When linebacker Jon Beason has been healthy during his three years with the Giants, he has been one of their most effective defensive players.

As you could probably guess by that opening, Beason hasn’t been healthy all that often. He has missed 23 games over the last two seasons because of injuries, which have been a problem dating back to his last few years with the Panthers.

Beason is signed for one more year with the Giants, carrying a cap hit of just under $6 million and says he “absolutely” wants to remain with the team in 2016. He is set for knee surgery in the near future, however, and he won’t be making any plans about continuing his career until that’s done.
“I have to have a little procedure on my knee, go through the rehab and make a decision based on that,” Beason said on Mad Dog Radio with Adam Schein. “I do realize that it’s been pretty consistent the latter part of my career with injuries and I just want to be honest with myself and see if I can still play at the same level.”

Beason said he knows that the early March start of the league year puts a timeframe on that decision as far as the Giants are concerned. Of course, the Giants may look at Beason’s recent injury history and decide that to move in a different direction even if Beason does decide to return for a 10th NFL season.
