Broncos executive Tom Heckert has been on medical leave

Tom Heckert

As the Broncos made their push for the playoffs, the No. 1 seed, and the Super Bowl, they were doing so without one of their top football executives.

Mike Klis of 9News in Denver explains that director of pro personnel Tom Heckert has been on medical leave during the second half of the 2015 season.

“I was recently diagnosed with a very treatable blood disorder,” Heckert said, via Klis. “I’m feeling better every day as a result of the treatments and hope to get back to work in the near future. The Broncos’ organization -- in particular John Elway, Matt Russell and Joe Ellis -- have been extremely supportive and accommodating during the last few months. I sincerely appreciate everyone’s kind thoughts and will be rooting for the Broncos to bring home a Super Bowl win.”

Heckert, 48, had heart surgery four years ago while serving as G.M. of the Browns. He previously worked for the Eagles, as General Manager.

We wish Tom a quick and complete recovery.
