With Marcus Mariota already in Tennessee, there’s been talk about the Titans trading out of the first overall pick in the draft in a deal with a team looking for their own potential franchise quarterback.

They aren’t the only team at the top of the first round that could be looking to drop further down the order. The Chargers don’t have a young quarterback, but there aren’t any retirement ceremonies scheduled for Philip Rivers at this point so a quarterback-needy team could also target that spot to move up for a player like Carson Wentz or Jared Goff.

Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the Chargers are open to trading their highest pick since 2004, when they traded first overall pick Eli Manning to the Giants for Rivers and draft picks. The Chargers also had the top pick in 2001 and traded it to Atlanta. The Falcons took Michael Vick while the Chargers ended up with Drew Brees, LaDainian Tomlinson and other pieces.

Getting that kind of return in a trade would be quite appealing to the Chargers and most other teams, which makes finding a partner willing to make that kind of offer difficult. If Wentz, Goff or someone else dazzle teams in the next couple of months, someone might make such a pitch to the Chargers but more often than not in recent years talk of teams high in the draft being open to trading down amounts to little come draft day.
