you have no choice but to start making crap up when there isn’t enough real news to report on so you can appease your viewers/customers. If it’s just endless speculating about the outcome of the game this weekend or what tactics a given team might employ, that’s fine. But this is way across the line because it’s targeting an individual’s character and making extreme accusations, based on nothing.

Maybe the guy was huffing paint laced with drain cleaner, I don’t know, but it’s not my place or anyone else’s place to start tossing around speculation about it. Report the facts and leave it at that until new facts present themselves.

  74. another solid reporting job by chris carter, there are two things we learned from this article

    1. chris carter doesnt need any facts to push a story

    2. chris carter has done PCP

hey chris tell us more how you think it was PCP and how you came up with such a specific drug to attach to your completely unfounded story

  75. For Cris Carter to make a statement like that is not only embarrassiong to the network but also reflects poorly on himself. To make baseless accusations is something I expect from butthurt children not grown men

  77. Another Patriot playoff game, another baseless story, with heaps of speculation, from a fraud of a network. Cris Carter obviously didn’t read the report either, it said the officer that went back to the condo to secure it, smelled the burnt marijuana. But let’s not let facts get in the way, instead let’s twist it to make the Pats look bad, without evidence, again.

Chandler + HIPAA = conspiracy and cover-up, we need to get to the bottom of this, and this cheating organization

Five Head’s wife + HIPAA = nothing to see here, the HGH shipments were legit, the source recanted (like because of his own HIPAA violation), move along

“I don’t always hate the Patriots, but when I do, I do it with a double standard.

  78. This was a headline mid november…

“Thirteen people were hospitalized in San Diego on Sunday after overdosing on “spice,” a variant of synthetic marijuana.”

  79. Billsfan

The bigger picture is what is the league doing to do about Jones. Seems a 1 game suspension is fair if we look at past results.

    ————————————————————-

I think what he did was incredibly stupid and outright selfish to pull a bonehead move smoking synthetic weed. With that said, a 1 game suspension ass you claim being fair looking at past results does in fact not apply. No one in the NFL caught smoking a legal or not legal drug for the first time can be suspended by the league.

Now if it was me, and i was Bill, I would suspend him.

  82. “The bigger picture is what is the league doing to do about Jones. Seems a 1 game suspension is fair if we look at past results.”

You clearly now nothing about how the nfl is structured so let me educate you.

    1. The league, owners and players operate under an agreement called the CBA or collective bargaining agreement.

    2. The CBA sets forth what players can be punished for an how much punishment may be issued.

    3. Recreational drugs are covered by the CBA. I do not believe synthetic marijuana is on the list of banned drugs and therefore the league should not be able to punish him at all for this.

    4. Even if it has been added to the banned list, Chandler Jones has no previous violations or incidents. Because of this Jones would be a first time violator of the recreational drug use policy in the CBA.

    5. First time violators of the recreational drug use policy are NEVER suspended. They are put into the league program with a higher level of monitoring / drug testing and I believe drug education classes.

Sorry Pats haters, just because you don’t like the Pats you don’t get to see your ridiculous double standards applied on Jones. He will not be suspended.

  83. PCP users often remove their clothing. What he said is actually the best explanation of what happened.

  84. From what I’ve read, people on PCP are not likely to surrender themselves peacefully to the police in order to request assistance. Reports on Chandler’s behavior are not consistent with how someone would behave under the influence of angel dust.

  85. “Chandler’s managed to stay out of jail on this one, let’s hope he gets past the league marijuana testing for the playoffs.”

Synthetic marijuana is legal in MA except the city of Boston. Jones was not in the city of Boston so there’s nothing to “manage avoiding jail” on.

And as I mentioned before, even if he were in violation of the CBAs recreational drug use policy, he’s a first time violator so no suspension. And I don’t believe the league has this drug on the banned substance list though it should be far more than real weed.

  86. Mad grace 8 . People still use PCP in the nations Capitol it’s still very popular. The kid who got killed in Chicago last year was on it.

  87. “Class D delta….” as stipulated by one of the attending officers present at Jones’ (or Gronkowski’s) residence, would include Luminal, which is one of a number of phenobarbital drugs, along with marijuana and butyl nitrite (i.e., poppers) which also fall under the Class D listing of controlled substances. Suffice it to say, only Chandler Jones knows what he took and why he took it (e.g., anxiety, depression etc.). Cris Carter really ought to just stick to commentary relating to football. “C’mon, man!”

  88. Pats fans need to get over themselves. No one is trying to frame you for anything. The dude walked into the police station freaking out.

Cris Carter saying Jones smoked PCP is as believable as MDS saying Jones didn’t smoke PCP. Actually, Carter has more evidence to support his statement than MDS has.

  89. Unfortunately for this bozo, some of us were around when he was young and did much worse.

Carter should just shut up, but he can’t.

  90. Carter is an idiot for speculating about something he has no details on – or perhaps that’s just what smoking PCP does to you

In Jones’ case what was described was consistent with what most EMTs have seen when people smoke “synthetic marijuana” – especially for the first time. Heart racing, erratic behavior, paranoia and a need to seek medical attention.

