After his team’s season ended with a playoff loss to the Broncos, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said that safety Mike Mitchell would be one of several players having offseason surgery.

Tomlin said Mitchell needed surgery on his left shoulder, but that turned out to be only half the story. Mitchell also had surgery on his left hand, which was wrapped when he was spotted in Pittsburgh on Friday.

Mitchell’s response to a question about whether he’ll be ready for the start of offseason workouts indicated that all will be well when it is time to get back to work.

“If I was any better, I’d be you,” Mitchell said, via the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Mitchell is one of the few regulars from the Pittsburgh defensive backfield under contract for the 2016 season. Fellow starting safety Will Allen, backup safety Robert Golden and three cornerbacks are all set to become free agents.
