Jets waive Kyle Brindza

The Jets signed kicker Kyle Brindza earlier this month to compete for the team’s kicking job this offseason, but they’ll have to look in another direction for someone to fill that role.

Brindza tore his Achilles during a workout, which will leave him with a lot of rehab work to do in the coming months. As a result of the injury, the Jets announced on Thursday that they have waived Brindza from the roster.

Brindza opened the 2015 season as the Buccaneers kicker, but was waived four weeks into the season after missing six field goals and two extra points.

Nick Folk, who ended the season on injured reserve with a torn quad, remains under contract for next season. Randy Bullock was signed to replace Folk and he’s set to become a free agent next month.
