Dallas Police: No charges to be filed against Johnny Manziel

AP

Dallas Police have closed the investigation against Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel and will not file charges regarding an incident with Manziel’s ex-girlfriend last weekend.

“The Dallas Police Department has conducted the appropriate investigative follow-up to the report forwarded to us by the Ft. Worth Police Department regarding an alleged incident involving Johnny Manziel,” the police said in a statement, via Adam Schefter of ESPN.com. “Investigative efforts to date have not resulted in the filing of a criminal complaint and the incident is determined to be closed. No further statement is expected at this time.”

Manziel’s ex-girlfriend alleged that Manziel grabbed her by the hair and threw her into a car. He also then hit her with an open hand on her left ear, which affected her hearing in the aftermath.

However, Dallas Police have apparently found a lack of evidence to pursue the matter any further. Nevertheless, Manziel has an incredible knack to find himself in bad situations. It’s only a matter of time until he’s no longer employed by the Browns.

  1. Dude is a waste of talent, and that is too bad. I gave him the benefit of the doubt until late last season. That being said, and I hate to say this one, but some day someone is probably really going to give him a tune-up.

  2. It looks like the Dallas police are prepared for the arrival of Johnny Football. It’s scary, but I feel like the quote from his dad was right: “this thing is going to end up with a phone dangling from the cellblock. Then, it will all be over.”

I’ve always had a special place in my heart for this football player. I really want him to succeed. Men his age just not have the brain development to fully understand risk. 20 years from now he’ll be shocked at this behavior.

I hope his dad was wrong and someone can steer this guy to humility, truthfulness, loyalty, self-control and other positive traits.

But I’m afraid in Texas, when you hit a woman, the prosecutor is going to try to make an example out of a celebrity.

  3. No sense in arresting the next QB for the Cowboys – joining Greg Hardy as yet another leader and role model for all Cowboys fans (at least according to your owner)

Nah. In Texas if you hit a woman either her daddy or her brother or some other guy will come looking for you with a gun.

  5. my team really needs a qb we have had no luck in finding a capable one, if he becomes a ram i will root for him otherwise i will pray for him because he is one false step from being found shot or stabbed!!

  6. The double standard of the criminal justice system in this nation is despicable. The rap sheet this guy built in college, would have a person of color, on 30/30 explaining why he never made it to the NFL – from his prison cell interview.

In a country where a 12 year old child is killed by police. this dude has a get outta jail-free card. America should be ashamed.

  7. I dont see it as a get out of free card..how do u know the ex girlfriend is being honest..anyone can accuse anyone of anything..thats why there is a justice system..

  8. once again for all the things he is accused of the only thing he has done that can be confirmed is have a good time. and for that he is crucified by the football experts and media? you do not think the cops would love to have something concrete to pin on him so they can arrest him? for the record he has never been arrested for anything he has been accused of yet he is the worst human being ever to wear a football uniform? he did not get to do anything for the browns because the coach never wanted him! if he signs with the cowboys at least he will know his role and be able to go about his business without all the attention his every move got with the browns. he can’t possibly be any worse than the backups the cowboys have employed over the years.

  9. Texas justice. Beat your kid….beat your ex-girlfriend?….the penalty flag gets picked up.

  10. I don’t understand why Cleveland would make it so easy for Maziel to get what he wants. If Dallas wants him so badly, make them trade a mid-round pick for him. Or, if they want to stick it to Johnny, trade him for a seventh rounder to some other team in NFL purgatory, like the 49ers. Heck, I’d keep him and let him ride the bench in Cleveland before releasing him so he can go to Dallas free of charge.

  11. Wow, the Dallas police decided not to press charges against the hometown football hero, who’s also the son of a Texas oil billionaire. This is my shocked face; (O.O)

  12. However, Dallas Police have apparently found a lack of evidence to pursue the matter any further.

I’m sure the money his daddy paid them to make it go away had nothing to do with him not being charged.

  13. Remember…it’s POSSIBLE the girlfriend is a whack job too and most of her story is made up.

Yeah that. Or there’s not enough evidence to charge. Big difference and under no circumstance does he deserve the benefit of the doubt

  14. There’s no legal proof he committed a crime. He may or may not have done it. Truth is, if he wasn’t arrested immediately, the was never much of a case.

  15. I’ve said it over and over, his ex is a nut and a enabler. She’s involved in everything that gets him zapped. Mind you he’s pretty weak to allow it, but she’s his source issue. Anyone who crashes your rehab to party doesn’t have your best interest at heart.

  16. Chek out Coleen Crowley’s pictures, then tell us she’s 100% reliable. She must have some magical hold over JM. Drop her Johnny, there’s a million chicks a lot hotter than CC waiting for you.

  17. The police must not have found the girlfriend’s story to be credible. It makes me think she could have exaggerated her story or even completely made it up. Before the NFL disciplines anyone, they should have a chance to defend themselves. I personally would like to see the NFL get out of the law enforcement and social work business and concentrate on the product on the field. They could start by hiring full time referees and training them to call a better game.

  18. By no means am I defended his actions,….but how reliable is the “ex-girlfriends” testimony, after all she was dating Johnny Manziel,…not the sharpest tool in the shed,..

  19. Police in both Dallas and Ft. Worth have made it very clear that they are quite frustrated with this case. However, since the “girlfriend” won’t cooperate with investigators and there are no other witnesses, what can they do? Without testimony from the “girlfriend” or other witnesses, he’d never be convicted. Now, when the woman is found beat half to death (or worse) I hope she understands that people like me will have little sympathy for her.

  20. Striking a girlfriend “several times” and threatening to kill her translates to no charges being filed???

And the enabling of this freak of nature continues. What is it about Texas and Affluenza run amok?

  21. Maybe it’s just me, but is it possible that this woman is just gold digging at this point or just simply scorned?

Not to make excuses for Johnny, but in this particular instance, she may be the crazier of the two.

  22. If it wasn’t for Jerry Jones, NOBODY would be talking about Dallas and this clown would have to clean up his act in the place that drafted him if he ever wants to play football.

  23. No arrest. Just it being Johnny is enough evidence! Dallas police are all Cowboy fans and they want to sign Johnny.

  25. When he kills himself driving drunk, let’s hope he doesn’t take any innocent people with him.

  26. In other news: Construction started yesterday @ AT&T Stadium on a new posh suite. The alleged tenants are the Dallas PD.

  27. 2 & 6 in games as starting QB
    QB rating of 74.4
    7 TD – 7 INT
    57 % completion rate
46 rushing attempts for 5 yard avg

I really don’t know what all the fluff and huff and puff is all about when it comes to this QB.

  28. Striking a girlfriend “several times” and threatening to kill her translates to no charges being filed???

—Yeah, it’s all because of that crazy lack of evidence thing.

  29. He’s never actually been arrested, would it surprise anyone if all of this was just an elaborate scheme to get out of Cleveland. He didn’t exactly have the family name to pull an Eli and say I’m not going to play for you. How many QBs have been ruined by the distinction in Cleveland? It would make a good story for him to “find God” with another team. Guess time will tell. It does seem rather suspicious that this woman seems to stick by him she’s now gone from girlfriend to fiance.
