Former Miami Hurricanes head coach Al Golden has found work in the NFL.

The Lions have announced that Golden is their new tight ends coach.

Golden was fired in the middle of the season last year after going 32-25 in four and a half seasons coaching the Hurricanes. He previously spent five seasons as head coach at Temple.

This is Golden’s first NFL job since a brief stint as a tight end in Patriots camp as an undrafted rookie tight end in 1992. Golden has never played or coached in an NFL regular-season game.

Golden’s hiring is the second time this week that the Lions hired a recently fired college head coach. Detroit also added former Maryland coach Randy Edsall to its front office.

Shortly after the announcement of Golden’s hiring, Lions tight end Eric Ebron pointed out on Twitter that Golden knows who he’ll be coaching: When Ebron was at North Carolina in 2013, he had 199 receiving yards against Golden’s Hurricanes.
