Peyton says future can wait, “a lot of beer” comes first

AP

Peyton Manning could go out on top, and just about everybody thinks he will retire.

But Manning isn’t ready to say anything about his future.

The Broncos won the Super Bowl Sunday night, but in two televised on-field interviews after the game Manning wouldn’t say if he’ll play again.

“I got some good advice from Tony Dungy, and that’s not to make an emotional decision,” Manning told CBS on the celebration podium. “I want to go kiss my wife, kiss my kids, and celebrate with my teammates. I’m going to take a lot of beer tonight.”

He’d dropped a Budweiser reference — probably one he got paid for — in a previous interview. Manning isn’t saying much and doesn’t need to.

Beer and hugs come first. His future can wait.

  1. The Broncos now have as many Super Bowl wins as they have Hall of Famers.

    Total joke East Coast bias.

  2. I don’t remember Peyton making himself gold MVP spikes to symbolize an award given to him. I will remember him for having EARNED 2 Super Bowls and remaining humble.

  3. Manning is a CASH COW BOSS!!! I guarantee Budweiser is paying him double digit millions or some ownership for cracking two jokes specifically naming them as his beer of choice and how he was going to drink a ton tonight… NO ONE DRINKS BUD on purpose thats one of the crappiest beers on the market!

  4. He knows that he is on his way to irrelevancy, so he’ll let it drag out. That way, PFT will be posting “will he, won’t he” articles for the next few months. But the reality is that no team wants him. So it’s not really his choice, but he’ll position it like that.

  5. Shameless shilling for a horrible product but nothing he’s not used to with Papa John’s. Also kind of ironic since a big ad from Budweiser preaching moderation had aired not even an hour before.

  6. True to form, Manning was not gonna make the moment about him…he has consistently said that he has been along for the ride this year…even though I am not a fan of the teams Manning has played for, I am a Peyton Manning fan…no amount of HGH hogwash can change the fact that he is a class act, and will he will be a first ballot HOFer.

    This Steelers’s fan says congrats….

  7. Anyone notice him shaking the hand of “Papa John” before the handshakes? And paid by Budweiser? Why not.

Good for Manning as a fellow mid 70’s born guy.

Newton not diving into the pile was pathetic. Norman crying like a baby was pretty good though.

  8. Glad he got another ring. Ya, he’s not in the 4Wide-up tempo-checking plays@the line offense that we’ve come to love watching, but playing a team game and allowing his D and running game take pressure off him in Kubs O. He’s one of the All Time Great Players and I’m honestly happy that he’ll at least be in the conversation.
Congrats to him, Denver players/personal and Fans.

  9. PM got at least $500k to plug Budweiser there, it’s a great gig if you can get it, sign me up

  10. How much would The Commish have fined him if he said Miller or Coors Lite? $250,000? $500,000?

  11. That is legimately the only acceptable answer for me and I hate the Broncos… Go Raiders.

  12. Haters gonna hate. That’s what this win does when a team is dominated.

I guess Cam wasnt so scary to white America today. He isn’t the first QB with his talent, he’s just the latest. Cam keep learning, and hopefully your gm doesn’t hang you with such crappy talent on the boundary.

  13. Shameless shilling for a horrible product but nothing he’s not used to with Papa John’s. Also kind of ironic since a big ad from Budweiser preaching moderation had aired not even an hour before.

I’m pretty sure the bud commercial was drinking and driving.. But as u were

  14. Imagine the Panthers won. Imagine Cam said he was going to drink a bottle of Hennessy. Imagine the reaction…. 🤔🤔🤔

  15. “First though, I want to go find my wife and kids and kiss my Budweiser!” Dude would make a wonderful presidencial candidate. He’s already a shill for the corporation.

    Go AFC!

I don’t know. He already does a dance after every TD that glorifies drug use (check the urban dictionary definition of “dabbing”) and he still seems to be pretty popular. So…

  17. he deserves it class act all the way! and like anyone on this site wouldn’t do the same. I mean isn’t doing the same. congrats to the broncos organization and fans from a humble Vikings fan!

  18. By avoiding answering the retirement question he kept the attention on the team winning which is where it belongs. If that had been Cam there’d have been some special retirement dance and song.

  19. Get it right – he said Budweiser both times. At the podium, he said “beer” and then hastily added “Budweiser” a moment later, which was partially talked over but still audible. Sounded like he forgot his line for a moment and then rushed it in before moving on.

  20. The guy is smart. He is headed out the door what is Roger going to fine him? Peyton has a financial interest in AB distributors, move more product ,make more money.

  21. Too bad he is endorsing such a Crappy Beer or ANY Beer for that matter.

Alcohol is a bad problem for impressionable kids today. It’s a little unbecoming and Beneath Peyton to make money that way.

Can’t blame him for making $500,000 to do it though. Hope he Donates that Money to Charity. I Would have rather him be honest and say he was going to have a Coke and a Smile!!! Glad He Won and Cam Lost!!!

  22. Budweiser is disgusting. I hope when he really does drink a beer, it is a much better one than that.

  23. I thought he was being paid by Budweiser, which is a no-no since active NFL players can not endorse alcohol products for money. Turns out he owns part of two Anhauser Busch distributors. Pimping his own companies, love it.

  24. Does he go out with class on top like Elway, or does he pull Brett Favre and linger on from team to team. He could go to the he LA Lambs and then next January regret not retiring in February. Stay classy Peyton, stay classy!
