One of the benefits of getting released by a team between the Super Bowl and the start of the new league year is that there are fewer players available on the open market while you look for a new job.
Cornerback Brice McCain is trying to use that situation to his advantage this week. McCain was released by the Dolphins last week and he’s reportedly staying in Florida for his first free agent visit.
Jason Cole of Bleacher Report reports that McCain is scheduled for a visit with the Buccaneers on Thursday. Cole reports that McCain has also lined up another visit in the coming days, although the team he’s slated to speak to isn’t named.
McCain started 11 games for the Dolphins after signing with the team as a free agent last offseason. He saw much of his time in the slot while intercepting one pass and defending 10 others in a performance the team didn’t find to be worth a second season in Miami.
With Sterling Moore and Mike Jenkins headed for free agency and a need to improve over last year’s performance, cornerback figures to be a busy area for the Buccaneers this offseason.
