The Steelers need to do some work on their defense, but their first moves of the offseason are about hanging onto their own guys.
Agent Jerrold Colton just tweeted out word that cornerback William Gay had re-signed with the Steelers, though he didn’t mention any terms.
(If you’re signing the day before free agency, that either means you really wanted to stay or those terms aren’t very big.)
The 31-year-old Gay started all 16 games last season and held up well, though in a perfect world the Steelers would move him into a smaller role. But the fact they held onto also shows he’s a reliable commodity, and at a time when they need numbers in the secondary, it speaks to his contributions that they want to hang onto him.
The Steelers have also re-signed safety Robert Golden, their special teams captain.