For football talking heads to still be making up “news” with no sources (other than Carter’s own PCP use) they should be ashamed of their low journalistic standards

The question of whether Peyton Manning smoked PCP while he was taking HGH should absolutely be investigated by Goodell though (as there’s just as much evidence Manning smoked PCP as there is about Jones)

  91. The guy shows up at a police station all strung out and out of it… yeah that’s real “baseless” speculation Patriots fans.

If Bell and Bryant had to sit, so should Chandler. End Patriots favoritism now!

  92. “So when he got to the police station, why was he smelling like marijuana? Because synthetic doesn’t smell like marijuana.
    ===
Synthetic smells like whatever they make it smell like. Mostly, it smells like the plant matter being used as a substrate. The “active ingredients” are just sprayed on top. There’s plenty of things that smell like MJ that aren’t.

  93. I wonder when Carter and Ray Lewis are going to learn how to form complete sentences. Reading a quote from either of them is next to impossible to decipher. Is gibberish a language?

  94. Look at all the pathetic loser cheatriot crybaby fans crying, they know their team sucks and are desperate to have this degenerate on the field.

Suspend this scumbag loser before he gets into a hit and run with a pregnant lady like his idiot brother he probably got the drugs from.

The “patriots” have done enough to disgrace the league with their constant cheating and employment of a drug abusing serial murderer.

Stop trying to sweep this under the rug if you want to pretend there ever was or will be anything respectable about your franchise utterly devoid of integrity.

  95. If Bell and Bryant had to sit, so should Chandler. End Patriots favoritism now!
    ===
Nope. If it was synthetic cannabis, it’s not banned, nor is it illegal. Stop asking for Roger to ignore the CBA. It makes you seem small.

  96. Carter say he better pay for the PCP or a suspension is going to the least of his problems. Dumb ass always got to have a fall guy..

  97. He would know – another useless hire at ESPN… he brings nothing to the table. Him and Ray Lewis were hired to give ESPN an edge. Yet ESPN can’t figure out why their ratings are down and people are finding other ways to get their sports.

  98. bottom line is…..

It doesn’t matter what the facts are, what NFL rules are, what the CBA language is – this is what will happen:

    – ESPN will speculate endlessly

    – Goodell will make up something new (the possibilities are endless)

    – 75% of non-Patriots fans will spew garbage about Jones (regardless of whether or not they actually believe what they spew – it will spew anyways)

  99. People really need to read the “2015 Policy and Program Substances of Abuse” document before commenting.

It only covers eight substances. Eight. If it’s not cocaine, marijuana (Delta 9-THC-carboxylic acid), amphetamines, opiates, opiods, PCP, MDMA, or alcohol, then it’s not covered by the NFL SoA policy. Sure, Roger the Dodger might come down with some code of conduct policy violation, but he’d be stretching it in this case, because there was no harm to 3rd parties, no citation, no arrest, and no adverse judicial action.

  100. I preface this by saying I am NOT a Patriots fan and hope the Chiefs kick their ass this weekend, HOWEVER, Chris Carter is WAY OUT OF LINE here.
First, he has absolutely no proof or evidence, just conjecture. You can get a debate on whether weed should be allowed or not but PCP has no debate whatsoever. Carter, in his “speculative gut feeling” just labeled Jones a user of PCP.

Second, he then compounds his stupidity by linking Jones, even though he attempts not to, to Aaron Hernandez, because well, “Hernandez smoked weed laced with PCP ” as well. So Jones is now a user of PCP, like former Patriot Aaron Hernandez, who is in jail for murder, who was on the same team so that strengthens Carter’s “case”??

Now Carter MAY be correct, but to make these statements without any facts is nothing less than disgusting. IF he is wrong, he should be sued and I truly hope he is.

  101. Wow. Just wow. ESPN is utterly shameless in the guys they will pay for alleged “analysis”.

Completely baseless speculation on a guy that, prior to this, had a squeaky clean record. Cris Carter is down there in the gutter of former players with Deion Sanders & Ray Lewis. Absolute pieces of human garbage.

    Sure, bash Chris and ESPN…

    he’s paid well to do a job…

    ratings leader…

What are you doing with your life?
    ——-

You don’t need to be a good person to be paid well to do a job.

  103. As much as I dislike the Patriots, I think this report from Carter is complete BS. He has absolutely no basis for his accusations besides his own personal experiences. It very presumptuous and naive of Carter to assume Chandler is in a spot as low as he once was. Maybe instead of throwing around accusations, Chris should extend his hand and try to help the kid….

  104. the picture of Cris in this story appears to seem that he’s on, I am speculating, so don’t freak out on me when I say this, but it looks like he just smoked crack

  105. What a piece of work CC is.
It could be exactly what happened, but for him to speculate on TV…that’s total BS.
The dude was toking in his own home. And don’t tell me “It’s illegal to ” ….not like a large % of the readers (including at least one U.S. President) don’t smoke.
But if you’re CJones…. just find a better connection

Tell me again why ANYONE watches ESPN?

