Three years ago, the Ravens and quarterback Joe Flacco negotiated a record contract. Today, the two sides have worked out another new contract.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Ravens and Flacco have agreed to terms on a contract that will reduce his $28.55 million cap number for 2016.

Flacco made $62 million from 2013 through 2015, with only $36 million of it hitting the cap. The prior deal averaged $20.1 million per year. It’s not yet known what the new contract is worth.

It’s possible that Flacco will set a new high-water mark for quarterbacks. In three years since Flacco’s last contract, no one has gotten more than $20.1 million on a contract assessed from the moment of signing. With pressure from below, via the Sam Bradford contract and Kirk Cousins’ $19.95 million franchise tender, it could be time for Flacco or someone else to push the high-water mark even higher.
