Bears signing Denver linebacker Danny Trevathan

AP

The defections in Denver continue.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Broncos linebacker Danny Trevathan is leaving for Chicago.

The soon-to-be-26-year-old linebacker is a good fit for the Bears, and well familiar to coach John Fox who had him with the Broncos. The link has been there for days, but now the deal is done.

Along with defensive end Malik Jackson and quarterback Brock Osweiler, it’s a big day of departures for the defending champions, who are learning the cost of success.

  1. Those three guys better start getting used to the idea of losing…a LOT!

  2. Keep telling us it’s not a big deal you don’t have a QB Denver fans.

You’re crazy if you think that D will play the same way again next season

Look back at how many ” great Ds” only won 1 SB.

    85 bears
    01 Ravens
    02 Bucs
    13 Seahawks

  3. He’s fast as heck, but with the Bears (lack of) quality DL, I fully expect him to get swallowed up when he has to take on blockers on run D.

That’s the problem with the “new breed” ILB/TE/RB. Yes, you need speed to win, but football is a game played by huge and strong individuals. You have to be able to run the ball and stop the run to beat good teams.

And this is coming from a Packer fan who watched exactly that keep us out of the super bowl from 2011-2015.

  4. YES! Now draft Reggie Ragland, sign a stud DE and Vic Fangio can start re-creating the Niners D he had with Bowman, Willis and Justin Smith.

Well they’re returning 9 of 11 starters on defense presumably at the very least 8 of 11. So it’s no unthinkable to say they could be a top 3 D again.

It’s a big deal, but what choice did they have? Pay Osweiler like he’s a top 10 QB? No thanks

Wow, everyone saying Denver is done. Just like everyone picked against Denver in every single playoff game.
And yet, here they sit; Super Bowls Champions.

    Denver will be just fine.

  8. Decent player and a good signing by the Bears, but he is one supremely strange-looking human being.

  9. With the cap space they had, he was the one guy they had to get. Especially since the draft is weak at ILB. I’m sure Pace just tried not to look desperate. If they can sign Hicks and a guard, they can be a little more ‘best player available’ with the 11 pick.

It wasn’t a big deal when they didn’t get much out of the position last year. The losses on D will hurt them more than anything on the offensive side of the ball.

  11. Wade Phillips is still the D coordinator so yeah, I’m not worried. Hope Trevathans knee holds up.
