The Jets have released tight end Jeff Cumberland.
Releasing Cumberland saves the Jets $1.9 million in cap space, and the Jets need to create as much space as possible with the free agent market opening Wednesday afternoon.
Cumberland posted a thank-you note to the Jets and their fans on his Twitter account. Cumberland had been with the Jets since 2010 and played in 31 games over the last two seasons. He started six games last season.
For his career, Cumberland has 86 catches for 1,119 yards and 10 touchdowns.
