Before the Eagles hired Doug Pederson as their new head coach, they spoke to a couple of candidates who spent the 2015 season with the Giants in Ben McAdoo and Tom Coughlin.
Neither man wound up with the Eagles, but it looks like one member of the 2015 Eagles staff will be heading to the Giants. Adam Caplan of ESPN was the first to report that Bill McGovern will be McAdoo’s linebackers coach next season.
The Giants spoke to Mike Singletary about the job before deciding on McGovern, who spent the last three years coaching linebackers with the Eagles. He spent the previous 13 years at Boston College, where he served as linebackers coach before becoming the defensive coordinator from 2009 to 2012. He coached current Giants linebacker Mark Herzlich and Panthers star Luke Kuechly among others at BC.
The Giants have not officially announced any staffing changes since hiring McAdoo, but most of the staff is in place. Steve Spagnuolo and Tom Quinn will remain the defensive coordinator and special teams coordinator, respectively, with quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan getting bumped up to offensive coordinator.
