Good news? The Patriots won, thanks in part to the return of receiver Julian Edelman. Bad news? Edelman’s availability for the AFC title game immediately is in doubt.

Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald reports that Edelman was spotted en route to the X-ray room at Gillette Stadium after New England’s 27-20 win over the Chiefs.

Edelman missed seven games after breaking a bone in his foot against the Giants on November 15. It’s unclear whether the foot or another body part is being examined. One of the primary risks of returning from a so-called Jones fracture of the fifth metatarsal is that it could break again more easily.

Edelman had 10 catches for 100 yards on Saturday. For the season, the Patriots are 10-0 with Edelman, and 3-4 without him.

UPDATE 8:46 p.m. ET: Edelman told reporters he didn’t need an X-ray. That doesn’t mean he didn’t have one. Indeed, when asked to clarify the issue, Edelman said he’s not allowed to talk about injuries, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN.com.
