Seahawks not bothered by Panthers celebrations

At points this season, celebrations by Panthers players after touchdowns and big plays have rankled some of their opponents.

After the Titans took issue with quarterback Cam Newton’s dancing, Newton said teams need to do a better job of stopping him if they don’t want him celebrating in the end zone. The Seahawks got a taste of the Panthers’ exuberance in a 27-23 regular season loss, but that hasn’t led them to disagree with Newton’s take.

Cornerback Richard Sherman said that you “deserve the right to celebrate” if you get into the end zone in an NFL game. Defensive end Michael Bennett said that the Panthers “should rub it in” if a defense is unable to stop them.

“More people worry about them dancing [more] than stopping them,” Bennett said, via ESPN.com. “When you stop a team, they can’t do what you don’t want them to do. When Cam made that point, I thought he made a good point. I think if you don’t want a guy dancing in the end zone, it’s real simple. Don’t let them get to the end zone. I think that’s what you have to do when you’re playing against this team.”

It’s not a bad strategy when facing any team and the Seahawks will be the team dancing the night away if they can pull it off on Sunday afternoon.

  1. Seattle players celebrate every single play no matter how trivial. There is not a team out there that celebrates the me first/aren’t I great/ look what I did BS that Seattle trots out there on seemingly every down.

  2. As long as the Carolina Kittens don’t get upset when the Seattle D is doing a pick 6 dance 2 – 3 times this Sunday!

  3. They won’t be doing much dancing this sunday. Seahawks are going to crush the souls of Carolina, and it’s going to be hilarious.

    Everyone acting like The Panthers are special, here’s a newsflash. Outside of Seattle and Green Bay, here are the cream puffs Carolina played;

    1. Jaguars
    2.Texans
    3.Saints(2x)
    4.Bucs(2x)
    5.Eagles
    6.Colts
    7.Titans
    8.Redskins
    9.Cowboys
    10.Falcons(2x)
    11.GIants

Someone tally up the record of these chumps and report back to The Panthers bandwagon immediately.

  4. Never anything wrong with TD celebrations, big plays in momentum swings on offense, defensive stops or sacks when not down by a huge amount. This is the professional game, it’s all part of the “experience” the league sells. These guys are entertainers. Don’t want to see a guy celebrating ,do your job and don’t give them a reason to celebrate.

As a diehard Hawks fan you made my day. Both teams are good and both teams can win but you really did make my day. Just happy I didn’t have to die not seeing a Seahawks championship. Now I want more. Go Hawks!!!

  7. Cam will lay a 40-burger on the Seahags, let’s see how tired of his celebrations they are by the end of this curb-stomping.

  8. TD dances are one thing…

…fully choreographed 30 second dances in a blowout loss followed by high fiving fans, running around the entire end zone and taking selfies is another.

Last I checked they were all NFL teams chump

  10. As a football fan, I can’t wait for this game.
Should be the best game of the weekend, hands down.

  11. Panthers fans may want to watch Soul Train reruns instead of the game. There won’t be any dancing against Seattle this week.

    All right –
Let’s put this garbage to bed right now. I’ve been hearing this all week. Instead of spouting off the low strength of Carolina’s schedule, which they can’t affect (except for lowering it by beating everyone at least once), why don’t we look at the win percentage of teams they beat.

Win % of teams Carolina beat: .441
Win % of teams Seattle beat: .445

Now tell me how Carolina feasted on bad teams while Seattle played a nightmare schedule.

  13. Who talks more smack than Seattle? Who celebrates more than Carolina? If for some reason neither teams’ Defense shows up, the end zones could look like a scene from Breakin’

  14. It’s amazing how reporters try to manufacture a controversy. More and more the people who have a problem with celebrations are fading away and the ones who say, “don’t like it-stop’em”, group is growing.

Makes no sense to get mad over celebrations.

    Horsecrap

  16. celebrations are just stupid… there’s a serious risk of losing 15 yards and turning a game against you on a dime….

any time I see one of those, I roll my eyes and think: wow, I would have much more respect for you and let my kid buy your jersey if you would simply show some class

  17. The Panthers penchant for celebrations will just make their loss this weekend all the more fun!

  18. Lol you guys talk about who the Panthers played but…. You really should have lost to Detroit and Minnesota! That’s 8 losses compared to a team that lost 1! You play who is on your schedule.. It would be awkward if you showed up in Arizona or New England uninvited right? Talking about cream puffs when you got to play against Jimmy Clausen twice lmao!!

  19. Let them celebrate. Neither will get by the Cardinals.
    ———————–

Did you happen to see the Cardinals’ last game of the season? And that was while they were fighting for #1 seed. I think you may want to concentrate on Green Bay….

  20. Let’s face it–Cam Newton has an amazing record in the playoffs. He will certainly be doing lots of dancing. I mean, this guy knows how to get it done when it’s playoff time. Anybody has to honor that kind of success.

It is not easy to have a record of 1-2.

  21. Man I despise many Seahawks, mostly Bennett, but boy are he and Sherman spot on in their comments. Couldn’t have said it any better. Way to go you two

  22. I’ve seen Cam celebrate TDs while down multiple scores which actually turned out to be more excessive than the celebration the Saints had after winning the Super Bowl lol

  23. “More people worry about them dancing [more] than stopping them,” Bennett said, via ESPN.com. “When you stop a team, they can’t do what you don’t want them to do. I think that’s what you have to do when you’re playing against this team.”

