The Chiefs have had a busy day already, but they’re not finished.

According to Terez Paylor of the Kansas City Star, the Chiefs are finalizing a deal with linebacker Derrick Johnson which will pay him $21 million for three years.

Keeping him would be a big boost for a defense that had plenty of free agents.

They used the franchise tag to keep safety Eric Berry, and signed veteran outside linebacker Tamba Hali to a three-year deal. Of course, they still have others out on the market, namely cornerback Sean Smith.

But keeping a consistent player like Johnson in the middle of their defense would be a huge step (along with landing free agent tackle Mitchell Schwartz), and a bit of good news after losing a pair of draft picks and being fined heavily by the league for tampering.
