The Lions will hire David Walker as their running backs coach, Alex Marvez of FOX Sports reported Saturday.

Walker has history with Lions coach Jim Caldwell. He was the Colts running backs coach from 2011-14.

He’ll replace Curtis Modkins, who left the Lions earlier this week to become offensive coordinator with the 49ers. Modkins had spent three seasons with the Lions.

Walker, 46, was a college coach for 15 years before joining the Colts. With the Lions he’ll be charged with jumpstarting a running backs group that averaged a league-low 83.4 rushing yards per game last season.