Did Michael Bennett just make a serious comment?

  24. I’m for the most part okay with a simple outburst of emotion immediately following a big play but there are certain aspects of a lot of these celebrations that I despise.

    – Anything lasting longer than 2 seconds should draw a flag.

    – Anything choreographed should draw a flag.

-Anything involving more than one person should draw a flag.

    – Celebrating a big play when your team is down by multiple scores should draw a flag… and a beating.

  25. Jesus people.. you do realize you “grown men” are crying over someone (who is 2nd in the league in rushing td’s) celebrating? And saying hes immature for doing it? Grow up. Im gonna write down all these user names that are saying Panthers are 1 and done also. This stuff is ridiculous. Sorry your team isnt even playing this weekend.

Also im a season ticket holder so keep your bandwagon argument for someone else. See you at the game sunday you losers.

  26. By looking at the jawing and hot air from the “talkers” my guess the average age on this board is 19-24. Males, except someone like Jordan Spieth rarely mature until their late 20’s to early 30’s the few that do mature early act it. This board is fun but this will be 2 good teams fairly match that will come to play. Fewest turnovers and highest redzone percentage without settling for field goals wins.

  27. Odd thing is, the Seahawks couldn’t care less, it’s all about fans of teams that are on the couch eating cheetos crumbs, that seem to be worried.

All about the yahoos who should be in Oregon helping to open the care packages sent to the crackpots at war with the gubment. Maybe it’s more about who’s actually getting into the endzone, rather than what they do once getting there.

  28. “This is the actual Super Bowl.”

    Um, no.

Seattle was lucky to get past Minnesota.

I’d put more stock in GB/AZ game as a SB preview than that game, and I don’t look at that as the mock SB game.

  29. There is the problem, Oh I don’t care if he celebrates but if we stop them we should rub it in! Let’s face it The best QB’s in the league in the past 4-5 years Brady Manning, Big Ben Arron .. ok toss in Newton now if yoyu want ot be that bold. . How many of the best QB’s dance and carry on after a score. Ahhhh ONE ! that’s how many, and don’t give me this oh it’s a boring league it is good for the fans. No it ain’t I have a bunch of friends I watch games with and all of them want it to stop, and the most likely way of it to stop in the long term is injury. So I guess based on that, a good number of fans might want him to get hurt, but for me the best would have him suffer a career ending injury just like Matin Gramatica did. Jumping up and down after a score and opps all done.

  30. Funny ….. the Seahawks didn’t seem to care much for endzone celebrations at the end of that last Super Bowl 😉

I guess anyone can pick any stat that suits their purpose, like the fact that Seattle’s opponents ended up with a combined WINNING record of 133-123. Yet, the lowly Panthers played against opponents with a combined LOSING record of 113-143. OR, the opponents each team Lost to: Seattle lost to teams with a combined .666 Ave, while Carolina lost to a .500 team.

Funny….the Panthers didn’t seem to do much celebrating in the last Super Bowl. Oh, that’s right, you have to be good enough to Get To the Super Bowl, before you can celebrate in the End Zone. Seattle is on it’s way to their 3rd Super Bowl in a row, and Carolina will be little more than a speed bump on the way.

Seahawks shouldn’t even be in the playoffs. If the refs hadn’t have blown that obvious call at the end of the Lions game they wouldn’t be
    ________________________________

And, IF…IF…IF. Maybe MegaFlop should learn to hang onto the ball. Batting is a judgement call, and the ball was going out of the end zone on it’s own, with now cowardly lions anywhere around. So, the alleged batting, had no effect on the outcome of the game. Get over it.

    ______________

Since you asked, metrics like DVOA take into account not only your opponent’s records, but the record of your opponents’ opponents. The reason being that if you are in an easy division then the teams you’re using for your calculation of a win percentage are also playing easy schedules. Live in your dream world until Sunday, though. Seattle will blow out Carolina – its not going to be close.

Finally, something I can respect the Seahawks for.

    LETS GO PANTHERSSSSSS
    ________________________
This made me laugh. Would you still respect them if you knew they only allowed one offensive touchdown in their last six away games and are on a 6 game road winning streak? They don’t intend to let Newton into the end zone to celebrate.

  37. Seahawks will put up good numbers but this is Cams year. He does act out a little too much but what the heck who can stop him!? It’s like the Blues Brothers they are on a mission!

  38. seattleisNOTbetterthanyourcity: NOT!!!, again and again and again!!! And I resent that you assume I am a man! I have been following football religiously since I was ten, now going on 50, and I do know of what I speak. I am a well educated registered nurse with advanced degrees. So, do not speak down to me. Again, I don’t “follow” the Seahawks. It is difficult , however, not to see them as we are constantly reminded by the media of how “great” they are. I am not a Patriots fan by any means, but you have no idea how joyed I was when I saw “lucky boy” RW throw that interception at the end of the SB last year. So, just think of that every time you make fun of Blair Walsh missing that field goal!!! SB/playoff game Hmmmmmm………

Really? Who? Absolutely nobody on offense celebrates anything with a dance. I can think of only two Seahawks players – both on defense – with any kind of a consistent dance: Bennett’s sack-sual healing sack dance and Mebane’s belly roll sack dance. That’s it. Not exactly the Broadway review that Cam puts on whenever he scores.
