He came within a few hours of hitting the open market. Now, tight end Antonio Gates will never leave the Chargers.
At least that’s how the Chargers explain it.
The team has announced that Gates has signed a new two-year deal with the team. The headline to the press release says that Gates is “set to finish career” with the Chargers.
Gates will continue to work with Philip Rivers; they’ve connected on 77 touchdown passes, an NFL record for a quarterback and tight end. Gates also is high on various all-time receiving lists, with credentials that could make him destined for Canton.