    ——-

I watched back in September….I wanted to see Lester Munson’s response to Judge Berman’s decision.

    It was well worth it.

  107. Really all Chandler Jones needs to do is sign a HIPPA release to put all of this speculation to rest. Lets see his medical records. Right pats fan?

  108. He just didn’t handle things the patriots way… Cover up, denial, no comments to the press, and just let Belichick respond with stares and ridicule for those who dare ask questions.

  109. Carter really doesn’t provide much insight into anything. He just seems to be impressed with himself. That said, this was an extremely reckless comment.

  110. Since we’re speculating…..

Gronk and Jones are smoking weed with PCP. Jones freaks out and Gronk tries to restrain him. Jones uses his super PCP strength to toss Gronk around injuring his back and knee. Lying in a heap in the corner he dials his cell phone to call Belichek to come help. Bill shows up and gets punched in the eye by Jones still in a PCP rage. Bill stares him down and tells him to go turn himself into police.

Anyone notice how bitter NE fans have gotten? **************************

I think you meant to type “NE haters”.

    And yes, I’ve noticed.

NE fans are too busy waiting to watch Tom Brady hoist the Lombardi trophy right down the street from where he grew up.

    Enjoy!

  113. God Cris Carter thinks he knows everything. Sorry Cris you dont. The fact that his house smelled like weed means he probably didn’t smoke Pcp or Dust. Those 2 drugs have they’re very own distinct smell that is very easy to detect. It smells so strong that even if he was put on Marijuana (which 99% of the time it isnt) nobody would be smelling it over the chemical smell of the other drug. That stuff is potent that you can smell it from blocks away in an open city. There’s no way a cop walks into a house where someone has been getting wetted and only makes a note of a burnt Marijuana odor.

The fact is he probably had a bad reaction to a very strong strain of Marijuana and had a kind of paranoia based panic attack. Which can happen from time to time. Even to experienced users.

  114. Carter’s eyes misted up with memories of the good ol’ days talking about ‘his’ little angels.

“Better not be burned up on no kiddy-K2, bro. This is NFL; hope you was keeping it real.”

    That’s what Carter actually meant.

  115. Nice of Carter to blantantly make up details like that Jones showed up at the police station “smelling like marijuana”. What is your source Cris, since no article out there says this?

  116. The level of delusion, and fanatical, seething hatred for the Patriots on this site is absolutely hilarious.

You people are so completely obsessed with the Patriots it is bordering on psychosis at this point. The same 12 people have been posting literally hundreds of times in every single Patriots article like it is their job. Everything the Patriots do makes you melt down like little children anonymously on the internet.

    Your mothers would be proud.

    LMFAO

    Conspiracy, conspiracy!!!

What I remember Mr. Baby, is you relentlessly promising that Brady wouldn’t be able to throw the ball and the Pats fumble rate would skyrocket. And you were completely wrong about every aspect of deflategate and the Pat’s fumble rates. But you are too much of an insecure little chicken to admit it. Instead you come back on a Patriots thread to resume your childish trolling. What’s the matter, is the pathetic team you root for already eliminated from the playoffs again?

As as far as credibility goes, you shot your load little whiner.

And by the way, no real Patriots fan would be so stupid as to promise something impossible, like an undefeated season.

That’s right! No way. You can trust the Patriots, it’s Manning that can’t be trusted. He should release his and his wife’s records! Even if the dummy who told the story did make it up, Manning must be guilty of some kind of cheating, because everyone does, not just Brady and the Patriots.

  119. Anybody who has dealt with drug abuse in their family would agree with Carters general point: Don’t believe anything that you hear out of a drug abusers mouth! Chris is showing love by going at Jones HARD. My only issue is that Chris Carter has the ways and means to do it man-to-man. Doing it in the media serves little purpose. I hope Carter doesn’t give up after all of this criticism. Jones needs to be checked, now. Carter has all of the credentials to deliver some real help. Hopefully, Chris will put away that media gig, and step up in a more personal, meaningful way.

This guy has the intellectual acumen of a tree stump.

    ———–
So then Carter + Ray Lewis = 2 tree stumps. Are they what ESPN considers “talent”?

  121. I like how most people here are deflecting when the real story is this idiot smoking or doing whatever a few days before a playoff game. 👏🏼

  122. Chandler Jones is good m’kay. But he did something bad m’kay. And that was drugs m’kay.

  123. Let’s just say what everyone is thinking,

Carter still has a job because he stopped one micron short of what Rob Parker said.

Consider how many TV & radio types have lost their jobs for less than what Carter has said. Common denominator?

You know, we just can’t say it out loud.

Most intelligent NE fans aren’t saying anything but how stupid it was and how, despite his stupid choice, did the right thing and turned himself in.

But credit is never expected here, only criticism by Hateroids who have nothing else in their pathetic lives.

  125. That is all CC does is speculate. That is such an unprofessional Network. And one of the reasons why AD wanted to slap the taste out of CC’s mouth.
